How to refill a gas lighter: the simplest step-by-step instructions

Everyone has heard about zippo brand products; they have gained popularity due to their high quality and reliability. The Zippo model range is filled with different designs; even the most picky buyer will be able to find something he likes. The zippo lighter runs on gasoline, so owners periodically have to refuel the device. Its body is made of metal, some models are made of brass and precious alloys. The flame is protected from the wind. The fuel in the device gradually runs out as it is used and there comes a time when refueling is necessary. But not every user knows how to refill a lighter correctly. To do this, we have written step-by-step instructions that describe the action plan in detail.

How to refill a gasoline lighter

Its design is much simpler than gas. They are reliable, durable and safe when used correctly. The operating principle is based on the friction of flint on a wheel. How to refill a lighter with gasoline at home? Before starting work, it is important that there are no fuel residues left in the container. Be sure to follow safety rules and carry out all manipulations away from flame sources. Try not to get gasoline on your clothes or body. How to refill a zippo lighter? Step-by-step instructions:

  • make sure that the housing is sealed and that fuel does not leak from the device;
  • open the lid, then remove the mechanism for a while;
  • move the felt, while turning the device over;
  • blot the cotton wool near the wick with a special flammable substance, make sure that the gasoline does not go beyond the level of the container;
  • insert the mechanism back;

While refueling, count to 10; if this condition is met, the device will be fully charged. Leave the refilled lighter to sit for 5 minutes. After completing these steps, wash your hands and remove any remaining fuel from them. If a spark does not appear, check the working condition of all components. The reason may be hidden in the gear wheel or shortened wick. Buy only original spare parts, then the device will last a long time. If necessary, all elements can be replaced independently, without the help of a specialist. Keep away from children, open flame and use for its intended purpose.

How to properly refill a Zippo lighter with gasoline - instructions:

  • Step #1. Remove the internal device from the housing (holding the wheel with one hand and gently pulling the outer metal shell with the other).
  • Step #2. Turn the lighter over; on the bottom there is a felt lining marked “Lift to full”.
  • Step #3. Lift the felt by a corner to expose the cotton balls.
  • Step #4. Open the spout of the container with gasoline and insert it into the hole in the felt lining.
  • Step #5. Add fuel until the balls are completely saturated.
  • Step #6. Fold the felt corner back and insert the mechanism into the body.

The second way to fill your lighter's reservoir with fuel is to pour it directly through the raised corner of the felt.

Tip: with a completely empty lighter, count to 10 while pouring gasoline - this time is enough for a complete refueling. When partially full, it is better to visually navigate by the degree of saturation of the cotton balls.

How often is refueling needed?

A full refueling requires 7 ml of fuel. According to the manufacturer, the factory liquid is enough for about 300 uses, which is 7 days of use. In fact, according to owner reviews, this is 4 days of operation when fully charged. This figure depends on the duration of combustion, the quality of consumables, fuel, and the device itself. For zippo, the manufacturer recommends using a special high-filtration liquid. Fake flammable liquids, even when fully charged, evaporate faster and emit soot and unpleasant odors. How often do you need to refill? A full refill will last approximately 10 days. If the period has been halved, check the condition of the consumables:

  • The wick is unpretentious and does not need frequent replacement. It can be spoiled by poor quality fuel;
  • flint is enough for 2-3 weeks of use, performance can be easily checked by the speed at which a spark appears;
  • felt, springs and other components can be replaced under a lifetime warranty; they cannot be purchased.

Features of the device and algorithm for refilling the lighter

To understand the need for refueling, you need to carry out the following test: in the absence of a flame, you need to set the valve to maximum and hold it in this position for several minutes, while pressing on it with the end of a ballpoint pen.

Next, return the valve to its previous position and leave the lighter for 10-15 minutes.

While the temperature of the lighter returns to normal, the can is also kept at room temperature. Usually, the canister comes with adapters, from which you need to select a more suitable size so that it fits tightly into the valve hole and does not allow gas to leak out.

