How to make a mirror disco ball with your own hands

Final stage

  1. We make fasteners with which the ball will be attached to the desired surface. For this purpose, you need to wrap the ball in several places with a nylon rope (imagine the ball as a globe and wrap it with rope along the meridians and the equator). All threads must be coated with glue, and at the top of the head, the threads must be collected into one bundle, which will become the fastener. Options with fastening according to the principle of Christmas tree decorations, using wire, are also possible.
  2. We hang the ball on the mount (so that it is convenient for you to work with it).
  3. We glue the ball with mirror squares using glue (I suggest glue for ceiling tiles) - we start from the “top” of the ball. Paste in horizontal rows. Try to place the mirror pieces as close to each other as possible - the amount of light reflected from the ball and the appearance of the decoration will depend on this.

We hang the ball in the place you need, spin it, shine the light on it and turn on the hits of the 80s! The disco begins!

We arrange a disco at home: do-it-yourself disco ball

One scratch and the disc can be thrown into the trash. Or attach it as a stand for a cup of tea (can be glued to cardboard). Flash drives and file sharing services have practically replaced even usable disks. It seems like rubbish, but I don’t dare throw it away. Let's try to turn garbage into a very beautiful and useful thing for home celebrations, discos, and parties. We will make a disco ball from disks with our own hands, especially since the work is pure pleasure, requiring neither experience nor large expenses.

Introduction

The basics of pencil drawing and shading rules are one of the most important knowledge and skills you should acquire if you want to learn how to draw.

Everything that is most complex always consists of the simplest forms. A circle, square, rectangle - these are the basics of what can later become a bird, fish, flower or even a ship in a drawing.

Having learned to correctly draw simple geometric shapes, you can begin to draw complex drawings, but with knowledge of the matter and correctly placing them on the sheet, according to all proportions and symmetry.

Why do we draw a ball with a simple pencil? This is necessary in order to learn how to draw other objects based on a ball. A still life with apples or a bouquet of flowers with large buds is a prime example of when you may need to draw a three-dimensional ball.

Remember that in addition to the form itself, it is also very important to be able to do the correct shading with a pencil. After all, it is shading that helps to convey the volume of our ball, to convey the balance between light and dark areas.

Now that we have found out that it is very important to be able to draw geometric shapes correctly, let’s move on to the preparatory part of our master class - analysis of materials.

Preparing the base

In fact, all preparation consists of cutting mirrors out of disks. To do this, the disk is marked into squares with sides of 1 cm; this should be done with a felt-tip pen. To cut it into squares, the disc is immersed in hot water for 3-10 seconds, so it will not crack. The time will depend on the temperature of the water used.

If you took 30 discs for work, this means that the diameter of your disco ball will also be 30 cm, this is the size the balloon is inflated to, but it must be round.

The base of the disco ball is made using papier-mâché technology, known to everyone since school days. To do this, pieces of paper, cut or torn in any shape, are glued onto the ball using PVA glue. After applying the first layer, it should dry well, then the second layer, etc. There should be a minimum of 5 layers. After you have applied the last layer of paper, do not rush to deflate the balloon; it is better to wait until a ringing sound is heard when you tap on your base.

Scarecrow for birds

All gardeners and summer residents know how annoying birds can be, always trying to ruin the harvest. Previously, to scare them away, a large scarecrow with flying clothes and a bucket or pumpkin instead of a head was installed in the middle of the garden. Agree, such a character can seriously frighten small children or neighbors. We suggest you make a more modern model of a scarecrow that will fascinate with its beauty and scare away birds with its bright reflections. You can determine the shape, height and other parameters based on your own needs. The principle of operation is to tie about a dozen discs onto a base, for example, an old shovel holder or an unusable rake.

  • The base should be a "T" shape.
  • It is advisable to make elements that will sway in the wind and ring against each other. Make two holes in the disks almost at the outer edge opposite each other. Use a drill and a small drill bit or hot nail.
  • Now thread the lace or other tight rope through the holes and secure the discs after a short distance. You can mount 3-5 discs on one strip, depending on the height of the product.
  • And the last step - secure the resulting strips closer to each other and install this miracle on the site.

Technology

First you need to decide on the size of your ball. There are no restrictions here, only the amount of material used and time.

Be sure to prepare the room for working with glass. During work, small mirror shavings will definitely appear - cover the floor with newspapers, cover the interior items with suitable material.

Choose a mirror, preferably a thin one (any mirror will do, but a thin one is easier to cut). Using a glass cutter, the mirror is cut into squares measuring approximately 1 cm by 1 cm.

