Table top made of beer caps. Decorating the bar counter.

/Accessories and decor/Decoration/

Plastic or tin lids are a super versatile material for making home decorations, children's crafts and even garden furniture. In this article, we presented 120 inspiring photos and 12 cool ideas for “deco-upcycling” caps from plastic and glass bottles with tips and master classes.

Idea 1. Placemats (+ master class)

Let's start with practice and tell you how to make these cute coasters for glasses from ordinary plastic lids.

Materials and tools:

  • Lids from plastic bottles (for one cup holder you will need 7 lids, and to make a large stand you will need 28 lids);
  • Fabric in two shades of pink, as well as a piece of fabric in orange or coral color;
  • Any glass, jar or lid, with a diameter of about 7 mm;
  • Pencil;
  • Needle and thread;
  • Scissors.

Instructions:

Step 1. On the existing scraps of fabric, draw 7 circles, tracing the outline of the tin lid, and then cut them out.

Step 2. Now we need to cover each cap with fabric. This is done simply: run large stitches along the entire circumference of the patch, place the lid in the center of the workpiece, then pull the thread and secure the resulting “cover” with a couple of stitches.

Step 3: Now connect all the caps one by one to form a chain. Please note that the connecting seams should be as invisible as possible. Next, roll the resulting chain into a flower (pictured) and secure it by sweeping all the parts together. Hurray, the first cup holder made from lids is ready!

Step 4. If you want to make a teapot stand, then you just need to connect 4 cup holders to each other.

Coasters for glasses made of beer corks and epoxy resin poured into a mold

Table top made of beer caps. Decorating the bar counter.

When in the family, the father was very fond of beer and drank almost his entire salary, but one fine day he decided to take charge of himself and switch to more sensible drinks. I handed over all the glass containers I had accumulated over decades and used the proceeds to buy a motorcycle and plywood - materials, so to speak, for my new bar table. The tight-fisted old man didn’t throw away the remaining bottle caps either, and in the end, he decided to use them as a finishing material. I planned to cover my new bar table with them, where it would be so pleasant and nostalgic to sip a delicious homemade liqueur, remembering my naive beer-loving youth. And he even calculated the space for the apparatus, hiding it under such a wonderful tabletop.

This could be true, but how it really happened, who knows, this is purely my imagination. In fact, these photos that I pulled from the network are going viral without any accompanying text. And it’s boring to just drag around pictures to yourself, so I stuck this nonsense here. The news is cliché, but very funny, and therefore - here it is for you, get it. Look at the photos and envy how people live.

That means he sawed off the plywood and put together such an engineered structure. Like something like a base for a table top.

I painted it with some kind of black muck, I suspect it was pitch varnish from Soviet reserves. It smells terrible.

I stuck it in place, covering my device from prying eyes, that is.

I took out my cork stash, collected over ten years of drinking. How long did it take for him to drink tons of beer? How are the kidneys? Giroy! He must have a crazy savings discount, otherwise how many new cars has he spent during this time?

I called my buddies and drinking buddies to lay out the corks.

That's the pipsicola in the photo, boobies! Do you see how it bubbles up?

But dad is an artist at heart, and the buddies know how to put caps on, and sort them out by year, color and historical events, because then how can you be nostalgic if the chronology of drinking on the tabletop is disrupted. So to speak, preserve the line of existence. But the sidekick doesn’t know, so he connected his growing heritage, let him, so to speak, adopt his father’s experience.

The son and daughter, the children of their father, bravely coped with the responsible task. Dad is happy, the good shift is growing.

Inflate the bass and place it evenly, a sharp eye is needed here. The old man was just finishing up his next round, while he was making a new table for himself, and his eyes were gray, like a laser sight. Everything was laid out exactly, on time.

It remains for Taperich to secure everything somehow, otherwise it’s not convenient, the cursed ones move without glue. The old man thought hard, inserted a 0.5 minirail, and decided to fill it all with ipoxide. Not cheap, but very cheerful.

