The tree of happiness or topiary is a fashionable decorative element that you can make with your own hands. It is called the tree of happiness because it attracts happiness and good luck to the house, and decorated with coins it promotes material well-being.
The first examples of topiary trimming of trees were known in ancient times. The word topiary itself comes from Ancient Rome - this was the name given to a person engaged in cutting and maintaining an ornamental garden.
Volumetric tree on the wall
This unique 3D decoration can be made with your own hands on the wall (and even on part of the ceiling) without any problems. To create a real masterpiece, it is not necessary to have the knowledge of a sculptor or artist.
Important: This decor requires a lot of space.
You will need:
- Master OK;
- Bucket;
- Marker and scissors;
- Acrylic paints and brushes;
- Scotch;
- A bag of dry plaster;
- A large sheet of cellophane film.
Progress:
- Let's draw a contour mirror image on the cellophane film with a marker, and when we cut out the drawn middle, we should get a stencil;
- We stick it on the wall with tape;
- Pour water into a bucket and spread the plaster;
- Using a trowel, carefully fill the empty stencil space;
- Remove the film after the mixture has dried;
- We apply several more layers of gypsum, making the last one round;
- When the solution has dried thoroughly, paint the sculpture with acrylic-based paints.
You can choose a wide variety of palettes. A “natural” image would look great in the living room, or a fabulous tree, unusually painted, on the wall in a children’s room.
How to zone space using branches?
As mentioned earlier, ideas for crafts made from branches are not just about small decorations. If desired, you can make tall compositions, with which you can divide the room into several functional zones.
Such crafts can also be used for zoning
To separate the living room from the bedroom, thick and tall branches of bushes are often used, fixing them in holes on a wooden stand. The result is an openwork partition that allows light to pass through and takes part in zoning.

Decorative tree made from branches
To decorate the interior of your home, you can make large artificial trees with flowers.
Necessary materials:
- Hot glue gun;
- Twigs;
- Moss;
- Sea pebbles;
- Square flowerpot;
- Decorative flowers (can be paper);
- A piece of foam.
How to make a decorative tree yourself from ordinary branches:
- We fill the bottom of the flowerpot with sea pebbles and put polystyrene foam on them, and insert the prepared branch into it;
- Sprinkle it again with sea stones for good stability, insert moss on top;
- Now we decorate the branch. To do this, we glue decorative flowers randomly to a branch using a glue gun;
- After completing this procedure, such a decorative craft will rightfully serve as a decoration for your home or apartment.
On the Internet you can find many photos of trees made by yourself, choose the option that suits you and create your own masterpiece based on it.
Tips for needlewomen
- You can cover the wire with the buds with foil before putting on the base.
- Bend the branches as the shape of the tree allows.
- It is possible to make a powerful, thickened trunk using masking tape.
- If you want to depict creeping roots, then dip the cut pieces of bandage in a gypsum solution and wrap them around the tree trunk, and then treat the surface with plaster again.
- In order to create the appearance of an old tree, twisted and wrinkled, scratch the surface of the trunk with a fork onto the mixture that has not yet hardened.
Decorating elements can include stones (glued), decorative moss. In the example photo, see how tree pallets are decorated. The beaded oak tree will now become a gift for someone or a decoration for your interior. We wish you new creations and achievements in your plans!
Bonsai in a pot
We offer another way to easily make an artificial bonsai tree with your own hands. The operating algorithm is simple:
- We select the container. A ceramic flower pot with holes for draining water is ideal.
- Fill the pot with soil. The soil should not be collected from the yard. It’s better not to save money and buy a ready-made mixture at a flower shop. Why is this necessary if the tree is still artificial? We will be growing moss or lawn on top, so good soil is essential.
- For the trunk of a decorative tree, we select a branch that is thick enough and intricately curved to resemble a spreading plant.
- We attach decor to the branches of the wooden frame. It can be made from matte paper, fabric, satin ribbons or any material. The more original the decor, the more spectacular the final result.
- We plant the lawn mixture in the ground and water it generously daily. Very little time will pass, and under the original tree a bright and lush summer lawn will spread out.
By combining natural and synthetic materials, you can achieve unprecedented results in the art of bonsai, turning your favorite hobby into a successful business.

Preparing tree branches for interior use
Before you start creating, you need to prepare the branches and prepare the required number of different wooden fragments. All other actions are aimed at long-term preservation of the composition. The following sequence of actions is suggested:
All selected branches must be free of contamination. Remove any remaining bark and damaged wood.
All wood that was harvested during walks in the park must be inspected for pest infestation. Forethought will not hurt, so treat it with special mixtures in advance.
The time-tested method of impregnation with vegetable oil to which herbs have been added has proven itself well.
After drying, the wood changes size and shape, and has such a feature as deformation. In order to avoid disruption of the composition, the wood material must be dried before production. This process occurs quickly under sunlight with good access to fresh air.
In order to avoid the appearance of fungus on the product, pre-treat the wood with antifungal compounds.
In order for the finished product to have a stunning look, it is better to coat it with varnish. But this process remains at the discretion of the author of the composition.
The tree branches used are taken into the interior composition as they are used in nature, pre-treated with disinfectants. Varnishing adds charm and style.
But the most expressive result is obtained when making a composition painted in one color.
It would be good if it was a contrasting tone to the interior. In this case, it will easily fit into any style. The most widely used colors are white and black, as well as silver and golden colors.
Origami
Cutting out of paper is the easiest way to embody any hero. Use colored paper, pieces of felt, and toy eyes to make the toy more complex and beautiful.
Turn her into a puppet by gluing a popsicle stick on the back: now you can give performances! And if you work hard, you can add moving parts: let the elephant move its trunk, the fox wave its tail, and the cat wash itself with its paw.
Make a craft in the form of a fairy-tale house from a shoebox, decorate and furnish it with furniture cut out of paper. Place Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in it.
Origami will develop accuracy and fine motor skills: start with simple shapes, gradually becoming more complex.
