Beaded tassel earrings can become a bright accent in your look, turning even an everyday look into a stylish and elegant ensemble. You can make this decoration yourself using various master classes.
A simple way to make tassels from threads
Tassels, which are made from threads or yarn, can decorate the edges of a knitted blanket, decorate curtains or a headdress. If the tassel is made only from threads, without adding beads or other decorative elements, it can be completed in no more than 15 minutes.
Despite the fact that this decorative element is done quite quickly, several recommendations must be followed:
- You should consider what item the finished tassel will decorate. The size of the product depends on the type of thread, the length of the tassel, or the addition of other decorative elements (for example, beads). So, if a tassel is added to the curtains, it is necessary to choose longer threads than for the tassel on the hat.
- To add volume to finished tassels, you can use thick threads in contrasting colors. Such tassels will complement a knitted blanket or bedspread well.
- Thinner threads, such as floss, can be used to create earrings. This type of tassel is more complex, since several techniques are combined during the work on the decoration, for example, beading, macrame.
- To get started, you should select threads, prepare scissors, a base on which the threads will be wound while creating tassels. So, a small piece of cardboard can serve as the basis for a future brush. But it is necessary to pay attention to the surface of the base, since abrasions and nicks on it can prevent the removal of the brush from the base or spoil the threads.
To create the simplest yarn tassel, you need to prepare threads, for example, soft yarn, scissors and a base, the length and width of which depend on the length of the future decoration.
Yarn tassels, which can be made by both an inexperienced needlewoman and a more experienced craftswoman, are created using the following steps:
- Take the selected ball of thread, unwind a small piece and wind it onto the selected base. To avoid making a mistake when determining the size of the tassel, you should not cut the thread from the ball or skein before it is completely wound onto the warp.
- After this, you need to secure the brush on one side. To do this, you need to cut a small piece of thread of the same color, thread it through the entire bunch and tie a knot. It must be very strong so that the tassel does not unravel.
- On the other side, the threads are cut. To make the cut more even, you need to cut with sharp scissors.
- The last step in the design is to braid the tassel with thread one more turn. When winding is completed, the loose ends should be hidden under the brush. Take scissors and trim the edges of the cut. The considered option is the easiest way to create a tassel from threads.
Chain brush
Tools and materials
- Connecting ring. Its thickness and diameter depend on the size of the chain and the splendor of the desired brush: ours is 14 mm. When choosing a ring, you focus on your own needs. The main thing is that it opens and can be threaded into a link in the existing chain. In the classic version, the color of the ring should match the color of the chain. But now in jewelry it is permissible and even encouraged to combine different metals. Jump rings are widely presented here: Jump rings.
- Chain. Its meterage and thickness also depend on the desired size of the brush. Ours is approximately 1.2 meters. Here we use a chain decorated with cut glass rondels. But this is not necessary; any chain of loose weaving is suitable for the brush (so that the brush is movable and the pin or ring can be easily threaded into the links). You can find different chains here: Chains.
- Needle nose pliers - they are convenient for opening rings and links.
- Pliers - and they are for holding and squeezing.
Progress
- Divide the chain into equal sections. We have 12 segments of 10 cm each. But this is an arbitrary value. You can do without precise measurements at all, based on the availability and footage of the material you have. Just fold the chain in half and cut it. Therefore, we cut each of the halves in half, etc. By the way, a tassel can also be assembled from fragments of a chain of different lengths: you will get a stepped tassel.
- We open the connecting ring using round-nosed pliers or other tools at hand.
- We thread the open ring into the first link of each of the prepared short sections of the chain.
- We close the ring and press it well so that at the junction there are no hooks or gaps through which our chain thread can slip. All. Our brush is ready!
Notes and Explanations
This chain tassel can be used as a pendant or pendant, as the only decorative element. And you can complement a complex decoration composition with one or several such brushes at once.
And by the way, you can decorate a tassel from a regular chain yourself with sparkling (or some other) beads. Along the way, another mini-master class on turning an ordinary chain into a chain decorated with beads.
Materials:
- Any beads that the chain can support will do.
- Pins. It’s better to choose pins with an eye, then you’ll have to make one less eye, but, in general, any will do.
Progress:
- We put the bead on the pin needle.
- If the pin has an eyelet, then we already have one fastening loop. All that remains is to bend the same one on the other side using pliers. But don’t rush to close it thoroughly.
