Constructing a front pattern

To shape the waist line in front, you need to set 1 cm down from point B. And draw a mark for the new waist from the top point along the barrel segment to the 1 cm point.

The front seam line is drawn from the right side of the net and extends beyond it. Using the auxiliary mark, we put 13.5 cm up (these are the auxiliary measurements that we have in the calculations), we get point B.

We put 6.75 cm aside from the step line and get point G. Points B and D need to be connected with a smooth mark. Point G connects to the lower right point in the corner of the grid - this is the step line.

Now we work with the side segment. From bottom to top we set aside three centimeters - point D. We also connect it to the right point along the grid line from below. The front half of the girl's shorts pattern is ready.

What will you need for this ? Good mood and imagination. Well, and the tools , of course:

An example of a classic pattern based on trouser patterns: all you need to do is cut the trouser pattern as shown in the example. The simplest and most understandable method for those who make patterns for the first time. It is this drawing that will make it possible to tailor children's models of short skirts, which can be easily changed at will and cut completely different products: fluffy, pleated, wraparound, sun and yoke.

It’s easier to make drawings on a large sheet of paper; newspaper will also do, but blank paper is still more convenient.

ATTENTION! The width of the belt for all sizes is taken to be 3–4 cm. You can make the product with a comfortable elastic band, to do this you just need to fasten it in the belt, but in this case there is no allowance for the fastener.

Cutting doll trousers is similar to cutting human trousers. You should prepare several tailor's pins, scissors and a sharpened piece of chalk.

Important information! You can draw lines with a pencil, but it does not leave a mark on all fabrics. For avisent and bolognese, it is best to use a ballpoint pen.

• Take the fabric and fold it in half, right side inward.
• Along the previously marked dotted line, attach the pattern to the fold of the fabric.

Building a pattern grid

First of all, we will create a pattern for shorts for girls. It is necessary to build a grid of blanks. To do this, draw a waist line (AB). It is equal to half the OB plus a few centimeters for freedom of fit: from 4 to 9 cm.

You need to add a few centimeters to the fit so that the shorts are loose. When squatting, they should not separate at the seams. The looser the shorts are, the more freedom of fit is given. We will add 5 cm.

AB = 27 + 5 = 32 cm

Divide the waist line (it is equal to OB + 5 cm for fit) by 2. Please note that the waist line and waist circumference are two different concepts and here we are not working with waist circumference measurements. From all three points downwards we take a measurement DI + 3 cm to a hem of 30 + 3 = 33 cm. The vertical line in the middle of the grid will become the side lines.

All the lower points need to be connected to each other - the resulting line will be the bottom line of the grid.

The next step in constructing the grid will be the marking of the step segment; it is laid down from the marked waist at a distance equal to OB/2 - 6 cm, i.e. 27 - 6 = 21 cm (see diagram below). This size chart approximately corresponds to shorts for a child 5-7 years old. Shorts for girls 12 years old are sewn in the same way, but taking into account a different OB (approximately 70 cm).

The step line (LS) is drawn horizontally, it is parallel to the waist line (LT) and parallel to the bottom line (LN) of the net (located between the LT and LN).

Building the back

Using this pattern, you can sew shorts for a 12-year-old girl, for small children, and even for a teenager. The algorithm is the same, only the measurements change.

We build the bottom line of the back half of the shorts. We draw a smooth mark from point D to point E and draw it 3.5 cm further than the point.

To the left we extend the step line by 13.5 cm (auxiliary measurements), mark point G. Connect this mark with a straight line to the bottom line.

The seat mark is constructed in this way: from point A we put 10 cm down, and 3 cm to the right. We draw a line through the resulting areas. At the top we extend it by 3 cm, and at the bottom we connect it with point F, but 1 cm shorter.

To create a waist line, you need to connect the top point of the crotch seam and the top point of the seat line. This pattern is ideal for sewing summer shorts with elastic.

Cutting out the shorts

Print out the pattern and glue the sheets together in the places where the dots are marked. Cut out the pieces from the fabric. You will need 2 front and 2 back pieces for the legs (fold the fabric and cut two pieces at a time). From ribbed fabric, cut out a rectangle measuring 13 cm x 46 cm for the belt.

Sewing the shorts

Take one back and one front piece of pant leg and place them next to each other.

Now place the front part on top of the back with right sides facing each other. Trim along the straight edge and stitch downwards, leaving 6mm from the edge.

This is what it should look like. Repeat the same with the second leg.

When one and the second leg are sewn, place them with their right sides facing each other. Now, retreating 6 mm from the edge, sew them together along the dotted lines.

By making these seams you have the front and back seams of the shorts. This is what you should get.

Now pin the needles along the inside of the pant leg. It is better to start the work from the center, then chop off the edges, and then everything else.

