Turtle

You can make a turtle like this - cut off the bottom part of the bottle. Make a slot in the bottom for money. From thick cardboard, you can use corrugated cardboard, cut out a turtle figurine with a head, legs and tail. Draw eyes, mouth, and paws on this basis.

Then glue the cut-off bottom part of a plastic bottle to this figure using a glue gun. If the bottle is green, then this may be enough - Tortilla, the keeper of money, is ready.

If the color of the base is white, then you can glue squares or diamonds made of colored paper onto it.

How to make a piggy bank with papier-mâché

  1. Inflate the balloon to the desired size. Then we cut out or assemble the legs and nose and attach them to the balloon.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the plain flour and water to form a sticky paste - about one cup of each should be enough for one pig.
  3. Then add salt to the mixture (a tablespoon per cup of flour) to prevent mold from forming.
  4. We tear the newspaper into strips. Then dip them in the paste and apply to the ball, legs and nose. We continue until we have applied about two or three layers.
  5. Let the pig dry completely.

NOTE: Do not expose the piggy bank to sudden changes in temperature at this stage as this may cause the balloon to expand or contract and cause the newspaper to rupture. Also, it might be worth knowing that papier-mâché is a surprisingly irresistible delicacy for both possums and dogs.

When the papier-mâché is completely dry, cut a slot in the top for coins. Then we color our pig.

  1. A white undercoat helps hide the mark, and then we cover it with any color or pattern we like.
  2. You can mix equal parts paint and PVA glue to get a more shiny and durable finish.
  3. Making pig ears. Cut out two circles from plain colored foam, felt, or patterned material.
  4. We use foam dyed to match the pig, but in contrasting colors, and the fabric with a beautiful print will look amazing!
  5. Fold the circles in half and cut a line from about halfway to the center. Then we pinch and glue the lower parts to form small folds.
  6. Glue the ears to the pig and draw or glue on the eyes, nostrils and tail.
  7. The piggy bank is ready, let's start saving!

Rocket

To make a rocket, you need to make a cone out of red paper and glue it to the top of the bottle, after closing the lid. The “body” of the rocket can be wrapped in white paper.

Cut out six or eight triangles from red paper and glue them in pairs, with the colored part facing out, using paper glue. This is how you get stabilizers. Now, using a glue gun, you need to attach them to the base of the rocket.

Tips from needlewomen

The following tips from experienced craftsmen will help you in your work:

  1. During the process, it is worth protecting the work surface by covering it with film or regular newspaper.
  2. The surface with paper decor is varnished for durability.
  3. When the entire surface of the can is covered with paint, it is placed on a stand, the diameter of which should be less than the bottom of the can. This way, dripping paint will not accumulate under the bottom.
  4. If you plan to unscrew the iron lid of the money box, then the sharp edges from the slot inside are smoothed out. This process is carried out before painting using a hammer.
  5. Before painting the lid, seal the slot from the inside with paper to prevent drops from getting inside.
  6. In order for the money box to have an aesthetic appearance, transparent glue is used to glue the decorative parts.
  7. When decorating a piggy bank with decoupage, choose napkins as dense as possible.
  8. It is convenient to cut a hole for coins with a bottle opener after placing the lid on the container.

Tree

Making a piggy bank from wood is not so easy. This requires a special tool and the ability to handle it. For such a craft, you can take a piece of a thick branch with one or several small branches.

A disk about 1 centimeter thick is sawn off from the thick part. In the remaining part, the middle is drilled with a special tool, but not all the way through.

A hole is made at the opposite end for coins. A plug is screwed to the cut disk using a screw so that it fits tightly into the hole in the main part.

You can glue colored paper leaves onto the branches. Then coat all parts with acrylic varnish. The “Money Tree” is ready.

Piggy bank from a photo frame

Using a photo frame and available tools, you can create an atypical piggy bank at home. Such a storage will become an original decor and will constantly attract the eye of the owner, who will certainly want to throw a couple of bills into it.

For the craft you need to prepare:

  • wooden photo frame;
  • photo of your dreams;
  • pencil or felt-tip pen;
  • glue;
  • colored sheet of paper;
  • knife (for wood carving);
  • stripping paper.

