Forge from a balloon
The forge allows you to heat the metal for further forging and processing. The device can be made from a 25-liter old gas cylinder.
Do-it-yourself master class - making a forge:
- Cut the end parts of the cylinder using an angle grinder with a cutting disc. Do not throw away the cut parts; they will be useful for making the door and back part.
- Finish the inner surface of the cylinder with fireproof karmic wool. The maximum permissible temperature for the material is 1200°C.
- Apply a layer of fireclay clay on top of the cotton wool, which can withstand temperatures up to 1500°C.
- Lay out the bottom from refractory bricks or fireclay slabs.
- Make a hole in the top and install a compact squeegee for installing a gas burner. Use a burner that is powerful enough to produce temperatures in excess of 1000°C. For home forging this will be quite enough.
In the photo of a homemade product made by yourself, you can clearly see the design of a home forge and the process of its manufacture.
This is a practical option for setting up a small home forge, in which you can forge almost any part.
Garage lift
You can make another cool homemade product with your own hands - a garage lift. To assemble it you need the following materials:
- 2 supports – pipes 100x100x2350 mm;
- cross member - a pipe of the required length with a cross-section of 100 mm;
- 4 rod stands – pipe 100x100x600 mm;
- frame parts - corners, shelf width should be 100 mm;
- 2 steel rollers along which the cable will move.
- 4 wheels.
It is recommended to use a hand winch as a lifting mechanism. It should be able to withstand loads of up to 500 kg; this will be enough for a garage workshop. The winch must be securely fastened to one of the supports.
Using this design, you can perform various automotive repair work, for example, lifting the engine and other large parts.
Mobile tool rack
This is a compact but extremely spacious rack. If necessary, it can be easily moved. A good craft for a home workshop.
It is especially useful when performing construction and repair work, when you need to constantly move around the territory with a large number of tools.
For assembly, you need to make a mobile platform on wheels. It is made from 45x45 mm corners and fairly thick plywood.
Wheels can be both large and small, for example, from furniture, which depends on the planned load.
Fasteners for tools need to be installed on the rack. It is necessary to ensure that each tool is securely fixed and not scattered chaotically.

Choosing video surveillance software
The market offers a large variety of server software for organizing broadcasts from CCTV cameras. From the feature-rich Macroscop to simpler, virtually online video recorders that record on a hard drive (for example, Shinobi or iSPY).
Software cost
All services that provide software have different licensing terms. This can be either a one-time large payment or monthly subscription payments. Payment can be for the software itself, or for added cameras, the number of users, the storage period of the video archive, or for additional video analytics modules. The main thing is to understand the tasks that your video surveillance system will face. This way you can calculate all the required functionality and select the optimal solution.
Dependence of server characteristics on software
The more serious the software’s capabilities (video analytics: counting people, facial recognition with entry into the database, reading and recognizing license plates, etc.), the larger the budget will have to be allocated to the server part. This is justified by the fact that the server decompresses the video stream and uses video analysis algorithms. Additional load falls on the processor and video card. So the cost of the server can increase many times over.
What to choose for video surveillance in apartment buildings?
The key features of video surveillance in apartment buildings are a large number of subscribers and the low cost of software and servers.
In our work we use server software of our own design - “MainStreamer” (distribution and documentation are available after registration in the LC). Software and services created specifically for use in apartment buildings have all the functionality residents need: low requirements for the server part, support for popular codecs and protocols (H.264 and RTSP), a mobile application and convenient management of residents’ accounts.
When describing the selection of a server, we will rely on (to calculate the components of the video surveillance server).
Kitchen apron made of corks

Wall folding table
If the kitchen is small, you can make a folding table attached to the wall. This is also a great idea for a balcony. For example, with the help of such a table on the balcony you can create a full-fledged work area or a place to relax.
In a compact kitchen, a folding table will be extremely useful. It can be used instead of a dining table or work area. But, the kitchen table should be more than on the balcony.
In the same way you can make a convenient ironing board. When folded, it takes up minimal space, so it can fit in any room, even a small closet.

Price comparison: server or network video recorders?
Until recently, video surveillance systems were based on one or more video recorders. Let's compare the advantages and disadvantages of using DVRs versus video servers. For example, let's take the configuration of a video server for 80 cameras in a DNS store and a HiWatch DS-N332/2(B) network video recorder.
We are designing a server without hard drives, because... They are also not included with DVRs.
Model | Video server with DNS | HiWatch DS-N332/2(B) |
Number of cameras to connect | 80 FullHD | 32 FullHD |
SATA quantity | 3 (+1 for system hard drive) | 2 |
Maximum storage capacity | 54 TB | 20 TB |
Price | RUB 23,675 | RUB 23,090 |
The cost of both the server and the registrar is about 23.5 thousand rubles. A video surveillance system for 80 IP cameras, built on three DVRs, will cost approximately 70 thousand rubles, without storage devices.
Speaking about video archive storage: the maximum storage capacity of the video server given in the example (excluding the system disk) will be up to 54 Tb, which is 2.5 times more than on one recorder - 20 Tb. The number is almost equal to the maximum amount of memory on 3 DVRs. Which again is a plus for the video server.
The video server offers the same amount of memory (at 3 times lower cost), greater functionality, and convenience for end users. The maximum number of users simultaneously connecting to the broadcast is practically unlimited.
Summer shower
At your dacha or in a private house, you should definitely equip a comfortable summer shower. It will help you cool down in the summer heat.
Instructions on how to make a homemade product with your own hands:
Assemble the frame frame for the booth. It can be made of wooden blocks or metal profiles. You can also use other materials that are found on the site.
Place a container on the roof to collect water. Today it is common to use plastic tanks, but you can also find unnecessary steel containers. Select the volume based on your needs.
If the tank is steel, it is worth covering it with black paint. This color attracts solar heat, so the water will heat up faster.
If necessary, a heating element can be installed in the tank, which will allow you to use the shower in almost any weather.
Externally, the cabin can be finished with boards, sheet profiles, plywood, etc. If you do not want to do a full-fledged finishing, simply cover the cabin with film or tarpaulin.
Selecting an OS for the server
The most popular operating systems for video surveillance servers today are Windows and Linux Ubuntu.
What criteria are used to evaluate the validity of choosing a particular OS? Let's look at it in detail.
Windows
Pros: amount of information about operation and setup, friendly user interface and ease of administration. Don't forget about the huge amount of additional compatible software. But within the highly specialized task of building a video surveillance system, there is no great need for additional software.
Speaking about the disadvantages of Windows, we can highlight three main ones: cost, resource consumption, and security. The rather high cost of OS licensing can be important when the budget is generally limited. The resources consumed by the OS can also be used, at least for connecting additional CCTV cameras. In the Windows environment, there are many virus programs for different versions and platforms, and video surveillance must be reliable (to ensure the proper level of security).
Linux Ubuntu
It is a free and open source solution, which provides clear advantages when purchasing and using the software. Ubuntu (compared to Windows) has lower resource costs. The system is less susceptible to malware, which makes it more reliable in terms of security.
What is better for a video server?
Definitely Linux. Setting up and administering Linux may seem quite complicated to an inexperienced user, but (if there are manuals) the option of using Linux as an OS for a video surveillance server is the most correct (due to lower costs for the OS and hardware, greater security).
