Don’t rush to throw away your old jeans – you can use them to make many useful things, as well as cool slippers. A sewing machine will certainly make the work easier, but, unfortunately, not all machines can sew thick fabrics or a “sandwich” of leather and foam rubber. So we will sew our first jeans slippers by hand. If you want to sew a gift into shoes, you will find slipper patterns of different sizes useful.
Always needed, needed everywhere
Humanity invented shoes 30 thousand years ago. With the approach of cold weather, ancient people wrapped their legs with pieces of leather or animal skins.
In hot countries, hunters protected the soles of their feet from hot sand with the help of dense tree bark.
Since then, the materials for the production of shoes have changed, the style and cut have been improved, but this item of clothing has been and will be necessary at all times.
Denim home decorations
You can decorate the interior of your own home using homemade crafts. Their price is minimal, but the design is memorable and unique.
Rug
Most often, rugs are made in denim patchwork style. To create it you need a lot of denim and patience. But there are a huge number of options for implementing creative ideas when creating.
Picture frame
Decorating frames with denim material is another option to diversify the interior. It makes it easier than ever. Prepare strips of denim of different lengths. Twist them one by one and glue them to the frame. What the result will be depends only on your imagination.
You should not throw away denim items that have served their age. You can create a huge variety of useful and interesting things from them. Even toys can be made from denim. But more on that another time.
In ancient Rus'
The nobility wore such shoes, and the peasants were content with bast shoes both in summer and winter. These products became the prototypes of modern boots and slippers.Russian boots had sharp, raised toes. These boots were called ostrogs. They were made from morocco, chrome, and yuft. They were embroidered with pearls and other precious stones.
Bunny boots
This model is sewn according to the same principle as homemade ugg boots, but with the addition of decor in the form of bunny ears. You can sew them from fur, fleece and any other available materials.
Thin fabric for bunny boots needs to be strengthened - glued with special materials, quilted with denser fabric. The “bunnies” must keep their shape well, so that the soft ears stand out against the background of the boot and are “alive” and mobile.
Ear patterns are added to the main patterns. We cut out 4 parts from the fabric in the form of an elongated oval with an extension towards one edge, from which the auricle will be formed. In addition to the ears, you can decorate the boots with a tail made of the main fabric or a wool pompom.
If the boots are sewn with a lining, then the number of parts of the boot and toe is doubled. First, the upper parts are sewn together, then they are connected to the sole. The seam can be either external or hidden. It depends on the skill level of the needlewoman. The ears are sewn into the seam connecting the lining of the boot with the top.
Many models
They say that putting on shoes in a dream means happiness and wealth, but being barefoot means you will experience poverty. Not in a dream, but in reality, on the shelves of specialized stores nowadays you can find shoes of any model from flip-flops to over the knee boots: for work and leisure, sports and performances on stage.
Models advertise them on catwalks and on the pages of glossy magazines. But a photo of boots made with your own hands will be much dearer to your heart.
Stages of pattern construction
The pattern is ready-made, as in the photo below.
If the leg is not standard, for example, a wide foot, a high arch, a protruding bone, then the patterns can be built independently, according to individual measurements.
To construct the sole, you can outline the foot, the insole, or a finished slipper that fits the size.
Attention: if the foot or insole was outlined, then add an additional 1 cm around the circumference. There is no need to increase the sole around the slipper - it is already large.
From old to new
If you don’t find a piece of new thick fabric among the craft materials in your home workshop, then it’s not a problem.