Next, the adapter is put on the fitting of the can and it is shaken thoroughly. The lighter itself needs to be checked for a moment to see if the gas supply button is pressed on it. Next, if necessary, you need to open the lid, under which there is a socket for refilling. If there is none, then this item can be skipped. The adapter is inserted into the socket and the injection button on the cylinder is pressed. Afterwards the adapter is not removed, you need to wait 10-15 seconds and repeat the procedure 3-4 more times.

Refilling the lighter with gas

Put the lighter down and wait until the introduced gas is distributed throughout the entire volume.

Advantages of original zippo gasoline

Zippo can run on two types of fuel: refined gasoline and butane. Genuine models of this brand require the following fuel:

  • Zippo Premium Lighter – for gasoline samples;
  • Zippo Premium Butan – for butane modification of the device;

Manufacturers keep the ingredients of this fuel strictly secret. Luxury quality ingredients are used for its production. The finished gasoline goes through several stages of filtration. It contains absolutely no impurities. The main advantages of using such fuel in zippo are:

  • flame without burning and black smoke;
  • rapid ignition in all weather conditions;
  • no pungent aroma;
  • long service life without refueling;
  • prevents rapid wear of consumables;

How to distinguish counterfeit from original gasoline

To figure out where the original zippo liquid is and where its cheap copy is, it is important to know the main features of the fuel:

  • the replica is usually very strong and smells bad;
  • the size of the fake container is slightly smaller than the real one;
  • the reservoir for the fake liquid is painted pale and has a reflective surface;
  • the fake canister is marked with raised symbols, and the real one is stamped at the bottom with a black sign;
  • the original has a sticker with operating instructions for Russian users;

Features of Zippo refill

When filling the lighter with fuel, use only products provided by Zippo (liquid, wicks and flint). After refueling, it is important to thoroughly wipe the body so that no gasoline remains on it. Before checking the functionality of the product, you should prepare wet wipes and water. You also need to make sure that the fuel container is at a safe distance.

Filling the lighter with fuel can damage it, so you need to carefully monitor the filling of the chamber. After refueling, it is not recommended to keep the product burning for a long time, as this may lead to destruction of the product. After 10 minutes of continuous burning, the flame spreads to the body and some parts become unusable.

If, even when refilled with a high-quality composition, the lighter does not work well or the liquid evaporates quickly, you should pay attention to the assembly of the model; perhaps it is not an original item. To understand whether a zippo lighter is real and how to distinguish a fake, just look carefully at the case.

In the inscription you can see that instead of a dot above the letter “i”, the original models have an image of a flame. Also, all inscriptions are stamped. This means that if the letters are engraved, the lighter is not original. It is also worth paying attention to the price - it cannot be lower than a certain amount. The cheapest models can be bought for about 1300-1500 rubles.

After the lighter is filled, you should shake it so that the fuel is evenly distributed throughout the cotton wool.

Correctly refilling a lighter is not only a way to avoid unpleasant consequences, but also an opportunity to increase its service life. One wrong move and it can catch fire right in your hands, start smelling like gasoline, or stop working altogether. But if you follow all the recommendations, it’s easy to learn how to do it correctly after the first independent filling with fuel.

Alternative fuel brands

If you don’t have a high-quality, original gas station at hand, and you don’t want to fill up with automobile fuel of unknown origin, then there are other options. There are liquids on sale that can be used to refill a lighter without damaging the condition of the device. Do not fill the appliance with fire lighter fluid or ethanol.

Royal

From a Dutch manufacturer, you can refill any type of lighters powered by gasoline. Release form: 125 ml container. Has a number of advantages:

  • no pungent odor;
  • the flame is even, without black smoke;
  • the felt remains clean;

The main disadvantage is rapid evaporation. With original zippo fuel, the device will work twice as long.

Gasoline galosh

Budget fuel of Russian production. When refueling with this type of fuel, an unpleasant odor is immediately felt. The flame smokes a little. In winter, interruptions in operation and difficulties with ignition are possible. With daily use, such fuel will last for 5 days at most.

