Crafts for elementary school students

Of course, every craft competition has age categories, because comparing the capabilities of a first-grader and a 7th-grade student is completely pointless.

To make crafts in elementary school with your own hands, you will need the following materials: colored paper, plasticine, cardboard, scissors, toilet paper rolls, natural materials (cones, chestnuts, acorns, maple or ash seeds).

A wide variety of animals and birds can be made from a sleeve using colored paper. The sleeve is the body of an animal or bird. Wings, paws, tails, ears are cut out of colored paper and glued to the sleeve. All that remains is to draw the eyes, nose or beak. The imagination cannot be stopped here: a bear cub, an ostrich, a peacock, a hare, a mouse, a fox and so on.

By combining plasticine and natural materials, you can make an entire forest clearing. The cones make excellent owls, bears, mice, and hedgehogs. You can make insects and mushrooms from acorns. Maple or ash seeds will be used to make flowers, trees, tails or wings.

DIY crafts for school competition

To make a craft with your own hands for a school competition, you first need to come up with a sketch of the product or composition. The originality of the idea, accuracy of production and complexity will be assessed.

The composition always looks much more interesting and attracts more attention.

The basis of the composition can be cardboard or plywood. And then nothing limits the flight of fantasy.

The composition of a house surrounded by vegetation with animal figures looks very original. The house can be made from a round box of chips, an eggplant or even a small stump.

The base of the house is wrapped with hemp rope or pasted over with ice cream sticks or tree branches. Twigs, tree bark, and moss are suitable for the roof. Trees, animals, and plants can be made from natural materials (cones, tree seeds, acorns, juniper twigs, shrub berries).

Figures made from salt dough or papier-mâché go well with natural materials. You can use ready-made figures from the store in the composition. If the craft involves a fence, it can be made from tree branches or ice cream sticks.

Craft from garbage

The topic of ecology is very popular now. And at school there will definitely be an assignment to create crafts from garbage with your own hands.

Anything is suitable to create your masterpiece: egg trays, corks, lids, cocktail straws, paper or plastic cups, candy boxes, etc.

For example, you can make a house from a box, an egg tray and straws. Take a square box from Rafaelo's chocolates or a package from an alarm clock. You need to cut windows and a door in it. You can make a roof out of an egg tray.

The walls of the house and the roof can be decorated with multi-colored cocktail straws. Glue can be used PVA or hot glue. Paste is suitable for gluing paper elements.

Crafts from bottles

A plastic bottle is an inexhaustible source of unusual and creative products.
The easiest way to make a bottle craft with your own hands for school is to paint the bottle with acrylic paints, turning it into any animal or even Santa Claus.

It won't be any more difficult to make an airplane. You can take a bottle of any size - this is the basis of the aircraft. Cut out the wings, tail and propeller from cardboard. Make 2 cuts in the side of the eggplant and insert the wings into them. Glue the tail onto the glue. Place the screw on the neck and screw on the cap.

Christmas balls and decorations

New Year's balls will definitely come in handy on the eve of the holiday. You can hang the balls you made yourself on the Christmas tree at home or give them as a gift to someone. Your loved ones will definitely find a use for them. One option could be a ball of thread.

Materials:

  • balloon;
  • white or red threads;
  • water;
  • PBA glue;
  • acrylic or spray paints;
  • decor: palettes, beads, artificial flowers, rhinestones.

Manufacturing:

  1. The ball needs to be inflated. The diameter can be chosen arbitrarily, focusing on what size the finished ball of thread should be.
  2. Pour PVA glue into a shallow container. It should have the consistency of thick sour cream. If the glue is thicker, you should dilute it with water.
  3. Soak threads made from natural fibers in PVA for 30 minutes so that they swell a little. For convenience, you can cut them into pieces about 1-2 m long.
  4. Wrap the ball with thread. It is better to wind in a chaotic manner. This looks much more interesting. The gaps should not be large. If there are gaps with a diameter of more than 1 cm, you need to make the winding more dense.

  5. When the threads are completely dry, deflate the ball (pierce it), carefully remove it through one of the holes.
  6. Paint the ball with aerosol paints, attach decor in the form of beads, rhinestones or other elements.
  7. Make a loop from thick threads. You can simply fold in several layers the thread that was used to make the ball.

On a note!

It is better not to cover the balls with watercolors and gouache, or you should do this before the ball deflates, since water-based paints soften the threads.

Styrofoam balls decorated with beads look very interesting. You can also use additional elements as decoration.

Materials:

  • foam balls of different diameters;
  • silk pins or any other without a tip;
  • beads;
  • glue;
  • silver or gold threads.

Manufacturing:

  1. On a foam ball, draw lines with a simple pencil along which the rows of beads will run.

  2. Attach the beads using pins to the ball in rows. It's best to use a glue gun and glue to firmly attach the decor to the pins.
  3. Place silver or gold threads between the rows of beads.
  4. Make a loop of thread and attach it to the ball using a glue gun.

On a note!

Ready-made beads attached to a pin are also suitable for this craft, but such material is more expensive.

Craft from recycled materials

Recyclable materials include newspaper, paper or plastic utensils, beverage cans, egg trays, plastic yogurt cups, and cardboard food packaging.

What kind of craft can be made from recycled materials for school? Plastic or paper cups make a great snowman. The cups must be connected to each other to assemble the ball. For a snowman you will need 2 balls. Then the balls are fastened together, a nose, eyes, a headdress, a scarf and other accessories are added as desired.

You can make tubes out of newspapers. And then use it to weave baskets, like from a willow vine. Following your imagination, you can weave not only a basket, but also a cup and saucer, an owl, and a vase.

The finished creation can be painted and varnished. Another way to decorate wickerwork is to make decoupage using paper napkins with a beautiful pattern.

Simple crafts

To make an easy craft for school with your own hands, you can use natural materials. Pumpkin is perfect. To it you need to glue eyes assembled from white and colored cardboard, draw a mouth, add a hat made of paper or sisal.

Glue cones, acorns, flowers, chestnuts, spikelets, tree leaves - whatever is at hand - onto the hat. And the scarecrow's head is ready. Crafts made from bright pumpkins always look attractive.

It's easy to make a Christmas tree from colored paper. To do this, cut a semicircle from a sheet of cardboard and glue a cone. Cut strips of colored paper 8 cm wide in the narrow part into strips 1 cm thick, without cutting to the edge of about 2 cm.

You should get a paper fringe. We glue these fringe strips in a spiral onto the cone using office glue or PVA. You need to start gluing from the bottom and finish at the top of the Christmas tree. You can cut out balls and a star from colored paper to decorate the Christmas tree.