We create bonsai
The tradition of creating bonsai was born in Ancient China more than two thousand years ago. The name “bonsai” is written in two hieroglyphs, which mean “bowl” and “tree”. Later, already in Japan, the unusual method was actively developed and rose to the rank of fine art.
It was the Japanese who brought the method to perfection, creating a special system of canons and proposing rules for exposure. Miniature trees are an aesthetic pleasure for perfectionists.
Many people claim that looking at an elegant bonsai, they are overcome by an extraordinary feeling of calm, tranquility, and anxiety goes away, as if by magic. Decorate the world around you, try your hand at creating amazingly beautiful products.
Do you want to create a luxurious miniature garden at home that does not require special care? Then an interesting master class will help beginners in creating a bonsai tree with their own hands.
Step-by-step instruction:
- We select materials for work. Any gifts of generous nature will be needed: intricately curved twigs, driftwood, juniper, spruce or pine branches, moss, reindeer moss.
- We preserve the branches. For processing, we will prepare a special solution consisting of denatured alcohol, acetone, and glycerin. We take everything in the exact proportion 1:1:2.
Important: The solution for preserving natural materials should be stored in a tightly closed container, as it has a pronounced chemical odor.
- Initially, we wash the branches under cold water, thoroughly cleaning them from dust and dirt, then place them in the solution for at least a week.
- Next, dry the decorative material and paint it if necessary. Let's reveal a little secret: before painting, you need to dip the branches in hot paraffin, the treatment will help to apply the paint evenly to the surface.
- Let's start making a decorative bonsai tree. Cut the branches to the required length and carefully glue each one to the base. To prevent the structure from falling apart, we will wrap the individual elements with wire; after gluing, it can be removed.
- We decorate individual areas with moss, reindeer moss, white sand or decorative pebbles. In our work, we will definitely designate the center of gravity of the structure in order to give the craft greater stability.
After completing the painstaking work, a unique live composition will open to your eyes. An eco-style bonsai will delight the eye for a long time; all that remains is to occasionally brush off the dust from the elegant creation.
How to choose a place for flowerpots?
The most common location for pots is the porch of a house. Planters with lush flowering living decorations will decorate the entrance, emphasizing the architectural style of the house.
The second most popular installation location is occupied by terraces, gazebos, and wells.
For private buildings with a wide blind area, it would be appropriate to place flowerpots along the house - they will emphasize the line of the foundation and make it more contrasting.
When choosing a location, you should follow some tips:
- Oversized forms will look awkward in a small area, just as small pots will get lost in a spacious area.
- When installing flowerpots, their mobility plays a role: portable types should be lightweight, and stationary ones should be positioned in such a way that the plants feel comfortable in them.
- When selecting structures, it is recommended to pay attention to the material of the architecture. For example, tubs are suitable for wooden log houses, while garden flowerpots cast from concrete will be inappropriate.
Satin ribbons
This tree will be a wonderful decoration for a wedding celebration. It's very easy to make. It is enough to show a little patience and imagination. The only difficulty that can arise is making flowers from satin ribbons.
So, to create a topiary you will need:
- About seven meters of satin ribbons.
- Threads, beads, yarn, lace for decoration.
- Glue.
- Wooden stick or plastic pipe.
- Flower pot.
- Crumpled newspaper or papier-mâché.
- Earth, decorative stones, shells.
Progress:
- According to the photo above, flowers are made from ribbons. On average, one topiary will require 15-19 roses.
- Now the crown is made. You can take ready-made papier-mâché, or you can crumple newspaper into a ball shape. The workpiece should be wrapped with yarn for greater density.
- The trunk is made from a branch or plastic pipe. Then it is wrapped with ribbon or decorated with lace.
- Next, using glue, the trunk is glued to the crown of the tree. The bottom of the trunk is placed in a pot and covered with earth and pebbles to make it heavier.
- Using threads, satin roses are sewn to the crown. In order for the flowers to hold more firmly, the workpiece is additionally fixed with glue.
- The pot is decorated with bows, lace and yarn. Flowers should be carefully straightened and, if necessary, decorated with decorative ribbons and rhinestones.
Option #1. Photo frame
To make a frame from branches, you need:
- the branches themselves;
- glue;
- base (you can cut it out of thick cardboard);
- decorative elements.
Heart shaped frame
The algorithm of actions will look something like this. To begin with, one branch is glued along the frame (you can use a hot-melt gun or regular glue), a second one is placed next to it and fixed in the same way. Work continues until the entire base is filled with branches.
Desktop photo frame
Voids, overlaps and corners are decorated with beads, coins, small pebbles, shells, moss, etc.
Another idea for a frame
As a result, you will receive a frame. You can glue a ribbon in the form of a loop to the back side of it to hang the finished craft on the wall.
Mirror frame
Tree with LED garland
The manufacturing process begins with a frame, for which aluminum wire is best suited. It easily bends at any angle, giving the future structure any configuration. A more realistic color is achieved by wrapping the white insulation of the wire with black electrical tape.
- Then, the finished frame is evenly wrapped with a garland, secured to the wire with black electrical tape. If desired, you can create additional decorations for LEDs in the form of decorative nozzles made of transparent plastic. Upon completion of the work, the manufactured tree just needs to be connected to the electrical network and checked for its functionality.
Thus, the question of how to make an LED tree with your own hands can be considered resolved.
- The main advantage of this method is considered to be ease of manufacture. The main disadvantage is the impossibility of producing large-sized wood. This is due to the standard length of the garland, which is not enough to fit on the entire tree. Therefore, this method is most suitable for the manufacture of miniature products, which are also very popular.
How to choose branches to work with?
To make a beautiful craft, you need to choose the right source material. Straight, not very dry branches are most suitable - for example, part of a pine/spruce tree (but it is important that without resin).

Stages of making a seahorse from branches
LED tree
Making a tree from individual LEDs is considered a more labor-intensive process. However, this method does not have the disadvantages inherent in ready-made garlands, which makes it possible to produce structures of any shape and size.