In short, he sent his descendants to a handicraft store, gave them a bit of currency left over from beer labels, which the greedy father cunningly washed off from the bottles in advance before putting them in glass containers. A real business executive! I took these pieces of paper for a flea and handed them over to collectors. I took a lot of currency back then. Who knew that these weirdos would call ten-year-old labels a rarity, but my dad knew. Wise dad!

The kids ran to the art store and brought back 16 boxes of bottles of transparent epoxy. Her dad loosened it in a jar, he has an experienced eye, he measures grams by squinting. And he filled all the plugs in the table in one fell swoop.

After it had all dried, he breathed his fresh spirit onto the table and polished the surface to a shine with his socks.

Now dad has a new table. Master dad! You can also quack the liqueurs...

I took the photos from here: zabort.ru, but I missed this story myself. Try whoever wants, but the exile here led!

Idea 6. Magnets

These crafts are made from baby food jar lids.

Kitchen apron made of corks

An unusual interior element in the form of a kitchen apron can be made from wine corks.

Of course, it will take more than 1000 corks to completely assemble it, measuring 2.4 meters long by a meter high. But such an apron looks very impressive and quite unusual.

In order to lay corks on a wall without a gap, it is initially covered with dark paint. Corks that are laid out in a checkerboard pattern look best. Yes, it's a more labor-intensive process, but it's worth it.

Idea 8. Furniture items

Almost any piece of furniture can be covered with tin lids.

Plastic covers can make excellent garden chairs, tables, and benches.

You can even make storage boxes from plastic lids.

Idea 9. Serving tray

Decorating a boring serving tray with lids is very simple: carefully place all the corks on the bottom, then fill them with a layer of epoxy resin and leave the craft to dry for at least a day. The main thing here is to mix the resin with the hardener according to the manufacturer's instructions (to the nearest gram!) and pour it slowly, avoiding the formation of bubbles. If you want a perfectly transparent resin layer, use liquid epoxy resin for decorative rather than construction purposes.

Idea 10. Door curtain

If you have accumulated a lot of plastic covers, you can “sew” them into a door curtain for your cottage. The easiest way is to string caps of different sizes and colors on threads in a chaotic order (see photo).

If you want the curtain to have a pattern, then you need to search the Internet for patterns for making curtains from beads.

What can be made from wine corks

Crafts made from plastic corks are now in many ways inferior to those made from wine corks. They are more valued because they are made from natural materials, look more beautiful and, moreover, can even be beneficial. A large number of traffic jams can be used for:

  • A coaster for hot food or napkins, a cup holder;
  • Rug;
  • A panel or painting on the wall;
  • Keychain;
  • Curtain or curtain for a window or doorway;
  • Candlestick;
  • Decorative serving tray;
  • Small pots for indoor plants;
  • Some even manage to make furniture out of them.

Idea 11. Wall clock

Both tin and plastic covers can replace the numbers on a wall clock. All you need is a clock mechanism (can be removed from an old clock), a base, 12 caps and our step-by-step instructions on how to make your own clock.

Here are some photo examples of what a homemade clock made from lids can look like.

Homemade cork mat

Often a rug is chosen for crafts made from wine corks. It turns out not only beautiful, but also useful, providing a massage effect. Such a rug will be resistant to bacteria, germs, will not mold and will not cause allergies.

To create a rug you will need:

  • The base where the plugs will be glued;
  • Corks in the amount of 175 pieces;
  • Glue;
  • Knife or cutter.

Progress:
  1. Each cork must be cut in half. The photo of crafts made from corks shows that this is quite labor-intensive and time-consuming work that will require not only accuracy, but also patience;
  2. Now each cork needs to be glued to the base. You can first cut out the required size according to the number of plugs, or you can first glue everything on, and only then cut off the excess part of the base;
  3. The rug is finished. It can be used quietly in the bathroom.