- Cut the chain. We attach one of its segments to one loop of our bead strung on a pin, and the other to the other side.
- We carefully tighten both loops.
In this way, both single beads and entire garlands of them can be embedded between the links of the chain. In the second case, the beads on the pins are first connected to each other.
And further! Chain brushes can be not only flat, as in this case, with a brush assembled on a connecting ring. It is enough to take a connecting ring of a smaller diameter and, after performing the same simple operations of stringing sections of the chain onto it, hide the ring under the “cap” of a cap of a suitable size, and a tassel, rounded at the base, will also work out.
How to make a tassel from floss threads
Floss tassels can decorate a scarf, bag or earrings. You can also use a tassel made from floss to decorate a bookmark. To work, you will need floss threads, scissors and a fork, which is the basis for winding threads.
The process of creating a tassel from floss can be described as follows:
- Select all the necessary thread colors.
- Wind the selected threads onto the fork. They should be wound along the width, not along the length of the cutlery. After the first turns of the thread, you need to thread a piece of thread from one side, which should then be tied into a knot to strengthen the tassel.
- Continue winding the thread until the tassel becomes the required thickness.
- Tie a knot on the side where the piece of thread was pulled through. This knot will help the tassel not to unravel.
- Between the top and the next tines of the fork, thread a thread of the same color as the woven tassel, wrap it several times and secure firmly. Remove the brush from the fork. In order for the tassel to be attached to things, you can attach another thread or cord to it.
Selecting color and image
Interesting, elegant earrings can complement any look, the main thing is to choose the right colors. Black tassels will suit girls with blond hair, and red tassels will look great on brunettes. We also remember that:
- Gold-colored tassels will match clothes of any color and add a festive touch to your look;
- White will also go well with any color of clothing and will add freshness to the image;
- Multi-colored ones will look great with summer clothes.
In order for the image to look great, it is necessary to take into account the combination of colors of jewelry and clothing items. There are several rules for this:
- We select jewelry in a shade close to the chosen outfit;
- Choosing a great color to accent the decoration;
- Combination with one of the shades of the outfit;
- Using complementary colors.
Since these earrings are very elegant, they are not suitable, for example, for office clothes. We choose earrings according to the situation and in accordance with the chosen clothes. What would these earrings go with? They are perfect with the following clothing options:
- Dresses with fringes, in the same tone or opposite;
- Earrings with beads and rhinestones for evening dresses;
- Tassels in blue tones go well with jeans.
Hairstyle is also of great importance. Tied hair will highlight the lightness and luxury of the earrings. And if you let your hair down, then you should use a contrasting color of the decoration to avoid merging. A good choice would be if the details of the clothing, for example, shoes, a handbag or a belt with earrings, are combined. Tassels will look great with the following clothing options:
- Lightweight tunic made of plain fabric;
- Thick fabric vest;
- Denim dress;
- Sundress with a neutral pattern;
- Trousers with fringed belt;
- Leather skirt;
- Blouse of the opposite color;
- Sophisticated floor-length dress;
- Shorts with a T-shirt.
From silk threads
According to craftswomen who weave tassels from various types of threads, the most suitable material for creating earring tassels is silk threads.
In order to weave a tassel from silk threads, you will need the following materials and tools:
- Silk threads
- Threads similar in color to the threads from which the tassel will be made (they will be needed for tying)
- Clear nail polish
- A box or piece of cardboard used as a base
- A sheet of paper that can be used to trim the edges of the brush
The table below shows the types of thread that can be used to create silk thread tassels.
Company manufacturer | Description of threads | Advantages of threads | Disadvantages of threads |
Doli (India) | The most popular company among needlewomen. Composition: viscose. | They wind up quickly and are dense to the touch. If you tighten the threads too much, they will break. | No deficiencies were identified. |
Gamma (China) | Composition: viscose. | They wind up quickly and are pleasant to the touch. | They may seem thin, do not hold their shape even on a spool, and the winding may unwind during operation. |
Shoe capron 50K (Russia) | Composition: polyamide. | The threads do not fluff or break during operation. | No deficiencies were identified. |
Tassels from this type of thread can be woven according to the following instructions:
- Wind the prepared threads onto the base. To prevent the thread from unraveling on the base, you can hold it with your finger while the first turns are wound.