In which city is the big mirror ball located?

But in Paris they know how to solve this problem. The world's largest mirror ball was installed here.

Making the base (ball)

The ball will be made of papier-mâché.

  1. Preparing the paste. There are many recipes, personally I used the following. Boil 5 parts of water, pour into it ¼ part of flour diluted in one part of cold water, boil for 2 minutes.
  2. Inflate the balloon of the required size (it is important that the balloon itself is round).
  3. Cut paper (preferably newspaper) into strips.
  4. We begin to glue paper soaked in paste onto the dry ball (you don’t need to wet the paper too much, it will take a long time to dry). Make as many layers as possible, let the layers dry, and apply the next ones. The ball should be strong enough to hold the mirror on itself.
  5. After waiting for the paper to dry, pierce the inner ball and remove it.
  6. The base is ready.

Materials and tools Cutting How to cut a ball from polystyrene foam

Master class foam ball.

Having selected several hollow tubes from a durable and inflexible material, you can begin the process of manufacturing the tool we need (tubes from linoleum, silicone). It is important to note that the size of the ball will depend on the diameter of the tube hole. The best option, which will be convenient for everyone, would be ordinary plastic pipes, the width of which allows you to create blanks of different sizes (from 15mm to 200mm).

We cut half of the tube to a length of 1.5-2 times the diameter, then, as shown in the photo, we glue the remaining half of the cut part with sandpaper (zero).

The device is ready, all that remains is to demonstrate its operation.

First, cut out a cylinder-shaped piece from a piece of foam plastic, as shown in the photo.

The next step is to turn the cylinder into a ball, for which you just need to rotate our device.

So, following the diagram, we turn the device and bring the workpiece to perfection.

All that remains is to smooth out all the unevenness and roughness.

The blank is ready, all that remains is to figure out what exactly we will make from it. Small balls will become excellent Christmas tree decorations, large ones - a magnificent crown of trees of happiness, as well as elements of decorative decorations. It all depends on your imagination and mood. Create and have fun with it!

Casket of disks

A shoe box can become a real box for your jewelry.

In order to make such an original decorative element you will need:

  • of course, the box itself (preferably new and not torn) from under the shoes;
  • glue gun;
  • disks;
  • scissors, it is best if you have large ones on hand;
  • stapler for furniture;
  • fabric, suitable in size so that it can be pasted over the box;
  • well, and small accessories, such as beads, beads, stones, rhinestones, etc.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • The first step is to line the box with pre-prepared fabric. The ideal option is velvet, but any that is available will do. The fabric for each side is cut out separately, and then fixed to the inside of the box with a furniture stapler. Be sure to leave an allowance of approximately 3-4 cm.
  • The next step is to cut the disks into various pieces: from small to large. Then glue them to the fabric using a glue gun.
  • The last step will be finishing with decorative elements using beads, sparkles, pebbles, etc. All this is also attached with glue.

Decor of clothes and accessories

This is a very simple idea and the result looks great. It's strange that few people thought of this before. By the way, do you know that world designers decorate not only collars or some small details with discs, but also entire dresses, suits, bags and other things? It's easy to be on trend!

We will need:

  • 2 disks;
  • Super glue;
  • collared blouse.

Be sure to check that your glue is waterproof. Finding one is not at all difficult. Today in the creative departments there are many glue options for working with a variety of materials.

Do you not want to bother with glue, or are you decorating a fairly large space with discs (for example, a bag)?

Well, if you're cutting computer disks into large enough pieces, you can make holes in them using a thin drill or awl. In this case, the parts can be sewn to the collar.

Don't try to cut the CD into even pieces - a scattered mosaic looks very beautiful. Fill all the space with them.

If you are decorating a handbag, choose leather glue. We advise you to stay in a small area rather than filling the space completely. It is in this form that the accessory will look most attractive.

By the way, the discs can also be used to make children's costumes for the holiday. They can also be used to decorate shoes.

How to make a disco ball with your own hands

1. For work you will need the following materials and tools: 30 pieces of DVD discs (preferably double-sided) for a ball with a diameter of 30 cm, a balloon of the selected size, PVA glue, Moment glue, newspapers, hardware (screw with a ring, two nuts and two washers ), brush for applying PVA glue, scissors, ruler, awl, felt-tip pen.