The main material is 5 mm LEDs. To equalize the voltage you will need resistors.
Direct manufacturing begins with soldering resistors to the LEDs. The LED contacts have different lengths, so the resistor legs are pre-shortened on one side. You need to solder the contacts of both elements very quickly so as not to damage the LED.
- Heat shrink tubing is then cut into the wires to cover the solder joints and resistors. It is necessary to leave space for soldering the power wire. The tube is inserted onto the resistor leg and heated a little with a lighter to give the insulation the required shape. This operation is performed with each LED.
- After this, you can begin making the tree itself. Most often, the trunk is made of thin plumbing pipes, and the branches are made of wire, approximately 50 cm long. The main part of the branch takes 45 cm, and 5 cm is left for attaching it to the trunk.
- Small branches are cut into sizes up to 10 cm. The number of LEDs on one branch must be calculated in advance.
- At the next stage, small branches are tied with electrical tape to large branches. It is recommended to make the number of LEDs on each small branch equal to the number of LEDs on the large branch. Each LED is secured using electrical tape.
- The wires need to be stretched along the entire length of the main branches, after which they are cut taking into account the bends of the small branches.
- The ends are wound to the trunk, after which all the pros and cons on each branch are connected. Their number should match the total number of branches. The wire connections are insulated. All that remains is to hang the decorative ornaments evenly and connect the finished tree to the electrical network.
Let's create a "Miracle Tree"
Just like at our gate, a miracle tree grows.
Miracle, miracle, miracle, wonderful miracle!
Not leaves on it, Not flowers on it, But stockings and shoes, Like apples!
(Illustration by Alexey and Olga Drozdov)
Which of us, already adults and people who don’t believe in fairy tales, has not dreamed of such a magical miracle tree?
Or something like this?
(Illustration by Christina Krokus)
Since childhood, we have been attracted to wonderful fairy tales about magical trees - a house tree, an apple tree with plump apples, a fairy-tale oak tree with a scientist cat. The list can be continued endlessly, because there are very, very many fairy tales about trees.
A tree is a part of nature and the surrounding world, and if it is endowed with secret power and magic, it becomes a most interesting object for games for children of all ages.
The hot and lazy summer passes almost unnoticed, towards the end of which I always look forward to the days when the sun becomes soft, homely, when my favorite time comes...
There is a certain premonition that it’s time to start - to start creating magic!
I am pleased to invite everyone to my creative company in search of new adventures and discoveries! We will create an amazing, luxurious, magical textile tree! This is an object of study and a toy for a child, a home amulet, interior decoration, an assistant and a background for your future photo shoots. I have always been close to everything connected with magic - light and warm, fabulous and mysterious. Let's create it together!
The tree is a symbol. A symbol of home, happiness and comfort! A tree is the basis and protection, parental care, well-being, good health and a friendly family! Create your own magic tree! What it will be depends only on you.
Textile wood, with frame and stand. The manufacturing basis is very simple and affordable. The purpose is universal. There will be many, many new interesting technologies and creative discoveries! My imagination is seething and can no longer contain the ideas accumulated over the long summer period of forced rest.
You know, the beginning of a big work evokes pleasant emotions, because I feel that I can tell and show a lot, and therefore teach a large number of readers and masters new techniques that are always needed in different types of creativity. To create magic with our own hands, we do not need magical materials and tools; they become so in the skillful hands of a master. Do not perceive simple materials from your usual point of view, look for the unusual in the ordinary. At first glance, this seems like a difficult and impossible task, but I believe that you will try, and everything that is planned will definitely work out.

Preparing for work
I honestly admit that I have never made textile trees, or any trees at all, but I really love them. Each tree and any plant is endowed with special energy, filled with vitality, and is able to communicate with each other and transmit information.
The tree that you make with your own hands will have the energy that you put into it; your thoughts, feelings and emotions will become part of the mystery of creating the tree. This is one of the reasons why the project has a magical name, but not the only one. What's the point?
I’ll start with the main thing: Goal : to reveal your own creative abilities, which can be fully realized in this type of work, along the way, learning new types of applied creativity, you will gain experience in planning and performing tasks for the manufacture of your product, which will be useful in further work. And now, to an interesting question: what will we do and how?
Basic description: Three-dimensional, realistic tree, supporting structure - a frame made of wire or a simpler material (for beginners). Tree crown, universal, replaceable. There will be a whole series of master classes on making different types of leaves and decorations for trees. Size (approximate) 30-40 cm, depends on your desire. Stand made of thick cardboard, plywood or chipboard (depending on availability).
Application: — interior decoration; - gift option; — educational toy for children over 3 years old; — props for doll and toy photo shoots; - family tree; - home amulet; - a source of our pride.
Approximate work plan: 1) preparing materials and tools for work; 2) production of the supporting structure, frame and working stand; 3) production of trunk and branches;
4) making leaves.
You choose the amount of work and level of difficulty for yourself.
The main goal is to gain new knowledge and enjoy the result!
We are preparing materials and tools to create a stand , a supporting structure - a wire frame, a shell for branches and a trunk. For a working stand, prepare a square piece of thick cardboard, I will use the so-called special cardboard, which is used in shoe repair, it has a dense structure and a decent thickness of 2 mm.
You can use any cardboard, as long as it has sufficient density and thickness to work on the wood. The surface should not be glossy, because you will have to work with glue, and a glossy film will prevent the glue from being absorbed. Why do we need this particular size of stand? Firstly, this is a working option, so that it is convenient to manufacture a rather voluminous structure. Secondly, the stand will also be a working surface on which it is convenient to keep tools and materials, so to speak, “at hand” during the manufacturing process. Thirdly, at the end of the work, you yourself will decide whether to leave the stand of this size or give it a different shape and size, which cardboard will perfectly allow us to do. After this there will be a decorating stage, and here you can already use harder and more durable materials, such as plywood or chipboard. You will also need tools for working with cardboard: pencil, ruler, scissors. The material for making the frame is copper or steel wire. I will use copper wire with a cross-section of 1.2-1.3 mm, you can use a binding wire of a suitable cross-section.