- When a sufficient amount of thread has been wound, it is necessary to tightly bandage the future decoration. When tying future tassels, you also need to tightly wrap the thread around them several times. This will prevent the silk thread tassel from coming undone.
- To catch all the threads when removing from the warp, you can pick them up with a ruler. You must try to cut the bundle so that the wound threads are in the center. The result is a bundle of threads tied in the middle.
- Since silk threads can fluff and spoil the appearance of the finished product, it is necessary to carefully straighten the threads over a hot kettle. To avoid getting burned, you can hang a bunch of threads on a pencil.
- Next, rewind the tassel with a new thread at a distance of about 1 cm from the fold of the bundle, making 2 - 3 knots while winding. To prevent the knots from unraveling, you can coat them with a small amount of varnish. After the varnish has dried, press down the knot with your fingers.
- To make the brush more even, you should take a sheet of paper and wrap the brush in it so that almost half of the future decoration remains unwrapped in this sheet. The result will be a roll, on one side of which there will be a thread tying the tassel, and on the other, the end of the tassel, which needs to be trimmed. For a more accurate trim, you can pull the thread, after which only uneven edges will remain on the outside.
- Squeeze the roll tightly in your hand and trim any stray threads with sharp scissors. Remove the brush from the paper. The work on the brush is completed.
DIY brush earrings: methods for making earrings
Spectacular earrings became popular with the spread of Art Deco style in clothing and interior design in the first half of the 20th century, which strives for clear and concise lines, simplicity of execution and bright color shades.
Tassel earrings continue to be a trend in fashion shows; when chosen correctly, they allow you to create a unique look and give a special charm to their owner. Stylish and fashionable jewelry is easy to make with your own hands. Accessories, necessary materials and special tools for the job can be purchased at any sewing store.
Tassels for a hat
Yarn tassels, which can be made from any type of yarn, can decorate a hat. Children also really like this decoration. To fit these tassels into the product, needlewomen knit a hat with small ears, onto the ends of which strands with tassels can be sewn. You can use a yarn brush to replace a pompom on a hat. Making a pompom is more difficult, so you can make a tassel instead.
To work you will need:
- Threads matching color and thickness. You can use threads of the same color as the hat itself.
- The base on which the tassel will be wound.
- If desired, you can add decorative elements to the tassel itself, for example, thread large beads onto a thread.
- Sharp scissors that will be used to cut the threads.
Work on the product takes place in accordance with the following steps:
- Start winding the thread onto the previously prepared base. The thread should be twisted tightly so that it does not unwind and deteriorate the appearance of the brush. When enough thread has been wound, cut it from the ball.
- Take 3 threads and fold them together. The threads must be long, since the braid will be woven from them. Pass them under the entire future brush in the middle on one of the sides and tie them in a knot so that the brush does not unravel.
- Turn the cardboard over and cut it in the center with scissors, making sure that the ends of the tassel are even.
- Straighten the tassel, take a small piece of thread, wrap it around the center, forming a neat knot. Securely fix the tip of the thread and hide it in the brush.
- Start forming a tourniquet that will connect the ears and the brush itself. The plait is woven from 3 threads threaded into a brush: from them you need to weave a tight and neat braid.
- If desired, you can add beads by threading them through the braided braid. After this, you can sew the braid with a tassel onto the hat.
What to wear with tassel earrings?
Tassel earrings in everyday looks
Tassel earrings go harmoniously with festive outfits and casual outfits. It must be said that this accessory is inappropriate in an office with a strict dress code, where extremely restrained decor is appropriate. Bright tassels go well with jeans if you match them to your bracelet, bag, or belt. Current colors are turquoise, yellow and orange, scarlet, fuchsia and neon green. For example, on vacation you can safely combine a plaid shirt, a cowboy hat, tassel earrings, and jeans. Earrings that combine several colors harmonize well with similar tones in clothing.
In summer it is good to wear breathable linen items in light colors with a loose fit. If it is a sundress, then white brushes will also suit it. You can also choose pastel colors - blue, blue. Pink tassel earrings are especially beautiful and delicate. Also, on warm days, it is convenient to choose earrings to match the tone of sandals, sandals, decorated with fringe. Undoubtedly, pairing tassels with fringed suede jackets would be a cool option. Fringe can also be found on a tunic, bag, vest, dress. In this case, you need to choose an accessory that matches or contrasts. For example, bright yellow earrings and black clothes.
