Knitting Christmas trees does not have to be green, because we all know that a stylized Christmas tree can be absolutely anything:

  • white in the snow;
  • silver luminous;
  • gold;
  • and maybe even blue in frost.

One of the options for New Year's decoration of a champagne bottle is a knitted cover in the shape of a Christmas tree. Give your guests this Christmas tree at your New Year's party, they will surely appreciate it.

By the way, New Year's garlands, napkins and panels in the form of a Christmas tree are very popular abroad. An openwork Christmas tree can be knitted according to a napkin pattern, just increase its size, strengthen it along the contour and hang it on a wall or window - you will get an excellent New Year's panel.

What yarn to knit Christmas trees from?

If you want your toy to be as close as possible to the original, then you should take green yarn, such as fantasy “grass” or YarnArt Christmas. Its composition does not matter much. For a Christmas tree with stylized branches or needles, take regular smooth yarn; leftovers of any green shades will do.

By the way, in our selection you will find Christmas trees not only green, but also any other color. For example, one of the needlewomen knitted a pink and blue “sparkling Christmas tree” - it turned out to be a glamorous option for girls.

What shape to choose for the Christmas tree

The shape of the Christmas tree directly depends on the purpose of its use.

  1. Flat, cone-shaped, triangular, basically any shape is suitable for a toy.
  2. If you want to hang a panel on the wall, then it is better to knit a flat figure using an openwork technique: fillet, Bruges, Irish lace.
  3. A Christmas tree that will stand on a table or bedside table as an interior decoration should be stable and preferably on a frame. It can be a cone, a pyramid, with a flat and solid base.

We have compiled a selection of crocheted Christmas trees of completely different shapes. We hope you enjoy the ideas and knit toys for your loved ones for the upcoming New Year 2022!

Crochet Christmas trees for the New Year - a simple knitting pattern

The simplest crocheted Christmas trees are based on a cone. Any yarn can be used: acrylic, knitwear, wool mixture; from grass, fluffy and “spiky” Christmas trees are obtained, and from yarn with Lurex, the Christmas tree will sparkle and sparkle.

Take a thread that is not very thick and a hook that, as always, matches it.

Knitting patterns can also be used in a wide variety of ways: simple dense knitting with single crochets, relief, cones, openwork and others.

The finished product is decorated with beads, seed beads, rhinestones, lace, chains, earrings, buttons, ribbons, and bows.

First of all, let's understand the cone knitting pattern.

How to knit a cone for a Christmas tree

We start knitting from the crown and every approximately 3 rows (this number will depend on the thickness of the yarn and the desired width of the Christmas tree) we make increases in five evenly distributed places.

We cast on 2 VPs and knit 5 sc into the second (you can make a sliding loop and knit stitches into it), close it in a circle, connecting the last stitch with the 1st chain loop, and make this connection at the end of each row.

2nd row: 1sc in each column (5).

Row 3: we make increases - we knit 2 stitches in each stitch (10).

4 – 5 rows: no increases (10).

Row 6: increase in every second loop – 1 sc, increase, etc. (15).

7 – 8 rows: 15 columns in each, i.e. there is no need to make an increase.

9th row: 2СБН, increase - we perform it in every third loop (20).

10 – 11 row: 20 columns each.

12th row: 3СБН, increase (25).

And then, according to this pattern, we continue to knit until the desired height of the Christmas tree.

Knit the last 2-3 rows evenly without any increases to create a beautiful base.

In the above photo by Annoo, the ribbed voluminous edge is obtained by alternating knitting on the back and front walls of the loops.

How to make a bottom

After the cone is ready, it needs to be decorated and filled with some kind of filler - holofiber, cotton wool.

We close the lower part of the cone with a knitted bottom.

For it you need to knit a small circle - the number of loops in the last row should be equal to the number of loops at the base of the cone.

Sew the knitted piece onto a cardboard circle to make the Christmas tree more stable, and then connect it to the cone.

If the tree is going to be hung, then you can make a leg - knit a tube in a circle using several loops without any increments in the rows.

