Children's costumes made from waste material, made by hand

It’s not very often that you see girls in a chicken costume at a New Year’s party. So be original, sew just such a fancy dress costume for your daughter to the delight of your little minx.

Believe me, everyone around you will be simply delighted when your brilliant, bright, multi-colored “Chicken” flutters into the festive hall. In addition, designing a costume will not be difficult for you, the main thing is to want and start, and then it’s a matter of technique. You will certainly succeed, as we will help you cope with the task.

Features and Benefits

Making an outfit for a fairy-tale character, superhero or transforming robot from available materials is actually simple. It is enough to use your imagination and not be limited to one type of material. Original things come from:

  • paper (old newspapers, candy wrappers, cardboard boxes);
  • plastic (bottles, disposable tableware);
  • polyethylene (garbage bags, oilcloth, packaging bags);
  • natural materials (dry leaves, cones, dried flowers).

The main advantages of creating an outfit are the availability of materials and ease of execution. Most often, the costume is assembled literally from garbage that can be found in every home. Disadvantages include the fragility of the products and the lack of comfort in them. It is worth understanding that these are things not for everyday use, but for performances or games.

You look so happy, are you in love? - Yes, in a dress!

Dresses made from corrugated paper look incredibly beautiful. Delicate, thin, colorful paper requires a special approach. The doll for whom we are sewing a new outfit needs to be fitted with a frame. The frame can be made of polystyrene foam, but it is better to use a more modern material - penoplex, which can be easily cut with a stationery knife.

We put a skirt made of corrugated paper on the frame, and decorate the bottom of the skirt with flowers. The result is a very elegant and delicate product.

You can cut out doll dresses using fabric patterns, but you need to sew the parts of the pattern together with glue. Having mastered the technique of making multilayer skirts, pleated skirts, and pleated collars, you can make entire collections, study national costumes, and organize balls for your elegant kolkas.

Manufacturing process

When starting work, it would be useful to talk with your child about who he wants to be, what materials he would like to use most. And based on his preferences, prepare the necessary funds for making an unusual costume.

From cardboard boxes

Boxes are an ideal material for creating a costume for a boy. For example, it’s very easy to make an image from the future – a “steel” robot.

To create you need:

  • two boxes (rectangular for the body, square for the head);
  • foil;
  • scotch;
  • scissors;
  • colored paper;
  • wire;
  • hot glue;
  • gouache.

The work process will take a little time, the main thing is to do everything step by step.

  1. Head. The excess parts are cut off from the box to create a cube with three sides. Make a cutout for the face on one of them. Cover the top of the box with foil. If desired, make the decor in the form of a small antenna (use wire, colored paper and tape for fastening).
  2. Torso. Trim the excess pieces so that the box does not have a bottom base. Cut a recess on the top for the head, and on the sides for the arms. Cover the box with foil, use colored paper and gouache to work out the decor (buttons, mini-screen, energy stripes).
  3. Legs, arms. It is enough to put a regular black or gray suit on your child and attach several foil elements with double-sided tape.

In addition to the robot, the following costumes for children can be made from the boxes: knight, dinosaur, house, Lego piece, SpongeBob and others.

From plastic bottles

This material allows you to make incredible DIY dresses for girls. Images of flower fairies, mermaids, and princesses will appeal to little fashionistas.

To make a mermaid dress you need to prepare:

  • bottles of blue, white, blue colors (at least 20 pcs.);
  • scissors;
  • nail polish (pearl pink);
  • glue Moment.

Work process.

  1. Cut oval scales from bottles (4-5 cm for the bodice and 6-7 cm for the skirt and train).
  2. Cover the elements with nail polish to get a color shimmer effect.
  3. Glue the scales to the base (you can take an old dress). Cover the bodice with small details, the skirt and train with larger elements. Arrange them randomly, imitating fish scales.
  4. Make a wreath. Cut 3 flowers from the green and blue bottles. Put the blue one into the green one and glue it. Wrap a plastic bag around the rim, straighten the free end, and fold it into a flower shape. Glue 3 bottle flowers to it.

When cutting out costume parts, you can easily get hurt on the edges of the bottle. This stage of work should be entrusted to an adult.

You can also make a costume from plastic bottles for boys (alien, transformer, superhero).

From disposable tableware

This material allows you to create simple but effective children's costumes. To make a ball gown for a girl, you need the following materials:

  • plastic cups (depending on the child’s height, on average 200 pieces);
  • stapler;
  • scissors;
  • zipper;
  • thread, needle.

Work process:

  1. Bodice. Cut the glasses in half and remove the bottom. Place the two parts one inside the other (the top one is 2 cm higher than the bottom one), and fasten it with a stapler. Lay out the resulting fastened parts in 2 rows from bottom to top to the height of the bodice. Make the sides and back from smooth parts of glasses.
  2. Skirt. The glasses are collected in tiers and fixed with a stapler. The first tier is the widest. Closer to the waist, the skirt should taper due to the reduction in the number of glasses.
  3. Assembly. Sew the skirt to the bodice using threads. To hide the paper clips on the skirt, you can insert a whole one into each cup and secure it with glue.