The thickness of the wire cannot have strict restrictions, but it is better to use wire with similar properties. Length approximately 3-4 meters. Prepare padding polyester and transparent glue-gel. I will use Moment glue, a transparent gel for universal use, in a tube. Nylon tights or stockings in 2-3 brown shades, you can use used ones.
Making a base for working on a tree frame
We have a simple job ahead of us, similar to a school lesson on paper crafts. I think you have already asked yourself the question: how will the tree on the wire frame be attached to the base-stand, and now we will find out everything.
The materials and tools you will need are loose cardboard (shoe box, cardboard for crafts, cardboard box (not corrugated), thick sketchbook cover), I used the lid from an old box for acrylic paints, throw it away anyway, the size is small (about 15x15 cm) . Glue gel (transparent and colorless), a little padding polyester, scissors, a small ruler (25 cm), a pencil or pen, a piece of cardboard for a stand 30x30 cm. On a square of cardboard measuring 15x15 cm (I have a lid from an old box) draw a right angle with sides 13-14 cm, using a compass or ruler, draw a quarter circle connecting the lines and cut with scissors. This way we will get a blank for the future foundation of the structure. Cut off the top corner so that the cut line is approximately 1 cm in size. Roll the cardboard piece into a ball with your hands, you need to crumple the edges for better adhesion when gluing.
Apply glue to one side, let the glue dry a little and thicken. Connect the sides of the cone and press the edges tightly together with an overlap of about 1 cm at the bottom and 0.5 at the top. The height of the part is 13.5 cm, the width of the base is 5.5 cm. If you get a little more or less, there’s nothing wrong with that. This work does not require great care, just good adhesion of the edges. In order to glue the cone blank to the stand, use scissors along the edge of the cone to make cuts 1 cm long and the same distance between them.
Bend the slits as shown in the photo. Doesn't it remind you of labor lessons at school? Determine visually or using a ruler the middle of a square piece of cardboard for a stand measuring 30x30 cm. Prepare a small strip of padding polyester 35 cm long, 3-4 cm wide (approximate dimensions). Lubricate the cone itself, the entire surface with glue and cover it with padding polyester.
The cone part should end up in a “cocoon” of padding polyester 0.5 cm thick. Leave the stand to dry for about 1.5-2 hours. To perform the subsequent work, prepare wire, glue, wire cutters or pliers (for working with wire) and padding polyester.
Making a tree frame
The frame of any tree consists of a trunk and branches. Since we have already prepared the base of the trunk, we will continue to work on the frame - we will make branches.
Before you begin, prepare materials and tools, let me remind you what is included in this list: - copper or steel wire 1.2-1.3 mm, it can be thicker or thinner, 3-4 m; - padding polyester; — transparent, colorless adhesive gel; — medical plaster in a roll; - scissors; - tools for working with wire. Let's start with wire blanks from which we will make tree branches. Prepare three pieces of wire measuring 50-60 cm, and exact dimensions are not required here. Fold them in half, forming a kind of loop on the fold, as in the photo. Holding the loop with the fingers of your left hand, begin to fold the ends with your right hand. In this way, we twist the pieces of wire almost to the end, leaving 2-3 cm at the end. We cut off the loop, it is no longer needed.
You should get three almost equal segments, with identical “forks” at the end. You may need more than 10 such blanks, the number depends on the branching of your tree.
Now you can start assembling the frame. Prepare a medical plaster in a roll. Take the largest piece and connect it to the top of the cardboard cone with a “fork” to the trunk using adhesive tape. Lubricate the entire piece of wire generously with glue and wrap it with a thin layer of padding polyester to create a small volume. Lubricate the junction of the branch with the main frame with glue and wrap it with padding polyester to create a smooth transition.
Attach two more branches on both sides using adhesive tape, slightly below the first segment. Coat the branches with glue and wrap them with padding polyester, as described above. Cover the joint with padding polyester and glue for a smooth transition. The result is a structure similar in shape to a tree, but this is not enough for us. Make a few more blanks of wire branches, you can make them of different lengths, for the experiment, I even made them a little longer than the first three, because at any time the excess can be cut off. Add two or three branches at a time, secure with adhesive tape and repeat all the wrapping operations with glue and padding polyester. Do not forget that each next “step” of branches should be visually lower than the previous one, but the number of branches and their length remains at the mercy of your imagination. At first I came up with five main branches, I decided to think a little, and after some thought I added two more. During the process of making the tree, we will add two or three thin branches to each of the main branches, so take this point into account when working.
Let's do some truly magical work. Our tree will begin to “come to life”. His character and mood will be determined, because we begin to work on the form. This is an exciting activity, you can even call it a game. If you work as a team, it will be even more interesting. You need to bend the wire branches, giving them a bizarre shape.
The length of the branches did not change, that is, the lower tier of branches remained significantly longer than the upper. When you have no doubts left - this is the form that “fell in your soul” and you don’t want to change anything else, then the stage of crown formation is completed, we begin to consolidate. The consolidation stage is also the stage of final formation. The work will give the tree the necessary solidity and volume. Add padding polyester with glue to the junction of the branches and the trunk.
In the same way, we create smooth transitions between the branches and the trunk so that the shape becomes “fluid”, without sharp corners and depressions. As a result, the branches will take on a more natural shape; if necessary, add volume to the tree trunk.
Be patient and let the entire structure dry thoroughly. Let me distract you for now with an interesting master class on making twigs.
Branches are a necessary addition to the tree frame. Let's start making them. If you have a wire a little thinner than the one you used to make the branches, use it; if not, then we will use the same one. I found a small coil of copper wire 1 mm thick. It is necessary to make about ten branches. The size is uneven and varies from 10-15 cm. The manufacturing principle remains the same as when making large branches. We cut off the unnecessary loops with a special tool for working with wire.