Disassemble old drape coats and suede or leather jackets that have become too small. This will be the material for your future creations.
This amount will yield not one, but several pairs of hand-made shoes. A pattern for making boots with your own hands can be made using patterns from old shoes or you can create it yourself.
To do this, you need to use a piece of cellophane or thin paper that will fit tightly on your leg. First, cut out the foot by tracing it with a pencil.
The side part and toe should be made by tracing the outline of the details of future products on paper or cellophane, applying it to your foot. Cut out the finished patterns, taking into account the allowance for seams, and transfer them to fabric.
What you need to sew boots
The first step is to prepare all the materials necessary for sewing. I took:
- an old denim skirt;
- unnecessary indoor slippers (by the way, these are exactly the slippers that I wore);
- fleece (needed to create the inside of the boots).
In addition to all this, to sew boots you will need some tools:
- threads;
- needle;
- paper for creating patterns;
- scissors;
- ruler.
Warm and cozy
I really want to stay warm in the house when there are interruptions in heating or the melted stove has not yet given up its heat to the room. It’s cold, but the soul asks for warmth and comfort.

In such cases, you need to think about how to sew boots with your own hands. Ugg boots are very popular now. To make them you will need: 1 meter of fleece, thick denim or drape, 50 centimeters of leather or suede.
The sole can be cut from leather or leatherette, the insole for boots can be cut from cloth or suede. It is advisable to use strong silk threads for sewing shoes.
Using the finished patterns, cut out the details. To pattern the boot top, take two rectangles measuring 20 by 38 centimeters.
Sew the top of the boot, starting from the heel of the foot. Then attach the toe to the sole and sew it to the upper part.
How to make shoes from jeans
What to do with old jeans? An option is to make your own shoes from them. I'll show you roughly how this is done.
I take old jeans, something like this.
And I begin to apply and outline the patterns that I previously made. like this.
After we have outlined all the details, we cut them out.
And cut out the seal.
and this is what all the details of a denim boot look like.
We glue the thermal seal with an iron.
We sew the parts into a blank.
This is how it works.
And this is how the blank turns out, ready to be tightened onto the block.
This is how it already looks draped over the block.
The sole is glued.
The end result is a boot made from old jeans.

For comfort
To ensure that the boots do not bunch up, but are stable, you need to use lining fabric. This is done in the same way as the base itself, only add less to the seams. Insulation can be made from faux fur, thin foam rubber or flannel.

Use the same technique as when making the outer part of the product. When all the blanks are made, you need to insert the lining part inside the boots, straighten the sole well and connect the outer and inner parts.
To prevent the fabric from gathering on the sole, you can coat it with glue.
Features of denim
Like most fabrics, denim has 2 types of threads in its structure:
- Warp thread. They are responsible for how durable the fabric will be. It is painted white and is visible only on the reverse side.
- Weft thread. It is the basis of the fabric. Painted blue.
Denim gets its sky color thanks to indigo dye.
Denim items may shrink a lot after washing. For this reason, new products must be washed very carefully; do not wring them out.
Now you can find both familiar denim products and absolutely unimaginable ones: jeans, Panama hats, boots, jewelry and much more.
Beauty pleases the eye
The upper part of the house boots can be decorated with a wide braid or satin ribbon. If you know how to weave with beads, then make a patterned strip and sew it to the boots.
A pattern or ornament can be embroidered on the boots themselves using floss threads. Or crochet balls and attach them to the sides of your cozy shoes.
Preparatory stage: steam boots at the seams
So let's get down to business. First you need to get rid of the unusable sole. Then rip everything apart at the seams. For ease of work, use a wallpaper knife. If the top of the boots in the foot area has a seam in the middle, then leave it in place.
Cut off the side surfaces if they are integral with the foot. Cut off the shoe strap, but do not throw it away. It will make a heel backdrop.
Detach the insole from the top. After all the manipulations with the old boots, you should get something like this.
Now you need to cut off the nose in the boot blank in a semicircle. The boots are too hard. Wearing such shoes at home is not very comfortable, although some may like the closed-toe option. Do not overdo it, otherwise you will cut off more than necessary, and your fingers will stick out forward and slow down on the floor.
The result was a blank for the top of the slippers.
The inner insole with all layers will be a platform.
Important! If the base is made of different materials, different according to the pattern, then the upper part of the flip-flops will have to be adjusted according to the pattern. If the sole is from the original boot insole, then the slipper pattern is as is.
With faces and ears
You can make your own slipper boots using the same pattern as the boots, only without the top. Faux fur lining can be used to trim the edges of the slippers.
For greater originality, on the front of the slippers you can depict the face of a cute animal with eyes and a nose. This is done by appliqué or embroidery.
On the sides of the shoes, when sewing the parts together, you can provide animal ears. Then they will be even more interesting. Your family and friends will definitely ask you to make these slippers.
Material selection
The way you feel when wearing shoes is largely influenced by the material from which they are made. In addition to the convenience and presentation of products, it is necessary to take into account such criteria as hygiene, thermal conductivity and strength.
In order to sew warm house slippers with your own hands, you can use the following blanks:
- An old sheepskin coat or sheepskin coat. Sheepskin has high thermal insulation properties, softness and stretchability. It is better to make slippers from a sheepskin coat from sleeves or floors, since the back and chest parts can later be used to make a vest.
- Tops of winter leather boots. Natural material has high strength and wear resistance. The downside is that it has too thin a layer of fur, which is not enough to provide reliable protection from the cold.
- Artificial fur. Synthetic products look good, are not afraid of dampness, and can be machine washed without problems. It’s not difficult to sew slippers, but the prospects for such work are questionable - synthetics do not absorb moisture and cause a lot of steam on your feet. There is a high probability of developing fungus and allergic reactions.
After choosing the material, you need to decide on the model of slippers. Depending on individual preferences, the pair of shoes produced may have an open or closed toe, heel counter or cuff.

