A device made from a plastic bottle helped remove cockroaches from the kitchen

A few months ago, a large number of cockroaches appeared in my house. It was difficult to get rid of them, because these insects reproduce very quickly. I didn't want to use toxic insecticides, and folk remedies didn't help. One day I learned about a trap with bread and beer, which can be made from an ordinary bottle. I tried this method and it was more effective than commercial baits. Soon the unpleasant insects became much smaller, and then they disappeared completely. In this article I will share this method of fighting parasites.

How to make a trap

You can make a bait trap in just 10 minutes. Follow the step by step instructions:

I remember how on a memorable evening: let’s remember “The Blue Handkerchief” by Klavdia Shulzhenko (video)

  1. Cut off the top of the bottle where it starts to curve.
  2. Soak a piece of bread in beer for some time. Drop the bait into the bottom of the bottle.
  3. Coat the inside of the container with a small amount of Vaseline or cooking spray. Turn the top upside down and insert it into the bottom like a funnel. Be sure to secure the edges with tape so that the top part does not fall through and the cockroaches do not run away.
  4. Secure wooden knitting needles or sticks with tape or tape on both sides of the bottle. This will make it easier for insects to enter the trap.
  5. Make several traps. Place them in places where cockroaches gather.

Masks – Fly and mosquito

Let's start with the frame. First, cut out an even strip 3 centimeters wide. Narrower ones will not be strong, wider ones look bulky. Length - 85 cm (this is if the masks are intended for adults or teenagers). Ideally, masks should be made exactly according to the measurements of the specific performer of the role. But in life, a good isolon mask serves faithfully for years, and the actors change. Therefore, let's take average sizes.

Using a hot-melt gun, glue the frame together in the following order. We make a cut at the back of the head, which will make it possible to slightly change the size.

Details of the clattering fly mask

Cut out the fly's face according to the pattern. The color is gray or pink (depending on whether you prefer the resemblance to insects or like more humanized characters). I myself adhered to the stylized appearance of insects. Since Chukovsky wrote about insects, we will play with their features. The eyes are made of green foil, it would be better if it is a green holographic self-adhesive film. If you really want to, you can decorate your eyes with long eyelashes and glue the lips with a bow under your long nose. The six legs can be made simply black, or you can wear gloves and shoes. To make it more elegant, the frame of the cap can also be decorated with green or blue foil. We will make the wings from transparent plastic film. I took a transparent cover for a school textbook - they are sold in office supply stores (I don’t recommend using hard plastic, for example, from soda cans - the edges are sharp, and we don’t want anyone to cut themselves in the commotion of the show). We will lay out the veins on the wings with narrow strips of colored self-adhesive film. You can draw with a permanent marker, but... it won’t look very elegant. That’s all – enough for a convincing image of a fly. If your soul really wants a beauty and a coquette, there is an option to wear a tiny hat with a veil, but I didn’t do it myself - in my opinion it was too much.

How it works

This method is not based on the action of poisons. Cockroaches come running to the bait, crawl into the jar and stay there. They can no longer crawl back out. Most often, insects fall into traps at night when they go out in search of food.

Check the traps every morning. If necessary, replace the bait, as the bread quickly becomes moldy.

Repeat this process for several days. You will see how over time the cockroach population will decrease significantly and then disappear altogether.

Spider Mask

The portrayal of this character can be approached in two ways. Or interpret him as a gloomy villain, then he will be all black and like a tarantula spider. Muscular hairy legs, a villainous muzzle: frowning eyebrows, bloody fangs... The frame of the spider was made of dark blue isolon. Long, multi-colored jointed legs in different-sized shoes, a blue face with eyes narrowed to the nose and a grinning mouth - and that’s enough - let’s refrain from excessive brutality, after all, this is an old spider.

Old Spider Mask

We will make the remaining insects based on a standard frame-cap. Ant and ant: black – shiny. (I describe the ant mask for the entire face here: https://nonsenspictures.ru/maska-muravya/)

Ant Mask

Let's make the butterfly brighter and don't skimp on patterns.

Characters such as cockroaches can only be designated by red color and mustaches - wings and paws will probably be superfluous. For the bugs, I can suggest a pattern for the wings; here it is important to make the right darts and, of course, decorate them with beautiful patterns.

What to do if pests don't go away

Freezing the room
A less popular method is repellers. Electric repellers are used mainly against mosquitoes, but they do not always work against cockroaches. Although a good, expensive device will almost certainly remove parasites if used correctly.

Another method is freezing. But it only works in winter. And then, only when it is possible to turn off the heating. Cockroaches flee or die from the cold. If it is cold enough, open all doors and windows and leave the apartment for at least half an hour. It is recommended to repeat the procedure several times every 5 days.

Note! Another effective way, but also costly, is to call professionals from the sanitary and epidemiological station. They will certainly finally remove the annoying parasites if the previous methods did not work.