2. Mirrors for the ball will be cut from DVD discs. To do this, mark the disk into squares with a side of 10 mm. We mark along the ruler with a felt-tip pen, then mark the disk along the marked lines with an awl. Using scissors, cut the disk into squares. The discs will be cut better with scissors and will not crack if you hold the discs in hot water for a few seconds (determined experimentally).

3. The size of the ball depends on desire and capabilities. Take a balloon (necessarily round) and inflate it to a diameter of 30 cm.

4. The base of the ball is made using papier-mâché technology; a lampshade for a winter garden has already been made on the site. Cut small pieces of newsprint into arbitrary shapes. We glue pieces of newspaper with our own hands using PVA glue to the ball and to adjacent pieces of paper. Dry the first layer. And so we glue five layers of paper.

Picture frame

Using discs you can make a decorative element such as a photo frame.

To do this you need:

  • rubber glue;
  • disks;
  • cardboard, always thick;
  • large and strong scissors;
  • you will also need gouache;
  • do not forget to prepare a ruler in advance;
  • Well, in conclusion, an ordinary simple pencil.

Before you start working with discs, you first need to measure the size of the photo for which the frame is intended. Of course, you can do it much simpler - just trace your photo on thick cardboard and start making the outline of the frame.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • First of all, we cut out the base of the frame of the size we need from fairly thick cardboard. Then on both sides using gouache. Be sure to apply several layers.
  • Using large scissors, cut the discs into different pieces. Next, we glue the cut fragments to the future frame, and before that we apply them to the surface and see how it will look. If you wish, you can paint over the cracks with white gouache.
  • Leave the almost finished frame for half an hour until it is completely dry. And the final touch to this CD decor is the stand, which we glue to the back.

Rose for a garden or patio made from CDs

Tools:

  • a couple of discs
  • candle
  • scissors
  • paints of different colors

So let's get started:

  1. It is better to do this stage not indoors, but outdoors and have water nearby if you need to put out the fire.
    To begin, cut the CD along the entire length of the radius and heat this edge of the cut over a candle. 2. The plastic is warmed up and we take pliers and turn the edge a little to the side. We wrap the edge 3. If the disk has cooled down, then it is tedious to heat it again and continue to wrap the edge. 4. Eventually you should end up with a spiral, this is the rosebud. 5. You can also make petals; you can paint the rose in any color.

The easiest way to draw a ball

How to draw a ball: a step-by-step master class for beginning artists. Follow our instructions and you will definitely learn how to draw a ball with a simple pencil.

Stage 1 – make markings with a pencil on a sheet

To later get a drawn 3d ball, take an HB pencil and outline an even square. Next, divide the square horizontally and vertically. Then we divide it diagonally, and the segments - top, bottom, side - must correspond to the diagonal segment so that the sizes are all the same. Then, further, we connect these segments and get an even circle.

Stage 2 – draw an ellipse

Draw an ellipse along the diagonal line. The bottom of the ellipse should be slightly larger than the top. Draw an ellipse and erase the extra lines that we don’t need.

Next we build a falling shadow. From the central line of the ball's axis of symmetry, we draw a line slightly diagonally. We measure the height of our ball and put it down, where our falling shadow will lie. This will be its size, the length of the falling shadow. Next, we simply draw the falling shadow; it does not have to be completely round; it is not necessary to try to draw an ellipse of the falling shadow.

Since our light is scattering, we will not be able to see the exact contour of the falling shadow. At the same stage we outline the plane of the table. The next step will help you see how to shade the ball correctly.

Stage 3 – shading the ball

We completely shade our ball with rounded strokes. Shade the falling shadow with horizontal and diagonal strokes. Under the ball itself we make a tonal accent in order to show the touch of our ball with the table.

When we shade the ball, its own shadow, that is, the lower edge of the ellipse, we shade more strongly and make a slight stretch. The edge of your own shadow should be darker and the reflex a little lighter. We also shade the light part a little with circular semicircular strokes.

Stage 4 – completion of work, development of the shadow

We dial up the tone on the ball even more. We also add a diagonal stroke to the semicircular stroke. With a diagonal stroke we show the transition from the shadow to the halftone. This is necessary so that the transition becomes a little softer and a new type of stroke appears. This way we darken the ball even more. Next, we darken the falling shadow, a stroke in the same direction that we had initially. Add a little background to the light side of the ball. We try not to shade the background too much so that it is lighter than the falling shadow and its own shadow. The falling shadow should be slightly darker than its own shadow on the ball.

Now that you know how to draw a ball, let's talk about shading - how to do it correctly and how it shouldn't be done at all.