It's not a bad idea to wear a fringed belt along with tassels in your ears. With the help of such a feminine and beautiful combination, you can emphasize and diversify a stylish look with trousers or a skirt. Accessories make clothing ensembles complete and attractive. Tassels in the ears can be made in the same color scheme as any item of clothing or accessory, but it is also acceptable for them to be completely different, but organically combined. Of course, fringe goes well with such earrings, but there is no need to overuse it.
An example of a harmonious look is a dark blue women's chiffon jumpsuit, neutral beige sandals and a clutch bag with blue tassel earrings. Another good option is a light leopard print top, snow-white trousers, brown-orange sandals and an orange clutch bag and tassels. These earrings look picturesque with shorts made of cotton, leather, corduroy or denim. It’s good if the tassels match the color of the pendant, necklace, bracelet, shoes or bag.

Evening look with tassels
To create a sophisticated evening look, it is better not to use modest earrings; unusual shapes and materials are suitable.
For example, items made of beads, precious and semi-precious stones are suitable for the holiday. At evening events, voluminous accessories are appropriate. Choosing earrings is as easy as shelling pears - you just need to skillfully combine them with a dress or suit. You also need to take into account the color of the bag and shoes. The most noble and feminine option is burgundy tassel earrings combined with a chic dress. Tassels go with sandals, stiletto heels or wedges, high-heeled shoes, fashionable ankle boots, brutal design boots, wedge sneakers, and different models of shoes. The most successful looks involve a color combination of earrings and shoes. It's good if the shoes have fringes.
Neutral brushes are not dominant, but only complement the image. These are black tassel earrings. Muted blue, beige, and gray accessories can also be called neutral. White tassel earrings add notes of freshness and purity to your looks. They also maintain neutrality and do not dominate the composition. Gold earrings will match any color of clothing. Silver tassel earrings have the same property.
Brush-shaped earrings can also be the main accent of the look. You will benefit if you give preference to an unusual color design or a noble, win-win tone from the classic palette. To accurately choose earrings to match your clothes, you need to settle on one color that is included in the set of clothes.
A good solution for the evening is to choose brushes in the same color scheme as your outfit. The color of jewelry may differ in several tones from the background of clothing, that is, it may be lighter or darker. For example, black-gray, blue-cyan, blue-turquoise, orange-yellow. You can go further and buy bold and positive multi-colored earrings. They should be worn with plain clothes or things in neutral colors, then you will look stylish and become the queen of the ball.

For the scarf
Yarn tassels, which any needlewoman can make, will decorate both a warm winter scarf and a light summer shawl. To make this element you will need yarn, scissors and a base on which the yarn will be wound.
After this, yarn that matches the color of the scarf should be wound on the base, tied with another piece of thread and secured with a knot. The ends of the thread with which the tassel will be tied can be hidden in the remaining threads that form the tassel.
The bottom edge should be cut with sharp scissors and any uneven ends should be trimmed. After this, you need to tie the tassel at a distance of about 1 cm from the top of the decoration. Tassels made of dense yarn can be a decoration for a winter or autumn scarf.
To decorate a thin and light scarf, the yarn can be replaced with thin sewing threads. The materials for making the scarf element remain the same, with the exception of the yarn.
To make the tassels quite dense and neat, you can make 100 turns of thread around the base. Next, you should pick up the wound threads with a needle. Then pull a new thread through the entire winding and tie it with 2 knots.
After this, remove the threads from the base and cut shorter the threads that tied the tassel in the center. The entire tassel should be tied with a new piece of thread. The upper part of the brush must be wrapped with the same thread that was tied around the top of the brush. You should tie the 2 ends of this thread with strong knots. The final step is trimming the bottom of the tassel.
Thread tassel earrings
To weave tassel earrings from threads, you can prepare viscose or silk threads. Polyester is also used, one of the advantages of which is their neat appearance: while all other silk threads need to be steamed to make them smoother, this should not be done with polyester threads. You also need to prepare a piece of cardboard, the width of which will be slightly larger than the width of the brush.
The thread must be wound onto the base. Make sure that an equal amount of thread is wound on both tassels. If you can’t determine this by eye, you can count the number of turns.