Manufactured according to this scheme:

  1. Disassemble the photo frame: remove the back, take out the rim and glass. Mark the dimensions of the money slot with a pencil or felt-tip pen so that both coins and bills can fit into the craft.
  2. Cut a slot with a special knife. I sand the hole with sandpaper to prevent splinters.
  3. A rectangle is cut out of colored paper and glued to the prepared part. It should be the same size as the part where the hole was made.
  4. Remove the top part from the rim that holds the photo. This is necessary so that the money easily sinks to the bottom and does not get stuck.
  5. The blank is inserted into a wooden photo frame (the slot should be under the coin compartment).
  6. Insert a photo or collage with your dream, for which the money raised will go. Close the lid.

The frame piggy bank is ready to receive money! You can make a beautiful inscription on the glass.

Important! Piggy banks attract positive energy and are very important for visualizing desires. It is for this reason that it is recommended to make “targeted” products for storing money, with a clear picture and a specific purpose.

Piggy banks are a useful and fashionable home decor accessory. They not only please the eye, but also help save money for a nice purchase. You can make an interesting piggy bank from the simplest materials. You just need to use your imagination and set aside some free time.

Paper

It is better to make a paper piggy bank with your own hands using the papier-mâché method. For this you will need newsprint, paper napkins, a balloon, PVA glue, paints, egg cells, cardboard, paints.

The ball is inflated and coated with glue. While the glue is not dry, glue the newspaper scraps. In order for the craft to be strong enough, you need to glue 4-5 layers of newspapers. The final layer is paper napkins. Then you need to wait for the glue to dry well.

When the glue has dried, make a hole through which we pull out the ball. We make ears and a muzzle from cardboard. The egg cells will serve as legs. We paint the piggy bank twice with pink paint. Draw eyes and nostrils with black paint. The tail can be made from colored paper or a small piece of rope.

Paper piggy banks

  • pencil;
  • ruler and scissors;
  • a small piece of cardboard sheet;
  • glue;
  • white paint;
  • a pen or felt-tip pen in black and red;
  • stationery knife.

Crafted in stages:

  1. Cut out a rectangle 28x14 cm from a colored paper sheet. Step back 1 cm from the bottom of the workpiece and draw a line.
  2. Bend the part along the intended strip.
  3. Using scissors, make a “fringe” along a bent line at a distance of 1-1.5 cm.
  4. Using a compass and scissors, make a round piece of cardboard.
  5. Lubricate the notches on the rectangle with glue. Roll it up and attach it to a cardboard circle. It turns out to be a jar with a bottom.
  6. Secure the side of the sheet with glue so that the workpiece does not fall apart.
  7. Place a paper jar on a colored sheet and trace the outline with a pencil. Cut out a round piece and glue it to the bottom to hide the “fringe”.
  8. A lid for a piggy bank is made in a similar way from a sheet of a different color. Its size will be three times smaller than the main part of the craft.
  9. They make a beautiful, cheerful face: cut out and glue the eyes, nose, and draw small details with a felt-tip pen.
  10. A hole is made in the lid of the product with a knife where money will be thrown. Trace it with a felt-tip pen.

These funny piggy banks can be made from plain paper!

Cardboard

The simplest version of a cardboard piggy bank is a cube. A pattern is made from a single piece. To prevent the cardboard from breaking, it is better to run a nail or the blunt side of a knife along the folds.

A hole is cut in one of the planes. Then the cube is glued together with paper glue. The lid can be glued on. Or pierce holes in it and in the wall with a nail and make a “lock” from woolen thread or beautiful braid.

The cube can be painted or decorated in any other way that your imagination dictates. If you use corrugated cardboard, the piggy bank will be more durable.

Cardboard piggy banks

Cardboard is an excellent pliable material. Many different crafts are made from it. A cardboard piggy bank is not only an interesting creativity, but also an opportunity to create the right thing without significant expenses.