Newport

The British manufacturer of flammable liquid states that it has gone through several stages of filtration and is considered very purified. It does not have a strong odor and produces a flame consistently even in frosty air. It is used for washing mechanisms, as well as degreasing alloy surfaces. At this charge the device will remain in working order for a week.

Clipper

The manufacturer of Clipper fuel is a company from Spain. Available in 133 ml containers. The liquid does not have a pungent odor, does not pollute the device with various impurities, and the flame burns evenly without interruption. There will be no problems with this fuel when using the lighter in winter. Considered universal.

Runis

Russian-made fuel, created specifically for refilling heating pads and lighters. Effectively removes greasy marks from any surface. It evaporates very quickly. When fully charged, the fuel will last for three days of periodic use. When burning, the flame produces a lot of smoke. The liquid itself has an unpleasant, pungent smell. But the cost is within 100 rubles. for 133 ml, forces buyers to purchase such a product.

Gasoline lighters are practical, durable, and will last for decades if properly used, refilled and maintained on time. Purchase original consumables and certified, original refill fluid.

Types of lighters

By fuel type, devices can be divided into:

  • gasoline;
  • gas;
  • USB lighters (coil) are like a car cigarette lighter, where electricity is used as a heating source for the coil.

According to the ignition device:

  • silicon;
  • piezo lighters;
  • with an electrical circuit that provides ignition.

Gasoline lighters are made only with a silicon mechanism. Gas engines are produced with different ignition mechanisms; there are also turbocharged models.

In order to better understand all the pros and cons of gasoline lighters, let’s compare them with gas ones.

How to refill a gasoline lighter

Contrary to stereotypes, the design of a gasoline lighter is even simpler than a gas lighter. It is precisely due to its simplicity that the mechanism turns out to be reliable and durable. All gasoline lighters work on the same principle: a spark is “produced” by striking a flint with a wheel that acts as a chair. There should be no remaining fuel in the lighter: it must be used up before refueling. We must not forget about safety precautions: gasoline for a lighter is a flammable liquid, so the procedure is carried out away from open flame sources. You need to make sure that fuel does not get on your body, clothing or surrounding objects: this is fraught with consequences. If we break down the process of refueling a gasoline lighter into stages, the procedure will be as follows:

  • check the tightness of the housing: if gasoline leaks, there is a risk of fire;
  • open the cover and remove the mechanism;
  • carefully bend the felt insert, turning the lighter over with the windshield facing down;
  • soak the cotton wool or felt next to the wick (depending on the material used) with special gasoline: in this case, you need to carefully ensure that the fuel level does not go beyond the tank;
  • Place the insert back into the housing and wipe it with a dry cloth.

That's the whole secret: all that remains is to check the mechanism - let it sit for a couple of minutes to soak, and light the igniter. Before ignition, you need to wipe your hands and remove traces of fuel from your skin. If a spark does not appear, then check the functionality of the lighter elements: the wick must be long enough, without breaks, the flint must not be worn out. It is worth inspecting the gear wheel itself - perhaps this is the reason. In any case, repairing a gasoline lighter is very simple: all of the above can be easily corrected by replacing the part with a spare element, without the help of service technicians.

How to refill a lighter with a wick?

Gasoline lighters without a valve can be refilled without spending a lot of time. Remove the body, take out the gasket and carefully moisten the cotton wool that is already available. Or use tweezers to remove the old one and replace it with a new one.

If you need to replace the wick, a screwdriver is useful to carefully unscrew the small spring and replace the burnt out cord.

Don't forget about the classics. For a smoking pipe, the main element is quality tobacco and proper care. Using this accessory will save a lot of time, and the skin of your hands will not be exposed to the harmful effects of substances that are used in the manufacture of modern cigarettes.

How often is refueling needed?