Now you need to turn the wire branches into real ones. At this stage, nylon tights will come in handy. You choose the color yourself, I chose the middle one among three brown shades. We cut ten strips of nylon 1.5-2 cm wide, one and a half times longer than the wire piece. Take one of the blanks and coat it with glue, I did this operation without using additional tools, a brush or a stack, I squeezed out a thin strip from a tube of glue on both sides of the “twig”. Give the glue time to thicken a little, take a strip of nylon and start wrapping it in a spiral from the end of the branch towards the base. Try to carefully hide the edge of the strip at the end under the next turn.
After about an hour of leisurely work...
We continue to work on the tree. We prepare materials and tools for work :
Materials: Nylon tights in 2-3 brown shades, prepared twigs and the tree frame itself on a stand. Tools you will need: scissors, a ruler, transparent glue-gel, medical plaster in a roll, any size. First you need to secure the small branches to the larger branches. We use a medical plaster for temporary fixation. I attached the shortest branches closer to the center, the longer ones, the closer to the edge.
When all the branches are in the right places, we secure them more securely with a strip of padding polyester with glue. Lubricate the joints with glue and carefully wrap them with a thin strip of padding polyester; if glue seems insufficient, add more during the wrapping process.
As soon as all the branches are securely fastened with strips of sitnepon with glue, we begin the process of “dressing” the tree in bark. Cut the nylon tights into thin strips 2-3 cm wide and 30-40 cm long, these are the sizes I used, you can make strips of the width and length that you consider more suitable for your work.
We take three strips of different shades, smear a few centimeters of glue near the base of the trunk, let the glue thicken and glue the edges of the strips. We stretch the strips obliquely to the branch opposite the place where the base of the strips is attached; first coat the branch and part of the trunk with glue. Carefully spirally wind the strips onto the branch until the very end; if there is excess nylon left, cut it off. We stretch the strips obliquely to the branch opposite the place where the base of the strips is attached; first coat the branch and part of the trunk with glue. Carefully spirally wind the strips onto the branch until the very end; if there is excess nylon left, cut it off. We continue to work. We take three more strips, glue them next to the previous ones and repeat the operation with the next branch. We close the empty spaces between the branches with pieces of nylon.
If there is no free space left near the base of the trunk, and there are still unwrapped branches, then wrap the branch from its base or, conversely, from end to base. In this type of decoration, you must rely on your taste and intuition. The work does not require rush. Step away for a while, often, so that you can look with fresh eyes. When all free spaces are covered with nylon strips, leave the work to dry thoroughly for at least 2-3 hours. We look for imperfections and gaps and prepare to continue work.
Attachments for removable crown
I want to surprise you, and I’ll probably succeed today! Have you ever sewed buttons to wood? Today we will do this interesting activity! Ask me, what are buttons for? This will be a fixture for the future Magic Tree wardrobe. Over time, you can create a whole collection of fabulously magical clothes for the tree. You or your child will create the mood for your creation by dressing and re-dressing it. In the meantime, let's sew on the buttons... What do we need for this and how to do it. Let's look at the photo.
I found golden buttons on the legs in my “bins”. It is advisable to use buttons specifically on the stem, so that when attaching the leaves there is a margin for the thickness of the material (just in case). The color of the buttons is not important; we will then paint them the color of the wood to make them invisible. You need strong threads, preferably nylon or nylon, a good sewing needle for handmade work, and scissors. Your tree is ready to go, let's get started. At the end of each branch, sew one button, make several stitches with double thread so that the button is securely fastened. If you want to make the crown more luxuriant, add a few buttons along the edges of the branches in the right places, but do not make too many of them, it will be inconvenient to change the tree into different leaves. I sewed just one button in the middle of the branch, which seemed empty to me.
Take acrylic paints, mix colors to match the color of your wood, or just use brown paint. Using a brush, carefully paint the buttons and joints.
The construction of the frame, branches and fastenings for the crown is completed. Our Magic Tree is ready to be dressed in a lush, beautiful crown of leaves and other materials.
Autumn is coming, and of course I wanted to dress the miracle tree in accordance with the season, the most beautiful time of the year for trees. In autumn, in the forest or in nature, we find ourselves in a fairy tale, a riot of colors, play of shades of red, yellow, orange. There are rich burgundy colors, gold and platinum colors, lilac and green shades. In general, there is room for the imagination of the creator and master to run wild. Therefore, I chose beautiful scraps of harmoniously matching colors for the leaves, came up with and cut out a leaf pattern from cardboard and cut out the blanks. Various types of fabrics, mainly rayon and light dress fabrics. To increase rigidity, it is necessary to soak the fabric in a solution of gelatin or starch and iron it. There are many workshops on fabric processing.
We select leaves by color in groups of 3-4 pieces.
Iron one or two leaves in a group in half lengthwise to create an interesting composition.
This way we create bunches of leaves.
In the middle of each leaf we glue a thin satin ribbon or braid; the material must be dense and elastic so that the “stalks” of the leaves keep their shape, so the ribbon or braid must be prepared in advance.
The work is, of course, painstaking, but the result will undoubtedly reward you for your efforts.
We twist all the stems into one common one, as shown in the photo, and stitch them with thread in the color of the fabric.
We form a loop for attaching to a branch. I tried to try it on...
I didn’t like it, it lacks the pomp and effect of a thick crown. I added loops on the sides of another bunch of leaves, but without a ribbon, to speed up the process.
Let's try it on.
Already better. Only here the effect of zooming in when shooting worked, so the leaves seem larger than they really are. I think you have already guessed that there is a lot of work to be done, quite painstaking, but very creative and not boring. I looked at my supply of leaves with doubt - most likely there wouldn’t be enough, and this was unpleasant, but fixable. So I can give advice to those who dream of a lush crown - stock up on leaves.
And now, the stand! If our tree is complex and magical, then the stand should become a worthy decoration and addition to your tree. While we have a standard size of 30x30 cm made of cardboard, we need to remove the excess and give it a beautiful, unusual shape. A square and a circle would be too simple and primitive, so I propose a diagram of four types of stand shapes.