  3. Cut out light pink paper ears. Small triangles are made from a bright pink paper sheet and fixed to the pink parts with glue.
  4. Holes are made in the lid for the ears. Insert the prepared parts and secure with a glue gun.
  5. Draw eyes, a nose and a smile on the box.
  6. Cut a long thin strip from the pink leaf. Screw onto a pencil. The finished tail is attached to the back of the box.

A cheerful box-pig will delight the owner and save money for a new pair of shoes!

Piggy bank chest of drawers

To store coins at face value, a good solution would be to create a piggy bank from matchboxes. For this craft you need to stock up on:

  • matchboxes (10 pcs.);
  • self-adhesive multi-colored film;
  • scissors;
  • hot glue;
  • decorative beads.

How to make:

  1. Glue match boxes, stacking them 5 pieces together, on top of each other. You will get two blanks.
  2. Connect them together with a glue gun. The craft will resemble a doll chest of drawers with drawers.
  3. Wrap the product with colored self-adhesive.
  4. Beads are attached to the boxes. They will be used instead of handles.

It will not be difficult to take money out of such a chest of drawers. Owners of such crafts will have to “gather all their will into a fist” so as not to use their savings earlier than planned.

Knitted piggy banks

Piggy banks decorated with knitting look very unusual. For them, it’s easy to take a plastic jar and simply tie it around it like a stocking. Tie the ears, paws and attach them to the “body”.

To make the legs stable, they can be strengthened from the inside with cardboard or egg cells. Small buttons on a loop will serve as eyes. Here is a photo of such a homemade piggy bank.

  8. Sew the zipper through the holes made to one plastic blank, then in the same way to the other blank.
  9. Decorate the wallet to your taste by attaching adhesive rhinestones.

The zippered piggy bank is ready!

Tin

This piggy bank is very suitable for saving for something specific. Because you have to open it with a can opener to get the money. To make it, you will need a canning lid, a tin can that fits the lid, and a machine for sealing the lids.

A hole is made in the lid. It is better to process the edges of the hole with a file or sandpaper to avoid injury. Then we put the lid on the jar and roll it up with a machine, as is done when canning. Now the jar can be painted and wrapped in colored paper.

Types of piggy banks

In the modern world, there are several types of piggy banks:

Standard. They are the usual containers with a hole on top for collecting money. Can be in the form of various animals, cartoon characters or houses. They can be disposable (you need to break them to get the money) or reusable (they have a special hole at the bottom with a stopper for removing coins).

Magnetic. Most often they are made in the form of a tree, on the branches of which small magnets are attached. Coins are attached to them. It turns out to be a beautiful money tree. These piggy banks are reusable.

Electronic. Many banks now offer to open a special piggy bank account, to which you can transfer funds yourself or set a certain percentage, and it will be debited from your main account every month automatically.

Virtual. It is also an electronic wallet that can be created on specialized resources. Anyone can fund such an account. Once the required amount has been accumulated, it can be withdrawn to an account in any bank.

Family Affair

Making homemade piggy banks can be used as a way to keep young children occupied. This activity is useful both for communicating with children and developing their creative skills and the ability to work with different materials.

The whole process can be organized as a game. Then the kids will be happy to do this exciting activity. Paper is a fairly soft material. Therefore, a child can make paper piggy banks himself, with his own hands, without the risk of injury.

Even young children can make a piggy bank from cardboard with their own hands. A child can give it as a gift to a friend. During the manufacturing process, you can explain to the child what the piggy bank is for. This way you can instill a careful attitude towards money and teach how to save.

You can even organize an entire design bureau! First, the child makes a project in the form of a picture of a piggy bank. Then he makes it and decorates it himself. Such a game will develop in children the ability to achieve results. As an incentive, adults can put a “down payment” into the piggy bank.

Manufacturing ideas

There are as many ideas for making a piggy bank with your own hands as there are materials that you can use. First you need to decide on the material and also develop the design of the piggy bank. If you are making a gift, check the tastes of the person for whom it is intended.

The easiest place to store money is a tea or biscuit tin. A small slot is made in the lid of such a container to drop coins in, and the piggy bank is ready.