If you use glasses of different colors, you can lay out a mosaic (geometric patterns, flowers, rainbows).

From old newspapers

A little imagination and free time will allow you to make a costume even from waste, for example, from unnecessary newspapers. It's easy to make a ballet tutu out of them.

Tools:

  • newspapers;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • stapler;
  • thread, needle.

Description of work:

  1. Top. Wrap the newspaper around the fabric base, pin it together, and sew it on. Any unnecessary dress with straps can be used as a basis. Fold the newspaper like an accordion, straighten it to form a fan, attach it to the bodice, and secure it with threads as decoration.
  2. Skirt. Roll the newspaper sheet into a cone shape and fasten it with a stapler at the narrow part. The resulting parts need to be laid out in layers, forming a ballerina’s tutu. Attach the skirt to the base using glue and a stapler. If necessary, the edges of the cones can be made more textured - randomly cut out zigzags or pre-fold the newspaper like an accordion.

Making clothes from waste material is a simple and fun process. There are many variations of designing a dress for a girl from newspapers or magazines.

Required materials and tools

Preparing parts for the skirt

The prepared triangles must be carefully connected to each other

Cut out the bodice blank from biscuits

A piece of an old T-shirt is attached to the back of the newspaper blank.

From garbage bags

A DIY costume made from garbage bags is the easiest to make. The child will be able to cope with the work even without the help of an adult. To create a Batman superhero costume you need:

  • black thick garbage bags;
  • scotch;
  • scissors.

Description of work.

  1. Cloak. Cut two large bags to create a rectangle. Glue the two resulting parts in the middle with tape (you get a wide, even canvas). Cut semicircles along the edge of the cloak to give the rectangle the shape of a bat wing. Cut 4 ribbons 6-8 cm wide from the bag. Glue two of them with tape in the form of loops so that the raincoat can be worn over the shoulders. The two remaining ribbons are attached to the edge of the cloak, this will allow you to tie it to the child’s wrist.
  2. Decor. The hero's mask is cut from the same material. Then you should print or draw two yellow superhero emblems, one taped to the back of the cape, the other to the chest.

Any boy will be happy with such a heroic costume made from bags.

Materials

The main blank is made from a large plastic bag. Blanks for daisies

You need to cut out petals from the strips

From dry leaves

To create a costume from unnecessary waste material in the fall, leaves, branches, and cones are used. You can make a beautiful dress for a girl in autumn style in a few hours.

Materials:

  • maple leaves of different colors and sizes;
  • paraffin;
  • thread, needle.

Description of work:

  1. Treat the collected leaves with paraffin so that they do not dry out (dip each leaf into boiling paraffin and place it on newspaper until completely dry).
  2. Take an old dress for the base, preferably with flounces on the skirt. Sew the leaves to the base so that it does not show through.
  3. You can weave a wreath from the remaining leaves and add bright rowan branches to it.

A children's autumn suit looks very impressive, and the leaves treated with paraffin do not wither or dry out for a long time.

A new dress is never too much

Looking at a photo of a paper dress, any woman will take her breath away with delight and will have a desire to try on such an unusual piece of clothing. A woman in a paper dress looks like a fairy from a fairy tale, but whether she is a good or an evil fairy depends on the color of the paper and the shape that the designer gives to her creation.

Thus, designer from Bosnia and Herzegovina Amila Hrustić created a collection of paper dresses based on geometric bodies: cubes, tetrahedrons, octahedrons, dodecahedrons and 20-hedrons. The models in this collection look prickly and cruel, and the black and white color of the material evokes strong emotional tension.

The White Cashmere Collection, although made of snow-white and pink toilet paper, evokes feelings of softness and weightlessness, harmony and beauty.

In a beautiful dress you feel a power comparable to magic and you know that everything is possible.

Beautiful women's dresses made of paper first appeared in the ancient city of Japan, Kamakura; mentions of them date back to the twelfth century. The technology for making the first dresses is reminiscent of cutting out our New Year's snowflakes. Only a very rich Japanese okusan could afford such a dress.

World-famous designers have not ignored paper material. This is how Julian Tomchin created disposable paper outfits that cost less than two dollars. Within six months, they sold more than half a million paper items. Christian Dior created a paper sweater, John Galliano made an evening dress from newspapers. The Beatles also wore paper clothes.

We admire the work of Russian designer Asya Kozina, who creates historical dresses using whatman paper, glue and scissors. The collection of dresses is complemented by wigs, umbrellas, shoes and handbags, also made of paper.

Recommendations

Costumes made from scrap materials for girls and boys do not require large financial costs and effort to make. However, you must remember the safety rules:

  1. It is worth making sure that the child is not allergic to the materials of the future suit.
  2. Do not use sharp or dangerous objects that can dig into the skin, scratch or cause discomfort. Avoid small parts that a child could accidentally swallow.
  3. Before putting on the costume, you need to make sure that the glue is completely dry and its smell has completely disappeared.