Next, you need to prepare a few more pieces of thread that match the color of the future tassels. Each of the tassels should be tied, and on the other side of the winding a cut is made with sharp scissors. After this, the threads may become fluffy, so they should be steamed for several minutes. As a result, the tassels will straighten and look neater.
After this, you need to insert the tassels into the earring fittings. You should open the ring of the pin and thread it through the loop of the tassel. Then the ring is closed with round pliers. End caps are put on the pins, the pin is bent at a right angle, and cut off with wire cutters. It is necessary to leave about 8 - 10 mm and form a ring. You can add beads or crystals if you wish. This step completes the assembly of the earrings.
Tassel earrings on stars
Brush earrings look impressive and expensive on celebrities. To look stylish, all you have to do is follow the example of your favorite stars. They usually choose elegant accessories, have a rich wardrobe, skillfully apply makeup, and always look young and attractive. Famous girls and women love different types of tassel earrings, which means this style element is worthy of your attention.
Sienna Miller Natalie Portman Olga Kurylenko
Catchy tassels in the ears are good because they definitely attract attention to themselves, distracting others from imperfect skin, unprofessional makeup, and a fat or shapeless figure. Use this weapon: let several pairs of new earrings appear among your everyday and holiday accessories and you will gain a new level of self-confidence, add variety and color to your wardrobe.
For decorating curtains
Yarn tassels, which can be made to decorate curtains, are best made from thick yarn. Before starting work, you need to determine what thickness and size the tassels on the curtains will be and prepare cardboard for the base.
After this, the following steps are performed:
- Cut a piece of thread 30-40 cm long. The tassel will hang on this piece.
- Place the thread on the warp and wind the threads along it at right angles.
- After a sufficient number of turns have been made, cut off the winding from the ball, and on the other hand, tie the brush with a knot.
- Remove the thread from the cardboard and tighten the knot with which the hand is tied.
- Using sharp scissors, cut the brush on one side.
- Decide on the mounting method. Method 1 – bringing the fastening thread to the top, method 2 – placing the fastening inside.
- A simpler option: the thread that holds the future decoration of the curtain stretches upward, and the upper part of the tassel is tied under it. To secure the garter, wrap a piece of thread around the tassel several times.
- The more complicated option is described as follows: after cutting the winding, lower the thread onto which the future decorative element will be attached. Form the top of the tassel by winding a piece of thread several times. Take the fastening thread and turn it over, distributing the ends of the tassel. Wind the remaining piece of thread around the top several times. Tighten and tie in a knot. Trim the ends so that the tassel earrings look neat.
Tassels for floss bracelets
Bracelets made from floss - baubles - are popular among children and teenagers. Many needlewomen who weave these bracelets strive to decorate them beautifully by adding unusual ties in the form of tassels made from floss threads.
To weave a tassel onto a bracelet you will need the following materials:
- Woven bauble with string ties;
- Floss threads;
- A small piece of cardboard or a bank card;
- Sharp scissors;
- Glue or nail polish.
You can decorate the finished bracelet with tassels according to the following instructions:
- Before you start creating the tassel, you should arrange the ties of the bracelet: weave braids, plaits or so-called fish tails.
- Start winding the thread onto cardboard or card. You can use threads of different colors for this.
- Start connecting the brush and bracelet ties. Divide the bundle coming from the tie into 2 parts and stretch one half over the winding and remove from the base. Tie a knot with the remaining threads from the tie and secure the future brush to the ends of the tie. After this, cut the brush. To make the tie more secure, you can coat the middle of the brush with glue.
- Move all the threads down, give them the appearance of a tassel and add the last thread, tying it on the future decoration. Wrap the entire bundle with this piece of thread. To secure this thread to the bun, you can pass its tip through the entire brush.
- When finishing the brush, you should cut the brush, making it either shorter or longer. To make the brush fluffier, you can comb it with a brush.
A beautiful and simple decoration - tassels woven from yarn can be used as a decorative element. They can be seen on curtains, hats and decorations. Both beginners and more experienced craftswomen can make tassels, so even teenagers can decorate woven floss bracelets with thread tassels.
Material for production
In order to make this decoration, you need to have:
- a spool or skein of thread from which the tassel will be wound;
- template for winding (made of thick cardboard or you can use a plastic card);
- scissors;
- cotton threads of the same color for tying the bundle;
- awl;
- needle;
- a pan of boiling water or an electric kettle.