Knitting tools and materials

To crochet a Christmas tree craft, you will need materials and tools that can be found in almost any home:

  • threads;
  • cardboard - for crafts on a frame;
  • filler – for soft toys;
  • hook;
  • scissors;
  • sewing needle;
  • beads, sequins, beads, decorative buttons, satin ribbons, bows - for decoration.

Let's take a closer look at each of the items on the list. For knitting toys, you can use both natural and synthetic threads. Preferred colors: green, blue, white, silver or even gold. For openwork fillet knitted Christmas trees or using the Irish lace technique, it is better to choose thinner yarn, and for voluminous crafts - “grass” or simply thicker threads.

New Year's tree crafts can be flat in the form of an openwork napkin or a wall panel, as well as voluminous - soft toys or interior crafts. In the last two cases, for their manufacture you will need thick cardboard for the frame or filler.

As a filler, you can use padding polyester, padding polyester and foam rubber, which are sold in handicraft stores. But you can go the other way, using available materials - cotton wool, wool, cereals, husks, seeds, fragrant herbs.

Cotton wool is the cheapest filler, but you should remember that after washing, a toy stuffed with it loses its original appearance.

An old wool sweater, cut into pieces, also works well for filling knitted toys. The only disadvantage of this filler is that moths love it very much.

Bulk fillers are used together with soft ones or independently to fill anti-stress toys. In order for a knitted Christmas tree to turn into a relaxation toy, the loose filler must be sewn into a thick fabric bag that follows the shape of the product.

A Christmas tree filled with fragrant herbs will become a wonderful aromatic sachet, which after the holiday you can hang in your closet so that things will smell fragrant all year round. You can collect herbs yourself in the summer or buy them at a pharmacy.

The hook and sewing needle must be suitable for the selected yarn, so it is better to carefully study the recommendations indicated on its label. There is only one requirement for scissors - they must be sharp.

A New Year tree cannot be without decorations. They can be sewn to the finished craft using threads or glued using hot glue.

Beautiful Christmas trees made of knitted yarn - master class

The photo shows Natalia’s handmade Christmas tree, which I saw on Instagram. It’s just a simple cone, but the knitted yarn does its job, all things from it turn out to be of amazing beauty - bright, stylish, neat.

You can watch how to work with knitted yarn and a master class on knitting a similar Christmas tree in the video of another master, Maria.

"Bump" pattern

This pattern can be knitted or crocheted. It is suitable for knitting a Christmas tree, as it is quite voluminous.

Christmas trees with crocheted pompoms - detailed description

Posted by Vendula Maderska

The cutest Christmas trees are knitted according to a slightly different principle - from spherical parts like snowmen with a long crown - a cap, decorated with a pompom.

How to make pompoms from yarn in different ways. Crafts made from pompoms for home and comfort

Decor - as you wish, you can do it with buttons, ribbons, snowflakes, hearts.

It is also knitted from the crown, starting with 5 loops in an amigurumi ring. The author also provided a detailed description in the public domain.

Christmas trees - toys

To decorate a real big Christmas tree, you can make small knitted toys. And not necessarily green; all possible and impossible colors are acceptable in a fairy tale.

Conveniently, they are made of two parts, connected according to the pattern in reverse rows.

In a sliding loop, cast on 3 VP lifts and 8 double crochets.

Pull the thread, turn the work and knit according to the pattern, making increases in the right places.

The beginning of the 7th row must be done offset to the 12th column: stretch the connecting thread to it through all the loops of the 6th row.

Similarly, at the beginning of the 9th row, pull the thread to the 10th column.

Tie the two parts together with a hook using connecting posts, while filling them with filler.

Don't forget to tie a loop to the top of your head.

For beginners, there is the opportunity to watch a video master class.

Ideas for experienced craftswomen

Knitting New Year's crafts draws you into the needlework process literally from the first stitch. Creative people who have sufficient experience in crocheting often want to create something of their own, something unique and unlike others. For such craftsmen and craftswomen, below are images of finished Christmas trees, which they can repeat or use as ideas for inspiration when creating their masterpieces.

A crocheted Christmas tree will be a wonderful souvenir that you can give to a friend or relative. In addition, this is a good way to find a use for small skeins of yarn that knitters often accumulate. A pleasant bonus of such a craft is that the festive New Year mood will settle in the house even before the end of work.