Do not trust needles, scissors, stationery knives and hot glue to children. Even if a child knows how to handle them, an adult should always be nearby and supervise the work process.

By following these simple rules, a joint activity with your son or daughter will bring a lot of positivity, and a costume made from waste material will teach the child to appreciate nature, fantasize and create.

A dress is never just a dress, a dress is always about desires

If you have a desire to make an unusual dress, then first learn how to make small origami dresses, which are ideal for decorating greeting cards for a birthday or for March 8th, such a dress will decorate the wardrobe of your favorite doll, you can make garlands from it, or decorate a gift box , party table.

The material for such a product should be thin paper, then it will not look massive.

Before you start, you need the following things in your arsenal:

  • colored double-sided paper, preferably with a print;
  • sharp scissors;
  • ruler no more than 30 cm long;
  • a simple pencil;
  • rhinestones, beads, seed beads, lace for decoration (depending on your imagination);
  • glue, tape, stationery stapler;
  • patience and good mood.

A breeze blew from the sea, cheerful and self-satisfied, like a woman who has bought herself a new dress.

Japanese kimono today

Naturally, Japanese traditional attire will only be appreciated in its homeland. But lovers of this culture quite often use this item of clothing for spending time at home. That is why the version of the classic Japanese kimono has changed somewhat. Increasingly, kimono robes with one-piece sleeves, a regular thin belt and internal fixation are found on the market. Of course, we can say that such an outfit has nothing in common with the national clothing of the Japanese, but for the home, you cannot find a more convenient option. Therefore, when sewing, you can deviate a little from the written instructions and simplify the model.

Cloud

The cloud suit is made of padding polyester. Take a white cloth or an old pillowcase.

Cut a hole in it for the head and sew in lots and lots of white synthetic fluff. White tights will complete the look.

Slice processing options

What is the best way to process products? Are there any special secrets and will any special skills and knowledge be required? Perhaps even a beginner can easily cope with this task. You can sew a Japanese kimono with your own hands either with a straight-stitch sewing machine or using overlock stitches. However, the simplest option is to process the cuts with a two-turn turn and sew the parts together with a linen seam. This assembly method saves processing time, thread consumption and makes the seams more durable. And it is also good because it is suitable for both silk and cotton fabrics, as well as chiffon and satin.

If you have an overlocker on hand, it can also be used to process cuts. With its help, you can sew and overcast all the parts in one step, without laying additional lines.

Suit for an event or vice versa

Of course, homemade outfits can be completely different. For example, modest and elegant dresses made from chiffon scarves or old jeans can easily update your wardrobe for free. Considering modern prices, this is a great opportunity to always stay on top of fashion.

It's easy to use newspapers to create a trendy midi dress with a full skirt.

But more original, complex or elaborate models will come in handy when participating in a competition or fashion show. If in everyday life practical things have advantages, then here the flight of imagination is not limited by anything.

Today, a lot of thematic events are held: weddings, parties, children's matinees, student springs. All of them provide an excellent opportunity to create a costume from scrap materials, saving money at the same time and impressing the audience with your ideas.

And what girl doesn’t want an original photo shoot? By choosing the material for the dress to match the setting, you can create a whole ensemble of textures and colors. For example, an outfit made of cones and branches in a spruce forest will create a real sensation.

Model for a balloon competition

From newspapers

Many inexpensive models for any occasion; those who do not want to use recycled materials can choose from dresses from Belarusian manufacturers.

Decorative cardboard inserts

A cardboard sheet will help make the dress truly fluffy. This is an excellent material for a skirt with a frame, a corset.

A disaster - in windy weather, a paper outfit. It will fly away all or parts of it. If cardboard was used, there was a greater chance of attending the celebration in clothes.

The nuances of working with paper

Paper is the main material for creativity, but even this basis has a number of features:

  • Sewing a dress from toilet paper is not easy, so the needlewoman needs to learn the basic movements.
  • Newspapers for creativity must be chosen carefully, since low-quality paint can greatly stain the skin of the owner of the dress.
  • Paper patterns must be made in full size, which will greatly facilitate the work of the needlewoman.
  • During operation, you should protect the material from exposure to moisture and dampness, which can damage the paper.

It is recommended to fold all types of consumables in 2-3 layers, since the paper has a thin structure and is translucent.

Sleeve pattern

The sleeves are also cut out in the form of rectangles, however, in a traditional outfit these are not the usual narrow sleeves strictly fitting the arm, but, on the contrary, very wide elements sewn at the corner with a hole for the wrist in the upper corner. The entrance to the sleeve is also in the upper corner on the other side of the rectangle. In this case, the sleeve is sewn into the base of the kimono not along a full cut, but only in half, and the larger side of the sleeve, folded in half, falls not on the side of the arm, but on the hanging edge. And the remaining open edges are sewn at an angle. Thanks to this, a special look is obtained, which distinguishes the Japanese kimono from other outfits of similar cut.

Another sleeve cut for a kimono is based on a trapezoid, the top of which forms a narrow sleeve, and the bottom is widened as much as possible.
