How to make a boomerang that comes back from wood with your own hands - diagrams and drawings for making at home

Making a boomerang is just as fun as playing with it. As if by magic, it flies around the circle and returns to its owner. How to make a boomerang at home?

Many guides with drawings and diagrams for making boomerangs have already been written, but I still want to share with you my experience on how to make a boomerang that returns from wood. If you wanted to replenish your hunting arsenal, then I have to disappoint you - real hunting boomerangs used by primitive tribes were non-returning and quite heavy. Those returning were more likely to serve for entertainment, and perhaps to drive birds into nets (although no written evidence has been recorded). The boomerang that I will tell you about today weighs only 80 g, and is hardly capable of harming anyone larger than a fly.

Two-blade boomerang version

The blades are made in accordance with the schematic drawing. After this, grooves are cut into them. After this, the “wings” are glued or connected with screws. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that balancing is maintained. Because at the slightest violation, you can make a boomerang that comes back.

Three-bladed boomerang

This option has a longer range and flight time. In the case when you do not have experience throwing this weapon, the length of the blades should not exceed 0.25-0.3 m.

Required materials and tools

To make a boomerang yourself, you will need a small amount of materials and tools. During the artisanal, independent production of this product you will need:

  • a sheet of plywood or well-dried wood;
  • one sheet of cardboard;
  • varnish (as an alternative, it is fashionable to use paint);
  • PVA;
  • jigsaw (you can use a jigsaw if you have one).

Also during its manufacture you will need a plane for the initial processing of wood and sandpaper of different grain sizes. As an alternative to PVA glue, it is best to use epoxy. To apply paint or varnish you will need a brush. Also during its manufacture you may need a knife and a hacksaw.

The manufacturing process does not take much time and effort. At the initial stage of production, you need to make a sketch of the product, while observing the proportions of its natural size, as well as shapes. To do this, the drawing must be transferred to a sheet of cardboard. The cardboard should be dense and of small thickness.

How does a boomerang work and why does a boomerang come back?

A boomerang is a type of throwing weapon whose history goes back many thousands of years. Initially, people used throwing clubs for hunting, which naturally did not return like the modern boomerang. The Australian Aborigines were the first to modify the throwing club, giving it a curved shape, which they later came to call a boomerang.

A correctly made and launched boomerang always comes back. He does this thanks to physical laws, namely the laws of aerodynamics. The special shape and arrangement of the boomerang blades creates lift in flight, like that of an airplane. During flight, the boomerang spins up to a certain point. The counteracting force effect of the gyroscope makes it so that at a certain moment the boomerang arcs in an arc and returns.

In order for the boomerang to return, it must be launched in a vertical plane and have no obstacles in its path. It is also always necessary to make allowances for wind.

Classic L-shaped boomerang

Material for production: thin plywood.

First, let's prepare a template. Take thick paper and mark it with a square grid with a pitch of 50 mm. In the diagram, the convex side faces the reader. Transfer the contours of the boomerang from the diagram onto the prepared sheet of paper and cut it out. To check the symmetry of the resulting template, bend it along the axis OA. Check that both sides of the boomerang match.

Now glue the template onto the plywood sheet. In this case, the outer layers of plywood must remain perpendicular to the axis OA. Cut the boomerang along the contour with a jigsaw. Please note that finishing should only be done on the side shown in the diagram. Leave a flat surface on the bottom. To ensure that the thickness of the boomerang smoothly transitions from the middle to the edge, use a flat file.

For each section considered in the figure, make a counter-template from tin or thin plywood. Next, use the same flat file (or semicircular) to profile and sand the surface. The edges must be carefully rounded. During the entire procedure, do not forget to constantly compare the profiles of the boomerang sections with the templates in the light.

Why is a boomerang interesting for a survivalist?

Firstly - its unusualness.
The law does not prohibit the manufacture of boomerangs and slings; you can safely train with them anywhere. Boomerang develops coordination and has a good effect on general sports training. In the case of a BP, the boomerang will not be perceived as a weapon, but the kinetics of its impact is very high, precisely because of the angular speed of rotation of the ends of the boomerang.

The ability of the boomerang to return in case of a miss is very convenient when hunting birds. Of course, I mean hunting during survival, and not going out with guns and vodka in normal times.

While flying through a flock of birds or over water, a boomerang can knock down more than one target, the size of a small bird is not so large as to stop it, add to this the return in case of a miss and it becomes clear - if you are more or less proficient with a boomerang, then hunting with It will be more convenient for them than with a bow or crossbow. After all, you have to look for arrows and bolts after a miss, and even if they hit, they tend to break. And the boomerang was wiped with a cloth and ready for battle again! :)

The video below shows the launch of a homemade boomerang that is already 20 years old, and these years it flew on weekends and did not hang on the wall.

And making a boomerang is much easier than a powerful bow or crossbow.