On average, a full refill is enough for 200-300 lights. This amount depends on the duration of combustion, the quality of consumables, fuel and the accessory itself. For Zippo lighters, they recommend branded highly purified gasoline: a full portion will last for about 7-10 days. If the period is significantly shorter, then it’s time to check the consumables - unlike the lighter itself, they need to be changed regularly as they wear out:

  1. The wick does not require frequent replacement: as it burns out, it is carefully pulled out with tweezers to a clean length, aligned with the wind protection, and the excess is cut off. One wick is designed for two such procedures: then the length will not be enough for full work, and fuel consumption will increase. Poor quality or underfilled gasoline, due to which the wick is not completely saturated, is another reason for premature wear.
  2. One flint is enough for at least 3 weeks. The replacement period is determined by the quality of the spark: if it cannot be struck the first time, or it is missing, it is time to install a new flint.
  3. Felt, springs and wheels cannot be found on the open market: Zippo gives a lifetime guarantee on its products, and replaces such parts as the resource is exhausted.

If you use the lighter about 20 times daily, the silicon wheel will last at least 10 years, but a lot depends on how carefully the accessory is used.

Best in the world

In a world where many things have become disposable, including lighters due to disgusting quality, I want to be a little nostalgic and return to the Soviet past, where everything was made with a threefold safety margin. In the USSR, gasoline lighters were made to look like small pistols with the inscriptions “Baku,” “Tbilisi,” and “Rovno.” There were other models, gift ones - in the form of cameras and tabletop trinkets. But the best were “military”, army lighters. They were also called commanders. Later, products imitating the original Zippo appeared.

They also made gasoline lighters with their own hands - from brass and steel tubes, coins and other scrap metal. There were more craftsmen in those days; almost everyone knew how to make something from scrap materials. Today there are also people who love to do everything with their own hands, including gasoline lighters. But this must be done carefully, with the full understanding that if the elements are soldered incorrectly, the lighter may burst into flames in your hands.

Today, the world's best gasoline lighters are produced under the brands Cartier, Givenchy, BIC, and Dunhill. But the market leader is the Zippo brand.

Advantages of original Zippo gasoline

Zippo gasoline is designed specifically for refilling lighters. Manufacturers carefully hide its composition: it is known that premium petroleum products are used for its production, and the finished liquid goes through several stages of purification.

This removes possible impurities from the fuel and gives it qualities that bring it to a leading position among other options:

  • instant fire in any weather;
  • even flame without soot and burning;
  • long period of time between refills;
  • no unpleasant odor.

One of the main advantages of the original gasoline for refilling lighters is the gentle operation of the accessory. The fact is that low-quality fuel leads to rapid wear of consumables: you have to change the wick more often, and the inside of the lighter becomes clogged with surrogate sediment, which leads to breakdown and expensive repairs. This can be avoided - high-quality liquid does not cost that much.

The popularity of original gasoline for refilling Zippo lighters brings with it a huge number of counterfeits, so when purchasing you should always take a couple of minutes to inspect the metal canister and determine the quality:

  • the fake has a pronounced pungent odor;
  • the height of the fake canister is less than the original one, which without taking into account the neck is 121 mm;
  • the fake canister is paler in color and has a glossy surface;
  • The markings on the real one are on the bottom and are a black stamp, versus the embossed signs and numbers of the fake;
  • The original has a sticker in Russian with instructions for using the fuel.

Special fuel is the key to a long service life of the lighter without repairs, soot, the smell of burnt gasoline and constant refueling.

Preparatory stage: purging (cleaning) the lighter

Even if your lighter has stopped burning, it still contains a small amount of gas, a flammable substance that can irritate your eyes and skin. Therefore, clean (blow) and refill the lighter outdoors or in a well-ventilated place. So, preparing for the process includes the following steps.

1. Open the window if you are refilling your lighter indoors.

2. Turn on a fan to improve air circulation in the room.

3. Find a flat, stable, and durable surface on which to refuel.

Since the liquefied gas remaining in the lighter may splash out, it would be a good idea to cover the selected surface (table or bedside table) with napkins or newspaper. If you're refilling outdoors, make sure you're using a clean, dry surface to avoid accidentally getting dirt or moisture into your lighter.

