Fabric hearts are a small but very significant gift for your significant other on February 14th. Since the majority of Krestik readers are representatives of the fair sex, today we will focus on how to sew fabric hearts with your own hands specifically for men.
- How to cut out a beautiful heart
- What fabric to use
- The easiest way to sew a heart
- Heart with loop for hanging
- Tilde heart with wings
- Felt hearts
We all understand that “male” hearts should not be oversaturated with decorative elements such as lace, beads, seed beads, sequins, etc. After all, these are mostly “feminine” things) In order for your loved one to like the valentine, in which you will undoubtedly put a piece of your heart, the emphasis should not be on decoration, but rather on the color scheme and minimalism.
Heart in tilde style
This textile heart is sewn as a gift to loved ones: mothers, grandmothers, sisters. to friends. The gift will express your love and tenderness.
The “tilde” style involves the use of predominantly natural materials, lace, and ribbons. Look how varied the ideas can be:
We sewed this valentine heart:
Materials:
- Cotton fabric - 2 types,

What fabric to use
Now let's talk about fabric. Usually hearts are sewn from cotton fabric, linen, calico or felt. They are good because they are pleasant to the touch and relatively inexpensive, and they are also easy to work with.
If your husband or boyfriend has a shirt that can no longer be worn when going out or one that he simply hasn’t worn for a long time, then you can sew hearts from it. The fabric and color scheme will definitely suit you!
Another key point is color. It is better to choose red fabric or more restrained colors, but not very dark, after all, it will be a valentine. As an example, look at the selection of interesting fabrics that are suitable for sewing a heart.

Shabby chic heart
Shabby chic is a young style in interior and decor, born in the 1980s. Literally means "shabby chic", "faded shine". Items made in this style evoke nostalgia for the past, for childhood.
We got this heart:
For sewing you will need light cotton fabrics, lace, ribbons, mesh, jute braid, buttons, beads, antique metal decor. It is not necessary to use all specified materials. You can use what you have at home. But everything should be in light pastel colors.

Valentine - coffee magnet
I am very attracted to crafts made from coffee beans, and I once made a heart magnet. I’ve already shown it to you, but it would probably be appropriate to post my MK in this topic.
It looks very beautiful on the refrigerator and at first the magical aroma of coffee emanated from it, but then I probably just didn’t notice it.
It is best to use brown cardboard so that the gaps between the coffee beans are not so noticeable.
Draw a heart on cardboard and cut it out.
If you can’t find brown, you can glue a dark-colored fabric or paper after cutting out a piece of the same size from it.
I used a different method, read below.
Glue a small magnet to one side of the workpiece in the center. Let it dry for several hours.
But since I don’t do crafts where it might be needed, I took “Moment” glue - what I found at home.
And I’ve accumulated a whole big jar of coffee since I stopped drinking it.
We coat a small area of cardboard with glue (you don’t need the whole heart at once, this way it will have time to dry).
We lay out and press the coffee beans first around the perimeter, and then fill the entire central part of the heart with them.
I also glued a second layer, so the gaps between the grains are not visible, and the heart turned out to be more voluminous.
I decorated my craft with a bow made of thread. If I had jute at that time, it would have been an even better option!

To make a Valentine's heart with your own hands, we will need:
- scraps of fabric of different colors (chintz, calico, linen);
- filler (sintepon, holofiber, down);
- accessories for decoration (lace, braid, buttons, flowers, beads);
- pattern.
Operating procedure
- We print the pattern on a printer (or trace it by attaching a sheet of paper to the monitor). If the proposed heart shape does not suit you, you can make a pattern with your own hands. To do this, fold a sheet of paper lengthwise, draw a curved line and cut along it. The result will be a heart pattern of any shape.
- We decide on the color scheme of fabric and accessories. In our case, we will make a combined heart from three types of textiles with our own hands. The back will be traditionally red, and the front will be white calico with an insert of fine colored cotton. We will decorate with lace.
- We place a colored insert on the corner of a piece of white chintz, pin it together and stitch it on a sewing machine or by hand with a “forward needle” stitch. We wrap the insert in the opposite direction (over the face) and iron it. On the other side we pin the lace and sew it with a zigzag stitch. The front blank of the valentine is done.
- Let's move on to sewing the heart. We fold the two blanks with the right sides inward, between which we put a ribbon for hanging. We transfer the valentine pattern onto the fabric and sew along the contour using a sewing machine. We leave part of the outline unstitched to allow for stuffing with filler.
- Cut out the heart using zigzag scissors (if using tailor's scissors, you will need to make additional cuts). We turn the workpiece inside out and iron it. Fill with filler as tightly as possible. Sew the opening with a hidden stitch.
- The main work is done. All that remains is to decorate the Valentine’s card to your taste with different beauties: roses, beads, buttons. You can also sew your own flower to decorate the “yo-yo”.
- It is better to make a yo-yo from textiles that are in harmony with the main color of the valentine. The pattern in this case will be a circle of arbitrary size. From fabric we cut out a circle with a diameter twice the required size of the flower.
- Stepping back 0.5 cm from the edge of the circle, we sew a seam with small stitches. We collect our flower to the center and decorate the middle. If you want the flower to be more magnificent, you can make several such layers. We sew a yo-yo onto a valentine and arrange a photo shoot.