I will be very glad if your imagination suggests the shape of the stand, but before starting work, please read to the end. This is what my creative flight to come up with the shape of the stand looked like
At first, I drew smooth lines with a simple ballpoint pen and intuitively found the right directions and connections. Then I drew a refined shape with a felt-tip pen and cut it out with scissors (I don’t know how to use a paper cutter).
Already something! Is not it? Make another form of cardboard stand - a twin of the previous one. We will use this form to decorate the work stand; we will glue it on top, but in an unusual way. Why do we need another layer of cardboard on top?
Firstly , to compact and strengthen the stand, and give it a more solid thickness. Secondly the tree, where uneven edges and glue streaks are visible. We will assemble the upper form from two parts, like a primitive puzzle. Draw a line so that the most concave part fits closely to the tree trunk; this can be done simply with the help of a ruler.
Cut into two parts, and place the larger one on a stand with wood.
One piece of the “puzzle” is ready!
Let's start making the second part. Measure the distance with a ruler from the edge of the mold to the barrel, measure this distance on another part to determine the location for the barrel. Draw an approximate circle for the trunk, let it be slightly smaller than expected.
Cut with scissors or a special knife. Let's try it on.
If everything is fine and you are satisfied with everything, grease the parts with PVA glue, let it thicken a little and glue the two forms together, it is better to press down with some weight and leave for several hours for complete gluing.
Use scissors to smooth out the uneven edges; the two shapes should match almost perfectly. The next step is to paint the base coat with white acrylic paint. I had enamel, but it is better to use ordinary, white, construction enamel for walls and ceilings.
Let the paint dry, two hours is enough. And we proceed to the next stage - decoration. We will turn an ordinary stand into a magical one! I propose dividing the stand into sectors, which will be painted in related shades. The color depends on the wood and your imagination. I will have shades of gold, silver, lilac, gray. The sectors look something like this.
The shape of the design looks like a half-opened bud, smooth lines reminiscent of waves or petals, something mysterious and magical. But the choice is yours, if you come up with your own design or want to decorate further without it, this is your right, the right of the artist and creator. Decorating the stand did not take me much time at all, a little over two hours. For the work you will need beads and beads of different sizes, shades are preferable to soft colors, white, brown, pearl, these are the colors that I used in my work.
The materials you will need are: transparent adhesive gel, gouache or acrylic paints, brushes, colorless varnish, and this skein of string, which is sold in hardware stores for plumbing work, can be replaced with thick yarn or threads.
Let's get to work. Using a regular blue pen, I divided the stand into sectors and painted it with gouache paints of related shades that matched the color of the wood.
First, I covered the entire stand with uniform colors, then I decided to add smooth color shades to make the overall composition look more harmonious. An interesting effect was achieved due to the surface on which the paint layer was applied. The first white, like a primer layer, was white acrylic enamel, and when a paint layer of gouache was applied on top, it created a kind of artistic effect, which in the end I really liked. Next, glue the outline along the lines and glue the rope.
For decoration you will need beads and small beads. Where my intuition and sense of taste told me, I smeared it with glue and sprinkled it a little chaotically with beads and seed beads in white and golden shades.
I painted the sides of the stand and the rope with golden gouache and covered the entire stand with colorless varnish.
And here is the result of the work.
Since our crown is removable, depending on the season or mood, you can make another crown from leaves of a different shape or color. You can play with your child in a miracle tree, on the branches of which small toys or treats will be hung. Birds or fairy-tale elves can be placed in the branches of the tree. And if you liked the process of creating the tree itself, you can “grow” an entire fairytale forest!
Happy creativity and lots of inspiration!
Making your own wood for the street
When making wood with LEDs for outdoor use, you must take into account the aggressive influence of the environment. Therefore, before you start making an LED tree for the street with your own hands, you need to determine the entire procedure in advance.
The general scheme of work will be approximately the same as for conventional structures intended for indoors. In the outdoor version, it is recommended to pay attention to a more thorough coating of the trunk and branches with high-quality materials.
It is also necessary to take care of good insulation of the LEDs after soldering them with resistors.
The heat shrink tubing should completely cover each pair. If necessary, all unreliable areas can be additionally insulated with black electrical tape. The same goes for wire connections in the plus and minus areas. Decorative items should be secured more efficiently so that they are not torn off by strong gusts of wind.
Storage rules
If you do crafts regularly, i.e. it has become your hobby, then learn how to properly store the workpieces. Pack the branches selected in accordance with the requirements listed above into containers and keep them in some cool place (in the basement, for example, or in the refrigerator). If they dry out during storage, you can moisten them a little with water.
DIY crafts from branches
After preparing the source material, you can begin to fantasize.
Basis for a wreath of branches
How and from what to create?
- Drawing is the most original method; it does not require serious expenses. In this case, it is not necessary to contact an artist, just be patient, buy paints and go ahead. Don’t be upset if the outline of the drawing is not the smoothest, nature is diverse and there are no perfectly straight trees. For greater confidence, you can use a stencil.
- Applique is also an excellent option for applying a design. You can use various papers, preferably thicker ones (wallpaper, cardboard). Sometimes there are a lot of boxes left over from things, or several rolls of wallpaper after renovation, all of which can be used.
The idea can also be implemented using more rigid materials, such as gypsum, polystyrene foam, various wooden coverings (fibreboard, chipboard). This will require ingenuity and the ability to work with material.
You can use natural tree branches. For this you will need good technical glue, and the tree branches themselves. Before fastening, it is necessary to treat the tree branches so that they can last longer. This technique enhances the natural effect in the room. It can be combined with patterns and appliques.
- Sgraffito is a more complex decoration option; it can be used when the apartment is being renovated. It involves applying several layers of paint or other coating to the surface, followed by cutting out the design. The result is very attractive, it gives volume to the room and a unique visual effect. It can be applied to rooms that do not use wallpaper.
How to imitate a decorative tree? Various fabrics can be used. Any covering will be useful - burlap, linen fabric. This technique is popular and will add unusualness to the picture.
How to prepare branches?