4. Make sure the lighter is not hot. Never refill a lighter immediately after use. Butane and propane are highly flammable, so you'll want to wait at least half an hour for the lighter to cool completely before attempting to refill it. Tip: Place the lighter in the refrigerator for five minutes to speed up the cooling process.

5. Using a screwdriver, turn the flame control knob clockwise until it stops. Just in case, we suggest that the adjusting screw is located at the bottom of the lighter, and it is easy to identify by the presence of a groove for a screwdriver. By the way, some models of butane lighters are equipped with a special key to turn the adjustment screw, and you do not need to use a screwdriver to set the screw to the minimum value. Don't press the screw. If it no longer moves, then it is already set to the minimum setting and it is time to leave it alone.

6. Press the fill valve with a screwdriver to release any remaining air. Hold the lighter away from your face and press the end of the screwdriver on the valve to open it. Leave the valve open until you no longer hear the hissing sound.

Any air or gas left inside the device can prevent butane or propane from getting in and damaging your lighter, so be careful with this step.

Why can't you fill Zippo with regular gasoline?

There are situations when the original fuel has run out, and the lighter needs to be refilled “yesterday”. Some Zippo owners mistakenly believe that regular car gasoline is quite suitable for temporary refueling, but this is not true: the decision to use car fuel will lead to almost instant wear of the “insides” of the lighter. Technically, such refueling is possible, but instead of smooth combustion without foreign odors, the result will be a smoky flame with the aroma of exhaust gases. Again, the wick will become unusable and will have to be replaced. And in general, the picture turns out to be inharmonious: an original Zippo lighter and unrefined motor gasoline.

Consequences of using regular gasoline

It is not recommended to use regular gasoline as fuel for a lighter, as you may encounter unpleasant consequences:

  • clogging of felt with resins and combustion products;
  • an unpleasant odor that will not disappear even when the lid is closed;
  • flame with black, smoky smoke;
  • rapid wick burnout.

If you use high quality fuel, these problems can be avoided even when using gasoline not supplied by Zippo. If you do not follow the manufacturer's recommendations, you will subsequently have to replace the flint, wick, wheel and other elements located in the case. That is why before you fill your zippo with gasoline, you should make sure that it is suitable for this.

Alternative fuel brands

If you don’t have highly purified liquid for refilling, and you don’t want to fill in just anything, the question arises: what is the best way to replace the original gasoline for lighters? There is an affordable alternative: fortunately, the market offers options for refilling liquids that do not harm the accessory and are safe for humans if precautions are taken.

Royal

Dutch-made universal fuel is suitable for any lighters and is available in 125 ml canisters. There are no foreign odors, the flame is even and without soot, the lighter does not become clogged with impurities. There are also disadvantages: any gasoline evaporates on its own, even the original one. Royal evaporates much faster and with regular use a full refill will last for a week.

Newport

“Super pure,” according to the manufacturers, the liquid of the British brand is used not only for refilling lighters. It is used for cleaning watch mechanisms, refilling soldering irons and degreasing metal.

Clipper

The Spanish-made alternative can be compared to Royal - the fuel is suitable for any type of lighter, it “reacts” quickly at sub-zero temperatures, and refills last for 6-7 days. There is no pronounced smell. The volume of one fuel cylinder is 133 ml.

Gas lighter device

To successfully repair a gas lighter, you need to understand how it works and know the purpose of its parts.

As a visual aid for study, we took the simplest gas piezoelectric lighter shown in the photograph.

To gain access to the parts of the ignition mechanism, the lighter must be disassembled. To do this, just pry the flat blade of a screwdriver or knife behind the lower edge of the nozzle protection and move it to the side.

Sometimes the nozzle protection is adjacent to the lighter body; it is impossible to pry it off very tightly. Then you need to insert a screwdriver into the slot on top of the protection and turn it a little so that the sides of the protection move apart.

After removing the nozzle, all parts except the gas supply mechanism can be easily removed. The nozzle protection protects a person from burns and at the same time keeps all parts inside the lighter body.