Boric acid trap

Boric acid powder is used in its pure form to fight cockroaches - sprinkle on paths near sinks, along baseboards, around the trash can, behind furniture. To speed up the process of parasite poisoning, traps are made with boric acid. The poison begins to act after ingestion, which means you need to force the insects to eat it. Boric acid itself is odorless.

especially the taste. Cockroaches will not attack it, but as part of a fragrant treat, it’s a different matter.

  • Boil a chicken egg. Use the yolk. Boric acid is mixed into it and a little water is added. They make balls.
  • Boil potatoes in their jackets. Poison, sour cream, and egg are added to it. Form small balls.
  • Boric acid is added to the minced meat and balls are made.
  • The finished treat is simply laid out along the paths where cockroaches run or special houses are made. As practice shows, pests love to climb all sorts of boxes. You can use the top of a matchbox. A small ball of poison is placed inside and placed in the required place. Another option that combines a trap and bait is adhesive tape. Double-sided tape is placed along the baseboards. Place bait on it. One part of the insects will stick, the other will be poisoned.

A little imagination and the number of parasites will decrease significantly!

    Step by step lessons

Bowl with an elephant using papier-mâché technique

You will need newspaper or napkins, glue, flour, a pinch of salt, water, bowl (base), mixer, jute, sandpaper, varnish.

    Step 1

Prepare your work area - cover it with newspapers or film. Papier-mâché is a very dirty job.

    Step 2

Cut the newspaper into strips. Their length can be different, their width can be several centimeters.

    Step 3

Wrap the bowl as tightly as possible with cling film and secure with tape on the inside.

    Step 4

Prepare the glue. Using a mixer, mix 1 cup of flour with 2 cups of water, add a little salt - it has an antifungal effect.

    Step 5

Take one strip of newspaper at a time, dip them into the glue, and use your fingers to remove the excess. Place the paper pieces onto the bowl and smooth them out thoroughly. Start with a new layer only after you have completely filled the previous one. The more layers you glue, the stronger the bowl will be. Let the product dry.

    Step 6

Cut the tape and cling film from inside the bowl and carefully remove the bowl from the pan. If necessary, trim the edge of the bowl and sand it.

    Step 7

Paint the bowl inside and out in the color you like.

    Step 8

Print or draw an elephant and trace some outlines around the bowl using homemade carbon paper. Shade the back side of the paper with a pencil with a pencil, attach it to the bowl with the shading inward and trace the outline of the elephant.

    Step 9

Paint the elephants white and let them dry.

    Step 10

Trace the outlines of the elephants with a black marker and coat the bowl with varnish.

    Step 11

Using a glue gun, secure several turns of jute cord along the top contour of the bowl.

    Video master class

Assembling origami insects may seem like a daunting task for beginners. Therefore, we advise you to enter the query “origami insects video” on the largest video hosting site on the Internet, YouTube. There you will find many different videos about origami insects, which clearly show the steps of assembling insects. We hope that after watching the assembly master class video, you will have no more questions about how to make an origami insect.

This origami master class will show you what insects you can also collect from paper:

Insects made from paper accordions step by step

Cut two strips of black paper 2 cm wide. The length can correspond to the wide side of the paper. If your paper is short, you can cut out 4 strips and glue them in two, increasing their length.

Lubricate the tip of one strip with glue and glue the tip of the other to it at a right angle.

Then stack them, alternating, one on top of the other until you reach the end.

The last fold needs to be glued. If there is excess paper, cut it off. You will get a paper accordion like this.

Give the insect a face. Glue on eyes, a smile cut out of red paper, and a thin mustache. The antennae can be bent forward, backward and even to the sides.

Glue the resulting head to the accordion.

Cut out two yellow stripes and round one side. These will be the wings.

Glue the wings to the back of the head and press them to the back.

These are the cute and funny insects we made from paper accordions. I saw them in some scanned magazine and immediately decided that they were winged ants and that I just had to make them. But my household, having seen the insects, recognized them as anything but ants. I was a little sad because I already saw a mention of ants in the title of this article. But I had to call it simply insects. Imagine my surprise when I found out who these characters actually were as conceived by the author of the idea. I never would have guessed it. But I still don’t agree with the author, so the name of this craft will remain the same. What kind of insects do you think these are?

Which traps are the most effective: store-bought or home-made?

On store shelves you can find various remedies for cockroaches: chemicals, ultrasonic repellers, electronic and glue traps.

The principle of operation of adhesive devices is based on catching insects using sticky surfaces. They securely fix the legs of cockroaches and do not allow them to get out. Typically, purchased glue traps are a box equipped with several holes for insects to enter. Bait is placed inside. Sensing the smell of food, cockroaches come in and stick to the base.

How a store-bought glue trap works - video

Homemade analogues are similar in design, so their effectiveness remains at the same level.

Purchased poison traps are made in the shape of a house, inside which poisoned bait is placed. Having tasted such a treat, the insect does not die instantly, but returns to its relatives, becoming a source of infection. Due to the rapid spread of the poison, more cockroaches die than when using adhesive structures.