Small green Christmas tree under the snow

Next, I have a selection of ideas for small Christmas trees from various magazines. The ideas are most likely not new, but very simple. And if you haven't knitted these yet, why not do it now?

For example, this green yarn Christmas tree with white trim looks like it has snow on it.

To begin with, knit a cone, and then a ruffle around it.

For a cone, cast on 5 VPs, close them in a ring and knit 12 C1H into it.

Next we knit in the round according to the pattern to the desired height.

Around the entire Christmas tree in a spiral, embroider an auxiliary row with a chain stitch and tie a ruffle along it, knitting 2 double crochets in each loop.

Tie the ruffle in single crochets with white thread.

How to knit an openwork Christmas tree

The openwork wavy pattern creates the effect of fluffy spruce branches.

It is proposed to crochet such a Christmas tree from green iris with a 0.9 crochet hook. For decoration you will need 20 pearls.

Size: 15 x 27 cm.

We close the chain of 5 VPs in a circle.

1st row: 3VP, 9СБН.

2nd row: 3VP, 9SC in each column of the previous row.

3rd row: increase in every 3rd loop, there will be 12 loops in total.

Row 4: make 4 increments evenly (16).

5th row: 4 more increases (20).

Row 6: add 5 stitches (25).

Rows 7 – 9: we also evenly increase the number of loops by 5 (40).

We knit rows 10–11 without increments.

From the 12th row, openwork knitting according to the pattern is already underway.

Interior volumetric Christmas trees

Elegant, very beautiful Christmas trees with almost real branches, which are obtained by attaching a border knitted with a pattern of leaves to a cone.

They themselves will become a wonderful interior decoration. And on holiday you can put gifts under them.

The approximate size of the Christmas trees is 28-30 cm in height.

For knitting you will need:

  • 100 grams of yarn
  • hook number 3
  • holofiber
  • two circles of cardboard with a diameter of 12 cm or CDs.

The Christmas tree consists of different parts.

  1. For the base of the tree and stand, knit 4 circles: two green and two brown.
  2. The trunk can be made from a rectangular fabric by tying it with single crochets and stitching along the edge.
  3. For the main “body” of the Christmas tree, tie a cone according to the above diagram.
  4. When the parts are ready, we will start assembling. Sew two pairs of circles for the base and stand, inserting cardboard circles into them.
  5. Sew the trunk on one side to the stand, and on the other to the base of the tree.
  6. Fill the cone with holofiber and sew to the base.
  7. Now you need to tie the “branches” and sew them to the Christmas tree in a spiral. It is proposed to knit them on a chain of 1250 loops! But I advise you not to type their exact number, but to do the following. Knit a chain of any length and start knitting a border from another skein from the beginning of the chain, while sewing it to the cone. If the loops in the chain run out, they can be tied. Of course, this is not very convenient, but the length of the border will be what is needed and there will be no extra loops left and it will not happen that there are not enough loops.

How to knit twigs - border

In one loop of the chain - *3С1Н, 2С2Н, 3С1Н; skip 2 loops, 1sc, skip 2 loops* and repeat along the entire length of the chain.

Taper knitting needles

The Christmas tree is knitted on circular or stocking needles. It’s easier on stockings, since the number of loops is small. Evenly distribute the stitches onto 4 knitting needles and knit upwards, decreasing the stitches. In one row, it is better to decrease one loop at a time in any convenient way (by knitting two loops together or by pulling).

The Christmas tree pattern can be simple: knit or purl stitches.

For volume, jacquard, braids, and plaits are added.

White Christmas tree made of spirals

Very unusual, such a playful Christmas tree with curls made of knitted spirals. The base for it is made of a cardboard cone onto which the spirals are glued (you need to start gluing from the bottom).

Knit the spirals according to the pattern, these small strips will twist themselves, you can help them a little.

Embroidery deer

There are two deer in the diagram, 40 loops. That is, we will repeat this drawing on the Christmas tree twice.

We embroider on the front surface with blue thread. The example shows heart embroidery, the principle is the same.

We embroider according to the tick marks. You can sew beads in place of the eyes.

We fill the finished Christmas tree with padding polyester, and I again put cardboard of a larger diameter down.