The key is used to turn on the flame. The piezoelectric element generates a spark to ignite the gas. The lever is used to open the gas supply valve to the nozzle.

Gas lighters have a rather complex, non-separable gas supply system, and usually when repairing lighters I don’t touch this system. Perhaps, sometimes it is useful to replace or clean the divider, which is a spring twisted from steel, since it can become dirty from soot and external debris.

How to replace gasolineDescription
For catalytic heating padYou cannot use 80 gasoline or any other gasoline for such a device. It will render the heating pad unusable, and the fumes released will have a negative impact on human health.

For a number of reasons, sometimes you have to look for a way to replace gasoline. Often this question arises due to the ever-increasing cost of this type of fuel.

It must be taken into account that analogues will not always be effective, and in some cases they will even be harmful not only to health, but also to equipment.

Therefore, before purchasing one or another option, you need to familiarize yourself with its features.

Regulator installation

Set the flame height control to minimum . This is usually a brass adjustment screw at the base of the housing with a slot for a screwdriver. Some models come with a key to turn the adjustment knob. Many are equipped with a wheel that does not require special tools to rotate. Do not apply a lot of force when rotating the adjusting devices. If difficulties arise in reducing the height of the fire, then most likely the adjusting screw is in the limit position + or -. Try his move in the other direction.

How to replace gasoline for lighters

No one wants to feed such an accessory with anything, as this may negatively affect the condition of the lighter. If it is not possible to purchase original gasoline, it can be replaced with several types of fuel.

Royal

This is a universal gasoline for lighters, which is sold in 125 ml containers. It has no foreign odors, burns well, and does not harm the lighter. However, some reviews indicate that this type of fuel evaporates quickly. But this is not critical, since one refill will last for a week.

Newport

Belongs to the group of super clean lighter fuels. This gasoline is used to wash watch parts and degrease metal surfaces. It can also be used to refill heating elements.

Clipper

Sold in 133 ml containers. Gasoline producer – Spain. The original product does not have a strong odor, burns well and can ignite even in the cold. One refill will be enough for 7 days.

Galosh

A domestic type of fuel with a sweetish odor. This gasoline is suitable for refilling lighters and can be used instead of solvent, cleaning parts, various equipment, and tools. One refill is enough for 5 days. Difficulties arise when used in cold weather. You also need to remember that a flame with such fuel does not burn, but smokes.

Runis

One of the popular domestic analogues, which is intended for catalytic heating pads and refilling lighters. This gasoline is also suitable for processing metal parts and removing greasy contaminants. Instead of burning normally, it emits soot and is distinguished by rapid evaporation and a pungent odor. However, this is a more affordable option than foreign analogues.

Favorite lighter

Many people use disposable gas lighters, many will ask why refill a gas lighter?
I ran out, threw it away, bought a new one and no problem! But now we will not talk about an ordinary gas lighter bought at a stall for five kopecks, but about a good expensive gas lighter, or about a gas lighter that was given to you by a person close to you, perhaps your idol, there is an option that this is a gas lighter that is dear to you as a memory or this is all that remains of a friend who moved very far away or, God forbid, died. I have this gas lighter. This gas lighter, firstly, was a birthday present. Secondly, the friend who gave it to me moved to live in another country and since he left I have never seen him and this gas lighter is dear to me as a memory. Thirdly, this gas lighter is made in the form of an exact copy of the Mauser; it looks cool, solid, even a little intimidating. Very often, if I walk with it on the street, I have to demonstrate to law enforcement agencies that it is a gas lighter and not a combat pistol. It burns well “turbine”, you can regulate the gas, at minimum the fire is red at maximum it is deep blue, but there is also a small minus: the gas runs out very quickly and you have to refuel very often. I encountered this problem literally in the very first hour of using a gas lighter, as I got carried away and shot at everything with my Mauser. And then the question arose before me, where to get a gas spray?