Traps containing toxic substances are more effective than their adhesive counterparts

Electric traps are an even more reliable means. They are made in the form of a box that attracts insects with the appetizing aromas of the bait. The cockroaches inside are killed by an electrical charge.

Convenient and practical device that requires regular cleaning

The efficiency of such devices is quite high. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make an electric trap at home, but home-made devices can compete with them.

Compared to store-bought counterparts, homemade devices have certain advantages.

    1. Such products can be made from scrap materials.
    2. The simplicity of the design allows it to be done in the shortest possible period of time without special skills.
    3. A device you make yourself differs from purchased products in that it is cheaper.
    4. Homemade traps are harmless to adults, children and pets.

Ultrasonic devices designed to repel cockroaches cannot be called traps. It has been proven that the effectiveness of such devices is very low, so it is not recommended to use them to combat insects.

    Fighting methods

    Homemade trap Cockroaches
are fought with a variety of means, here are the main ones:

    • Chemical and folk remedies.
    • Freezing.
    • Electric repellers.
    • Traps.
    • Call the SES service.

An important condition is that the apartment is clean and there is no open food. It is its smell that mainly attracts these parasites. It is also recommended to carry out a thorough spring cleaning and empty the trash bin in a timely manner.

Important! In addition to dirt and the smell of food, cockroaches are attracted to moisture. Puddles left on the floor or table, a leaking faucet - parasites can come running to all this.

If any of this attracts pests, they will start looking for ways into the apartment. They can crawl through cracks in the floor, walls, ceiling and windows, then hide in secluded places: behind cabinets, upholstered furniture, under the sink, under peeling wallpaper. After cleaning the room and making the necessary preparations, you can begin processing.

    Symbolism

Insects have many ancient symbolic meanings. In myths, different types of insects refer to different parts of outer space, with its zones and images. Some insects represent the upper zone, the sky, and are associated with the upper part of the World Tree, with its branches and leaves. Others, with the middle part, the tree trunk and, accordingly, with the average earthly world. Associated with the lower world and the lower part and roots of the tree is another group of insects, often pests associated with evil deities, spirits, and demons.

Origami fly is a simple and interesting paper craft for children aged five years and older. Despite all the structural simplicity, you can get a rather naturalistic insect, especially if you additionally paint and make legs for the fly. If you paint the fly with black and yellow stripes, then you will get a working bee or an angry bumblebee. Then you can make a small panel “Bees in the meadow”. Glue the flowers onto the cardboard base, and then the bee flies.

In its classic form, the origami “Fly” model is also very cute, but, however, then the choice of paper becomes very important. Make a lot of colorful, bright flies with your children. If you are working with a group of children, then such a craft can be designed as a garland by attaching flies to a thread.

Stages of making an origami craft “Fly”

Fold the square diagonally. Get the basic shape of a triangle.

    Let's lift two corners up.

Fold the corners of the top layer of paper down.

Bend the top triangle down. We bend only one, the top layer of paper.

Fold back the second layer of paper so that the lower triangle protrudes from under the upper one.

Fold the top right and left sides back. The origami fly is ready!

    Jar trap

To make a trap you need:

    1. Take a glass jar with a volume of about 1 liter, and wrap the outside of it with paper, cloth or newspaper so that it is convenient for cockroaches to climb up the walls to the very top.
    2. Place a fragrant delicacy at the bottom of the jar - a piece of meat, cheese, boiled egg or bread; you can pour kefir or beer on top of it all; insects love the smell of these drinks.
    3. Lubricate the inner edges of the jar with Vaseline or oil (preferably butter, it has a pleasant smell for insects and does not dry out for a long time). This is done so that cockroaches cannot get out of the jar along the walls.

The contents of the trap need to be changed every 3-4 days; this interval is just enough so that the oil on the edges of the trap does not have time to dry out, and the bait does not have time to deteriorate.

    Plastic bottle trap

Another folk method of fighting, which works like a trap from a jar. It is made like this:

    • take a one and a half liter bottle (a bottle of a different capacity will do);
    • cut off 1/3 of the neck;
    • Fill half of the bottle with water and throw in food bait to attract insects: sausage, onions, etc. It is advisable for the food to float on the surface to enhance the smell;
    • We turn the cut neck over and insert it into the larger part of the bottle, securing it with tape. Lubricate the surface with vegetable oil so that it is slippery;
    • We put the bottle in places where cockroaches are: near the trash can in the kitchen, etc. The surface of the bottle should be wrapped in paper or a pencil attached to the side so that insects can climb up it.
    • insects will follow the smell and once they fall into the bottle they will no longer be able to get out.

Features of using traps at home

Using traps at home In order for a cockroach trap to be most effective, it is necessary to eliminate all sources where individuals could profit. The only treat that should be available to them is the bait placed in the trap. It is desirable that it has a distinct smell: unfiltered beer, fermented kefir, cocoa, liver.
