Preliminary processing
Ice cream and sushi sticks must be processed before using for creative purposes. The treatment procedure will help remove dirt and bacteria. The sticks become softer and more elastic. This gives more room for creativity.
There are 2 options on how you can prepare them for work.
- Place the sticks in water for 12 hours. Place the swollen sticks on a dry cloth or paper. Leave until completely dry.
- Place the sticks in boiling water and put on fire. Boil for at least an hour. Take them out with tweezers and place them on cloth or paper. Wait until dry.
Replace skewers
The chopsticks remaining after the delivery of Chinese cuisine will replace store-bought skewers after a little modification - one end is sharpened with a knife.
Shish kebab is a traditional dish for picnics, but sometimes you want to try a flavorful dish at home. The procedure for preparing meat is no different from the street version, except for smaller pieces. Place the skewers with meat either in glass containers, or wrap them in foil or place them on a baking sheet. They also prepare other food for kuaizi: lula kebab, vegetables, seafood.
Popsicle stick bracelet
Older children sometimes wonder how to make a craft from sticks that will be a pleasant surprise and a favorite gift for a friend or girlfriend.
A bracelet is a gift that a person will wear with pleasure, remembering his friend or relative with special warmth.
Tools and materials:
- Ice cream sticks – 10 pcs;
- Wood varnish;
- Picture or paint;
- Stationery knife;
- Satin ribbon or strong thread.
Manufacturing process:
- Soak the sticks for a day. They should become elastic and bend easily.
- Select a container to dry. This could be a wide glass or bottle.
- Place them in a bent state and leave them in the container until completely dry.
- Use a utility knife to make holes on both sides.
- Draw a pattern on the bracelet or glue pictures.
- Cover the bracelet with protective varnish.
- Knit 2 ribbons.
You can tie the bracelet with floss, twine or beautiful threads around the perimeter.
Box for balls

You will need:
- sushi sticks (at least 60 pcs.);
- glue (or glue gun);
- ribbon (for decoration).
First we glue the frame. To do this, we advise you to take paired sticks, not yet used, from which the frame for the bottom and top is formed. The sticks are placed crosswise and glued together. It is better to use a reliable device, such as a glue gun. If you don't have it on hand, it's better to take superglue.
After waiting for the adhesive to harden, we attach one by one the corner vertical load-bearing elements of our structure.
Then we glue the top part of the frame. We have a cube, each side of which you cover in turn with sticks. Take the distance between them such that the smallest ball or spool of thread does not fall out through these holes.
The box body is ready, let it sit properly so that the glue dries. Now let's start decorating our box. First, wrap the corners with tape. Then take a wide braid or multi-colored ribbons and weave them between the sticks, like weaving baskets. You can use colored paper for this, but it wears out quickly.
By the way, such a box is convenient to use when knitting: the ball will not be able to roll out of it, and you will not have to catch it throughout the room.
Bookmark

Take some sticks and paint them different colors. On thick white cardboard with a simple pencil, draw the templates in 2 copies and cut them out with scissors. It could be a sun, a heart, a star, a shoe or some cartoon character. Color them and glue them to the top of the stick on both sides.

Stylish designs are also made from whole disposable sticks. Due to the different thicknesses at the bases of such devices, by fastening them together, lampshades are obtained in the shape of a truncated cone. To do this, stepping back 1-2 cm from the edge on each side, cut grooves through which they wrap the kuaizi with a rope and tighten it for secure fixation. The ends of the rope are secured with knots and the fabric is rolled into a three-dimensional figure. The lampshade is secured to the frame of the old lamp with glue or twine.
Mirror sun
We will need a large number of Chinese chopsticks, a round mirror and a cardboard or wooden rim framing this mirror.
The rim is glued to the mirror. Then the structure is turned over and Chinese chopsticks are attached to the back side. These will be the rays of the sun. It is important to monitor the symmetry of the rays.
It’s better to start with the longest rays, placing them around the perimeter (8 pieces). Then you can glue shorter beams. This mirror looks just great.

Original hair decoration

Stands for knives
The simplest craft you can imagine. The idea behind a homemade knife rack is to put all your sushi chopsticks in a stable container. You need to stuff it as tightly as possible. Additionally, a stack of pieces of wood can be tied with rubber bands for money.
What it looks like in reality:
The knives are inserted into a tight stack, do not scratch anything or fall off. In addition, the stand can always be disassembled and cleaned (replace parts).
Willow made from cotton swabs
Cotton swabs are great for creating voluminous applications. Draw a vase with your child on a piece of cardboard. Draw brown branches above the vase.
Trim the cotton swabs so that only small pieces with cotton remain. Children can glue these “fluffy things” to the sides of the branches. The result will be a willow.
Will become a rug
Cooks use a mat to prepare rolls. Made with your own hands, it will become an original gift.
To work you will need bamboo sticks and a ball of nylon or cotton thread. If only a rope is available, it is dissolved into individual components. Chinese cutlery is placed on the table in one layer close to each other, and the thread is folded in half. The first stick is inserted into the loop and the ends are overlapped. Next, insert the second one and so on, each time crossing and pulling the thread tightly so that the kuaizi are fixed to each other. Having reached the last one, the bamboo sticks are leveled, the thread is moved to the edge parallel to the ends of the poles. The rope is then tied in a knot and cut. Such connecting paths are made throughout the rug at intervals of 2-3 cm from each other. The last thread is placed at the same distance from the second edge as the first. To prevent the rope from flying off the smooth kuaizi, circular notches are cut on the sides.
Christmas tree toy
To make it you will need:
- 3 ice cream sticks;
- Green paint;
- Yellow cardboard;
- Brown corrugated paper;
- Buttons of different colors and sizes;
- Thread or ribbon.
Fold the sticks into a triangle and glue them together. Color the triangle green. At the back (in the center of the bottom side of the triangle) glue a small rectangle of brown corrugated paper - this is the trunk of our Christmas tree.
Attach a star cut out of cardboard to the top, and decorate each side with fancy buttons. Glue a ribbon behind the star to form a loop. The Christmas tree toy is ready.
Flower vase
Japanese chopsticks are an excellent material for interior decoration. The flower vase can be anything. Smooth, embossed, colored, plain.
The easiest way to make it: take a jar (one with smooth edges works well) and cover it on the outside. Decorate the outside with a simple but elegant bow or painting, trying to respect the traditions of the eastern country. In the same way, you can decorate a tabletop device or a pencil holder.

Traditionally, during the winter holidays everyone tries to decorate their homes and workplaces with stars or snowflakes.
Paper garlands are gradually becoming obsolete. I want something unusual, preferably reusable. An excellent solution would be themed crafts made from wooden sticks. The most convenient way would be if you first draw a diagram of the future craft, and then glue all the pegs together in the right way. When it comes to decoration, give free rein to your imagination:

Imagine that in your hands are not ordinary wooden sticks, but blanks for dolls with which you can play theater and other games. Paint the sticks as you wish: perhaps they will be people, animals or characters from your favorite cartoon. You can play with this set with friends and take it outside.
Preparatory work
Sometimes the base needs to be prepared in advance. The parts are soaked in cold water for more than 12 hours. Another option is possible: boiling for half an hour. After the material is saturated with moisture, it is dried - this will take more than three hours.