Templates of beautiful hearts for cutting out of paper for Valentine's Day
Wonderful valentines can be made from red and white paper, as well as any other color using the weaving technique. They are so bright, beautiful, with incredible patterns. They are a pleasure to give as an independent craft, or to decorate any gift or room for a holiday.
True, you still have to practice here for everything to work out.
If you place the lines closer or further from each other, make them broken, wavy, then you can get a completely different pattern. Use ready-made templates and have fun creating!
Heart pillow
If you make a larger pattern, you will get a heart-shaped pillow:
For such a product, use more durable fabrics: velor, plush, fur, linen. Ruffles or piping look good, depending on the effect you want to create in the interior: more romantic or more formal.
A heart pillow can be sewn from leftover fabric using the patchwork technique:
Or make a patchwork applique on a regular square pillowcase:
An important rule here: the pieces of fabric must be harmonious in color.
Another, simpler example of a heart-shaped applique is shown in the following photos:
Manufacturing Features
Heart-shaped pillows with hand embroidery and decorative elements
The process of making a pillow in itself is not complicated; difficulties arise due to the decoration of the pillow. But over time, skilled needlewomen forget about this complexity, it turns into joy. Undoubtedly, a heart pillow will become an unforgettable and pleasant gift! Give joy to your loved ones!
The heart pillow will perfectly complement a set of decorative pillows with a familiar rectangular shape.
Potholder - heart
Kitchen oven mitts in the shape of hearts can be a good gift idea for mom or grandma. We take the fabric in two folds, lay padding polyester or drape inside, and sew everything together along the front side. We decorate the cuts with edging and make a loop:
Another option for processing cuts: lay a decorative stitch along the edge and crochet it:
A more complex option in the photo below: we sew the front side of the potholder from 3 parts:
Heart topiary
Topiary or tree of happiness is an artificial form designed to replace plants in the interior. It was often used in the east as a talisman, a guardian of the house. Creating it is more difficult than a simple Valentine's card, but you can use almost all available means, from unnecessary scraps of fabric and old yarn, twine, to coffee supplies forgotten in the kitchen.
The technology is available to many:
- Prepare a cardboard base. If you want the heart to be voluminous, you can wrap it in newspaper and wrap it on top with thread or regular paper tape;
- The support for the valentine can be any branch found in the park or a thick cable found somewhere in the garage. The cardboard and paper base should be securely attached to a stick before the decorating process begins.
- So, the foundation has been created. All that remains is to glue on it everything that you have chosen as decoration - buttons, beads, scraps of fabric. As an alternative, you can use curls, as in the previous master class.
- The final stage is planting the topiary in a pot. To do this, you can use a regular flower pot and cement or gypsum mortar. After hardening, they also need to be covered with decor.
The most spectacular topiaries can be obtained by using thin fabrics - organza, chiffon, as well as by decorating them with artificial flowers.
Rug - heart
At home, you can also sew a heart-shaped rug. For example, using the patchwork technique, the rug will look like this:
But most suitable for this idea is soft fabric with pile or faux fur. For volume, place padding polyester inside.
Important: the bottom of the mat must be made of non-slip fabric.
Postcard
In addition to the main present, you can make an additional one. A postcard is a small little thing that can lift your spirits, but to do this you need to make it beautiful, investing a piece of your soul and trying your best.
Red cardboard is used in production. A heart of suitable size is cut out of it. Next, the base needs to be decorated.
You can draw beautiful pictures and glue various additions. An irreplaceable element on a postcard is pleasant congratulatory words.
Craft materials
Toys are made from different types of fabrics. The most commonly used materials are:
- Satin and satin are combined with pine needles, look very elegant, shimmer in the light. However, the fabric itself is quite thin, so you need to use a filler in the form of cotton wool or synthetic padding to add bulge. Work with such fabric must be careful.
- Felt is a common fabric for making toys. It makes light, original fakes. When sewing, it is recommended to select an external seam over the edge and make large stitches.
- Cotton - for handwork or with a machine. High-quality material retains its shape and does not wear out quickly. To diversify the design, use sequins, stickers, and ribbons.
Do-it-yourself fabrics for New Year crafts are combined with each other, then it turns out unusual and catchy.