• The next step is to divide the right angle at point Ш1 in half, setting aside 45°.
• Along this line, measure half the width of the crotch seam and mark it with a dot.
• Connect points B, the mark of half the crotch seam on the bisector of the angle and point Ш2 with a smooth line.

So that the shorts fit

At the top, children's shorts, the pattern of which has already been created, will be fitted with an elastic band or a drawstring with ties. We also need to build the lower part so that the shorts fit not only comfortably, but also beautifully, do not puff up like a bag on the butt, and do not interfere with the movement of the legs.

This requires cutting the crotch seam in the trouser legs. You can build it in two ways - by dividing the girth of the leg in half and putting it first from point H to the right, and then dividing it into 4 parts and putting the resulting value from point H1. Or you can take a simpler route and simply divide the segments H1-H2 and H2-H3 in half and draw cutting lines along the resulting points, as indicated in the figure.

Here is a line drawn for freedom of fit (green along the side seam). Since children do not have a thin waist and curvy hips, like adults, when the difference between these parameters is quite significant, an average of 2-2.5 centimeters is taken for the freedom of fit for each of the 4 parts.

Sewing children's shorts, the pattern of which is built according to the child's individual sizes, will be quite simple.

How to sew children's shorts yourself

To make shorts, you need to take the main fabric, patterns, threads, measuring tape, pins, scissors and crayons. Only after understanding the presence of the listed elements can you begin to work. It is worth pointing out that the amount of fabric needed is calculated on an individual basis. It will depend on the length of the product, since shorts can be embroidered using the pattern. On average, the consumption will be equal to the length. To understand how much fabric is needed, you need to measure the length from the waist to the bottom and add 5 centimeters to process the waist cut and sew the belt.

Necessary materials

To make beautiful shorts, you need to follow these steps:

1. Redraw the details of the product onto the finished canvas, focusing on the diagram. Add a couple of centimeters for the seams. For shorts that have cuffs, add a few more centimeters at the bottom.
2. After creating the necessary details on the material, you should cut out the patterns with scissors. Cut out parts to form pockets and their internal parts. Make waist parts.
3. Start sewing the product from the lines on the sides, folding the cut pieces facing inward. Sew the inside of the shorts - the legs. Sew a stitch at the back and overlock all edges to prevent the fabric from fraying.
4. Make a zipper or add buttons, if desired. If the fastener is needed on the right or left, you can add it there.
5. Then construct the inner pocket part, stitching it so that when the stitched parts are turned out, the seams are not visible. To prevent the pockets from fraying, be sure to overlock them along the edges. Then design the pockets from the front.

1. If you plan to create shorts from denim, then you should stitch the product with a double line using a special needle. In this case, children's shorts will look like fashionable brand items. You should also incorporate rivets where they are usually found on denim models. In this case, all rivets must be selected identically.
2. Decorate the waistband and bottom of the shorts. To do this, fold the item several times, iron it and secure it with pins. Next, make an even seam. The belt must be made rigid to hold its shape. This product will be suitable for the classic model.

You can sew children's shorts without a pattern. Due to the lack of a template or the necessary knowledge in creating a pattern, you should not give up the idea of ​​sewing it yourself. All the craftswoman needs to do is cut out the old product, iron it and apply it to the fabric. Next, mark the outline and trim the parts, taking into account the allowances, and then create the legs.

Finishing the top edge with an elastic band

To process the top cut of the product with an elastic band, you need to insert the elastic into the belt, secure it with pins, and overcast the top cut with the elastic. After this, overcast the bottom edge. Using the created overstitches, make a hem on the wrong side and sew a seam from the front part. To make the built-in belt look beautiful, you need to overcast the fabric from the bottom and sew it on a machine, first removing the overstitches and ironing the seams.

Making a belt is easy. To do this, you need to fold the material in half with the wrong side up. Tie and slightly embroider it around the edges to get a cute bow. After constructing the finished model, you need to secure it with pins, iron it and stitch it. You must insert a ribbon inside the belt and glue it with an iron. Afterwards, you need to turn the belt out and carefully smooth out the seams with the corners. Remove internal folds to eliminate corners that are too thick.

Then make the top stitch on the front side to secure the waist edge. Before doing this, overlock the inner edges.

To connect a yoke to shorts, you need to attach the back of the yoke to the back half, and the front of the yoke to the front half of the shorts. Place the side seam on the yokes in the middle. Then sharpen, overcast the edges and iron onto the yoke. Then, on the front side of the yoke, lay finishing lines 0.1 centimeters from the seam, and iron the cm seam. Next, you need to connect the trouser legs along the middle seam using a double stitch and match the seams on the yoke. Finish the seams and match the middle seam.