If desired, you can decorate the jar with stickers, tie a bow on it, or wrap it with twine, having previously coated the walls with glue along the entire perimeter.

Original ideas for a homemade piggy bank

The easiest way is to make a homemade piggy bank from a jar or box: all you need is to make a slot and decorate the product beautifully. To create an original piggy bank, you need to use your imagination.

Modern craftswomen offer a selection of the following ideas for independent creativity:

  1. From Lego. Take a construction kit and make a box or product of the required shape from it.
    Leave a hole at the top for coins. To extract money, you just need to disassemble the constructor. Even banknotes can fit here.
  2. Made of wood. This material lends itself well to processing, so the creative process will bring pleasure. You can actually make the most unusual shapes of piggy banks from wood.
  3. From salt dough. The material is considered one of the easiest to work with - it can be sculpted into any shape and then painted with acrylic pigment.
  4. From wine corks. Using hot glue, all the plugs are glued into one structure, forming a box. You can make a hole on top for paper money and for coins separately.

Ordinary and polymer clay have shown themselves to be good for modeling: it is convenient to make a wide variety of products from this raw material. Don’t forget to bake the finished piggy bank in the oven and then decorate it.

Step-by-step paper production

The most affordable option for making a piggy bank is to make it from paper. Improvised means can also be used for work.

Cardboard options involve designing a box with a hole on top.

In this master class we will look at making using the papier-mâché technique:

  1. To work you will need an inflatable ball, a cardboard egg box, newspaper, glue, scissors, a needle, paints and decorative brushes.
  2. The finished piggy bank will be shaped like a pig, so to create it, inflate the balloon to the required size.
  3. Begin to cover the ball with finely torn newspapers, first moistening them generously with glue. There should be a total of 3 layers of newsprint to ensure the work is strong.
  4. Leave a hole on top for coins; the pig's paws will protrude from the cardboard egg cells.
  5. When the entire ball is covered, leave it to dry completely. After this, take a needle, pierce the ball - it will deflate.
  6. At the last stage, you need to decorate the pig as desired.

As you can see, the manufacturing technology is so simple that even a child can handle it.

Important! For the last layer, it is better to use not newsprint paper, but tissue paper or one that will give the final smoothness to the product.

The finished piggy bank will decorate the interior of a child’s room well and instill in the child a sense of saving.

Piggy bank from a bottle and jar

Since ancient times, people have used jars to store and save money. It is very convenient to pour coins out of the jar; in addition, it is transparent and you can immediately see how many coins have already accumulated.

Note! To make a version from a bottle, both a plastic and a glass bottle are useful.

You should not take a larger container if the product is intended for a child.

It is better to take a liter jar or a 750 milliliter bottle:

StageJob
Select the material: take a small glass jar or plastic liter bottle, paints, decor, a knifeFor children you can make a pig piggy bank, for adults you can style the jar as a hobby
Forming a piggy bankPaint the jar, draw the necessary patterns, make inscriptions. Paint the bottle pink, glue 2 eyes at the neck, and also fix the pig’s “paws” along the body
HoleFor the jar, a regular nylon lid is used, where a slot is made. Cut a hole in the bottle on the back of the pig with a knife.

How to make a piggy bank from plaster?

The simplest option for making a piggy bank from plaster is the round shape of the product. For example, in the form of a dog, a pig or just a big smiley face.

To work you will need alabaster, water, an inflatable balloon, paints, brushes and strong but careful hands to make a slot:

  • Gypsum is diluted in a plastic bottle, a ball is put on it and the mass is poured inside.
  • The ball is picked up and gently rotated: as soon as the plaster has set, the ball is placed in water and continued to be rolled to distribute the mass.
  • After the homemade piggy bank has completely hardened, the ball is carefully cut with a knife.
  • The piggy bank is painted with acrylic paints and decorated.
  • Using a screwdriver, cut a hole.

According to this scheme, you can make a New Year's piggy bank in the shape of a ball and give it to your loved ones and children.

Important! When working with plaster, use gloves and place a protective oilcloth over your work area.

This craft will be a good gift for friends, and can also be considered for industrial production.