To create a durable and beautiful product, you need to know about the proper preparation of branches for work. The following steps are required!
Table. Stages of preparing branches.
Name, photo | Short description |
If the branches are not dried, the craft will warp. Drying should last from 10 to 14 days (if the temperature is room temperature) or a week (if you put the branches on the radiator). There is another option for those who are especially impatient - use the oven. In this case, a few hours at a minimum temperature will be enough. | |
To prevent insects from appearing on the craft, the branches are disinfected with a weak solution of potassium permanganate before starting work. |
Craft - a fence made of branches
The appearance of the craft can be improved by applying varnish or paint. Moreover, the processing can be carried out both at the beginning of the process and with the finished product.

Option #5. Branches for bouquet decoration
Floral arrangements always evoke special admiration. And there is nothing surprising in this, since each such composition is unique. Let's look at how to decorate a bouquet in an original way using branches.
Stylish bouquet decoration with branches
To work you will need:
- the branches themselves (including those with leaves);
- decorative tape;
- flowers;
- pruner;
- wire cutters;
- decorative wire.
What you need for work
Step 1. First of all, the branches are cut - they should ultimately have the same length. Then a couple of pieces of wire (also the same length) are cut and folded in half. A stick is placed between the pieces of wire; one turn must be made on each side. This way it will be securely fixed.
The sticks are fixed with wire
Step 2. The remaining sticks are added one by one.
Forming a path from sticks
Step 3. The ends of the wire are securely fixed. The result will be a kind of path made of sticks.
Ready-made path made of sticks
Step 4. The finished path is laid on the table, branches with leaves and flowers are evenly distributed on it (as in the image below). The distance between them should be small. After this, the track curls, but not very tightly.
Distribute flowers and twigs with leaves evenly
Step 5. The ends of the track are connected using a small piece of decorative wire.
Step 6. The composition thus obtained is decorated with a bright satin ribbon.

How to grow a miniature oak?
Determine where the oak tree will grow. Choose a wide container with a shallow depth (3–50 cm). When the tree begins to grow, it is transplanted into a larger pot. Avoid plastic; the best choice would be fireclay or ceramics. Place drainage at the bottom.
Peculiarity! Transplantation is carried out in the spring every 2-4 years. The need for this is determined by the roots: if they have filled the pot, the tree needs a new place.
How to do root pruning?
Remove long roots with pruning shears. Trim thick superficial roots at an angle. The beveled ends look organic at ground level. Carry out pruning when replanting - once every 2-4 years. Remove grown roots, leaving small to medium roots 10-15 cm long.
Formation
In the second year of life, when the oak tree has grown, it is given the desired shape. The procedure is carried out in early spring or autumn, when it has dropped its leaves. Cut off any excess branches with pruning shears, bend the remaining ones with wire.
Formation rules:
- Think about how the bonsai should look, make a sketch, and be guided by it as you work. Use a vertical or slanted style. Curved, grotesque shapes are not suitable for oak. Buy clamps, flexible copper wire.
- Proceed to wrapping the trunk and branches. Pull the wire from bottom to top in a spiral.
- Secure the end with a fork in the place where the branch grows from. Make one turn around the trunk, then wind the wire parallel, around the branch towards the tip. Bend the edge of the wire down.
- Prevent damage to the bark by placing strips of rubber or fabric under the wire.
- To set the position of the branch to the left, wind clockwise, to the right - vice versa.
- When bending, proceed carefully, work with both hands, keeping your thumbs on the inside.
- Secure branches that are designed to be more bent with clamps.
- Work until the entire bonsai is covered.
The wire structure is designed for a period of 1 month to six months. Control it otherwise it will damage the developing bark of the plant. When the desired shape has been achieved, leave the oak for 2 years. If you remove the structure earlier, it will return to its previous position.
Important! From the end of February to the beginning of spring, trim large branches and shoots in accordance with the designed sketch. Do this annually. Remove young shoots at any time.
Fertilizer
Use organic and special fertilizers. They will help strengthen the standard, it will be thicker. Frequency – once a month. Don't fertilize too often. The plant will give an unacceptable effect: it will stretch, create large internodes, and large foliage.
Beading
Working with this technique is not easy, but let’s try to figure it out and describe all the work step by step. To make a winter tree from beads, you will need the following materials:
- wire;
- white and brown threads;
- base for wood (you can use a wooden cane);
- ruler;
- beads;
- wire cutters;
- flower pot;
- gypsum or alabaster, if the tree is going to be potted.
New Year decoration
Cover the branches with silver or white paint and leave to dry in a vertical position. They can be stuck into polystyrene foam, a pot of soil, or a flowerpot filled with newspapers. You can leave the Christmas tree you made from branches with your own hands there or transfer it to another suitable base.
Styrofoam, soil or newspapers will not look very festive. Cover them with cotton wool, sisal, artificial snow or other material.
Decorate the tree. Beads, Christmas balls, and garlands with small light bulbs will look best on painted crafts. If you want a more modern and uncluttered option, then sew cute birds, stars, hearts or triangles on eyelets. Eco-design would also be appropriate. Just paint pine cones, ranetkas or bunches of rowan in the color of the tree and hang them on the branches.
A decorated Christmas tree in the house is always a symbol of the holiday, New Year's miracles, and the fulfillment of cherished desires. You can approach the solution of the problem creatively by making an original decoration with your own hands. We offer unusual variations on the theme of creating elegant Christmas trees.
Cone trees
Even a child can make such crafts. Creating a whole forest of bright and cheerful Christmas trees will be real fun, an exciting creative process that you can do on a winter evening with the whole family. For work, we will take thick paper, a roll of colored corrugated paper, glue, pencil, scissors.
Everything is done simply:
- Let's roll a cone out of cardboard. The formula is this: the size of the cone, the height of the beautiful Christmas tree.
- We cut out two triangles from corrugated paper, the size of which is equal to the height and width of the base, and glue them.
- We cut out a circle from cardboard, its diameter is equal to the base of the cone, we paste it with corrugated paper on top, making an edge larger in diameter.