For auto

Today, looking for an alternative to gasoline for a car is very important, since this type of fuel regularly increases in price. To save money, many motorists are looking for alternative energy sources.

This is probably the best alternative to gasoline, since gas is half the price. The use of such fuel allows you to reduce financial expenses by approximately 40%. However, it must be borne in mind that gas has some disadvantages.

  1. The engine operating life is reduced by approximately 10%.
  2. The luggage compartment will be significantly reduced in size, since a gas cylinder will be permanently placed in it. But this is not a critical flaw.

Diesel fuel

Not the best option for saving money, since it only reduces fuel consumption by just a couple of liters.

You can save money just by using the difference in consumption. But you need to take into account that the diesel engine has some disadvantages.

  1. It is characterized by lower dynamics compared to gasoline.
  2. In winter, starting a diesel car is problematic because its fuel tends to freeze in the cold.

Electricity

Not the most popular, but quite economical option. However, it must be taken into account that cars with an electric motor are extremely expensive to maintain. In addition, gas stations designed for electric cars are very rare in our country.

It is possible to find an option to replace gasoline, but not for all cases. For example, for lighters or catalytic heating pads it is better to use original purified fuel. Otherwise, you can render the device unusable and harm your health.

Checking the lighter

To test the lighter, the gas supply controller is set to maximum and the fire needs to be lit. You need to be careful when doing this, as the flame will most likely be very large. This way the nozzle is cleared of carbon deposits. Set the controller to normal and use the lighter as usual.

You should not check the lighter immediately after refueling. You need to let it cool a little, which will take a few minutes.

Checking the lighter can be repeated after some time, when the gas has finally dispersed in the tank. However, you should not refill the gas station, even if it seems that the device has run out of fuel. It is better to use up the gas mixture completely and refill it again, taking into account the remaining volume from the last time.

Tips and warnings

Some actions seem so intuitively simple that no one thinks about how to perform them. Start the car, make some toast, button up your jacket - what could be easier? In fact, these simple things may turn out to be more complicated than at first glance. The short guides below will help you not only on how to properly refill your lighter to extend its life, but also how to do it safely for yourself and others.

  1. Do not refill the lighter in closed, unventilated spaces, inside a car, or in cramped spaces.
  2. Under no circumstances do this near sources of sparks or open flames, or near smokers. The tank and can contain butane under high pressure. It is extremely flammable.
  3. Protect your eyes while refueling and try not to inhale gas vapors.
  4. Use only high quality butane, at least triple purified. The cleaner the fuel, the lower the risk of valve clogging. Poor quality gas can lead to lighter malfunctions during operation and problems during refilling.
  5. To quickly fill the reservoir to capacity, try pre-chilling it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes. The gas cylinder does not need to be cooled. If there is a fuel level control window on the body, you will notice a difference from the procedure for refilling a warm lighter.
  6. Lighters do not like long pauses in operation. Try to use them periodically. This will prolong their life. If long-term storage is necessary, release the gas from the tank. How to do this is described in the corresponding section above.
  7. It is not at all necessary to set a large flame and dip a cigarette into it. The greatest heat is at the very tip of the torch and spreads higher in the invisible zone. This knowledge will help preserve the smoker’s mustache and eyebrows, and proper use of the flame will protect the lighter mechanisms from becoming clogged with ash.
  8. Buy a can of compressed air. This is a necessary tool for caring for your lighter. Blowing out valves and clearing debris from hard-to-reach places will be much easier.

There is another simple way to fill with gas. If repeating the instructions you have read yourself seems difficult, entrust this task to specialists.

Refilling the tank

You only need to refuel in an upside down position . The lighter must be taken in your hand so that it can be easily held, preferably with an emphasis on some hard surface. First, shake the gas canister several times.

Insert the nozzle of a can with a suitable nozzle tightly into the filling valve and press it onto the filling rod. If liquid gas begins to fill the tank, the lighter body will quickly cool. Do not prime for more than five seconds. If this is not enough, repeat the procedure after a while. The release of excess gas will indicate that the tank is completely filled.