- We insert a stick-trunk inside the cone and glue the base. We wrap a small piece of flexible wire with paper of the same color and attach the element to the top.
- Let's get to the most creative part - decorating. We decorate our Christmas tree to our liking. You can use beads, appliqué, satin or packaging ribbons, New Year's tinsel and anything your imagination suggests.
- Let's bend the top in a whimsical way and hang an elegant Christmas tree decoration on it.
- We are preparing the stand. From the remaining cardboard we roll a ring, cut out a stand, fill it with plaster mortar and “plant” the Christmas tree.
After the solution has hardened, we wrap the stand with beautiful paper or burlap and place miniature gift boxes under the Christmas tree. Original holiday decor is ready to decorate the interior of your home.
Master class on creating a Christmas tree
Today, many are trying to move away from the classic version - elegant natural pine or spruce, decorated with balls and sparkling tinsel. Do you want to decorate your room in a new way for the New Year holiday? We offer a very unconventional, but incredibly stylish wall decor made of wood.
For our installation we will need several branches of approximately the same thickness, which must first be cleared of bark. You will also need a garland, a star, which can be made in advance from a vine or willow branches with your own hands, as well as a strong rope. Assembling the installation:
- Let's prepare the sticks that will become the crown of the tree. They should be of different sizes, gradually decreasing from the longest to the shortest.
- We tie all the elements one by one with a rope, like a ladder, fastening the ends of the sticks together. The result should be a pyramid-shaped figure.
- We leave a loop on top of the structure, which is convenient for hanging the Christmas tree from a wall or door. We'll wrap it with a garland and attach a star on top.
A stylish installation in eco-style will appeal to everyone who looks at the world creatively. In addition, it does not “steal” precious meters in the room, but no less brightly complements the New Year’s interior.
Creative eco-Christmas tree
Stage 5: making a hut on chicken legs
Step 1. As the basis for the craft - a hut, we take a box of suitable size. We took half a box of medicine.
Step 2. Make 2 holes in the box, bend the box into an arc and insert 5 wires down the box.
Step 3. We twist the wire, forming 2 legs of the hut from it. To do this, we shorten 4 wires to fit the toes of the chicken legs of the hut, and leave the fifth wire long, since it is needed to attach the hut to the base.
Step 4. Cut the skewers and glue them with a glue gun, imitating a log house. We glue the roof separately.
Step 5. The hut can be slightly tinted with paints.
Step 6. Attach the hut to the base of the craft, piercing it right through along with the grass. We fix the wire at the bottom of the base, bending it in the same way as we previously attached green oak to the base.
Step 7. We make bushes around the hut. To do this, we glue dried herbs - oregano and yarrow - with hot glue to the base next to the hut.
So our craft “Near Lukomorye has a green oak tree” is ready! It turned out truly fabulous and amazing!

Snow tree made of gray-blue beads
A combination of New Year's balls (or large beads) with fresh or artificial flowers looks very good on a winter tree. Gather branches or pine paws into a bundle and secure it to the base. Decorate the tree with flowers on top and beads around and below. Just place them not in straight lines, but in waves.
When you decorate a tree with Christmas balls, remember one thing. They should be the same color, but different sizes. Or, on the contrary, take balls of the same size, but different in shades. At the top, randomly spread some silver threads or rain. This way, the compositions you make from tree branches with your own hands will look harmonious.
It will be very cool if you make two of these crafts and place them on either side of the TV. Watching New Year's films will become even more fun and interesting. And most importantly, a festive mood will appear.
It is not necessary to make trees; you can make small compositions from twigs. They will look just as good on a dining table or chest of drawers. Take baskets, decorate them with twigs, spruce legs, cones and bunches of viburnum. Place them in all rooms, and every corner of the house will feel like a holiday.
You can make crafts from tree branches in the form of a topiary with your own hands. The New Year's version will look good with tangerines. You can take both real and artificial fruits.
Prepare materials: fruit, beautifully curved branches, linen or jute rope, wire, flower pot, floral sponge or polystyrene foam, mistletoe or spruce branches, leaves, glue, artificial snow (crushed polystyrene foam), knife.
Wrap the fruit with a rope crosswise, securing a piece of wire in parallel.
Lubricate spruce branches with glue and dip them in artificial snow. From a floral sponge or polystyrene foam, cut out a base that will fit in the pot. Secure the branches in it well so that they do not dangle. Tie the tangerines to the tree, starting from the bottom. Don't forget to hold the fruits together. Decorate the pot with spruce branches and tangerines with leaves.
Dimensions and quantity
How do you determine the size of snowflakes needed for a particular tree? First you need to figure out where the branches will start and how wide they will be. It is necessary to measure the distance from the mark to the top of the barrel. Every 1-2 cm, depending on the desired volume of the tree, paper branches will be placed.
The estimated dimensions of a series of squares can be as follows: from 5 to 1.5 cm. The difference between them should be from 1 to 0.5 cm. It is important to determine the width of the base snowflake, and from there follow the path of reducing the size. It is important to make sure that the snowflake blanks are square in shape. To do this, you need to fold them in four and trim off the excess after the second fold.
Craft “Green oak near Lukomorye”
The craft “Green Oak Near Lukomorye” is a three-dimensional composition based on the famous lines of A.S. Pushkin, which can be done together with children from six to seven years old and older. Various techniques for working with materials are used in its production. Having mastered them in making this craft, in the future you will be able to apply them in other subjects of your creative works.
The author of the master class is Elena, a mother of two sons, a reader of “Native Path”, a participant in the “Autumn Workshop” competition, and her son Dima.
Another winter tree option
In this case, you will need slightly different materials:
- twigs;
- Styrofoam;
- glue;
- rope;
- vase.
Tie the collected rods together and form a tree. Crumble the foam by hand or grate it using a grater. Dip the branches in glue, remove excess.
Now sprinkle the crumbled foam on top of the craft. Do this until you achieve the desired result. Place the tree in a vase and decorate with toys.