Openwork or dense
Any craftswoman who knows how to knit or crochet can knit boots with her own hands.
If the boots are intended to warm the feet, then it is advisable to use wool yarn and knit the products with a tight knit.
Insert felt or wool insoles inside your home boots for warmth and comfort. Use one color of thread at your discretion or create them in different colors.Fashionable openwork boots are knitted from cotton, linen threads or iris. Fashionistas can also wear these shoes on the street.
For these purposes, use the sole of old shoes or sneakers, and use glue to connect it to the homemade sole of knitted boots.
You can choose any design for the pattern at your discretion. The openwork pattern looks very beautiful on a woman’s leg.
To prevent the boot from bunching up, before gluing the soles together, the blanks should be starched or soaked in PVA glue diluted with water.
Working with the sole
Before sewing slippers from old sheepskin coats, you need to take into account that the comfort and ease of use of indoor shoes largely depend on the functionality of the sole. This part of the slippers should be non-slip, warm and moderately hard. Of course, you can make it only from natural fur, but to create an additional thermal insulation layer it is best to use felt. The tops from old felt boots work well . If you don’t have them at home, you can buy thick shoe insoles at the market. Their size is adjusted to the sole, from which the excess allowance will be cut off.
The part must be attached to the workpiece before sewing the slippers; to do this, both elements should be glued together with waterproof glue. The composition should be applied along the edges and in stripes in the middle to leave space for ventilation.
It is recommended to take into account the property of felt to release small fragments of wool. To prevent home-made fur slippers from leaving debris on the floors, the insole should be covered with dark-colored cotton fabric.

Popular brands
In the latest collections of many famous brands you can find original models of denim sandals. Thus, the Italian brand Primadonna collection
offers a range of wedge heel products, among which denim options occupy a worthy place. The shoes are distinguished by a stylish round toe and a laconic design that includes metal elements.
Another Italian company – Napapijri
– creates amazingly beautiful shoes. Incredibly feminine sandals made of jeans with a polka dot print seem to be specially created for sophisticated romantic ladies. And the paisley pattern (its other name is “Turkish cucumber”) will decorate each leg, being a catchy accent of the ensemble.
LOST INK Company
(Great Britain), creating its shoes, focuses on extravagant people. After all, not every girl dares to wear denim sandals equipped with a platform with a 20-centimeter heel. This model paradoxically combines street style and luxury. Gold buckles add extra chic to the shoes.
Universal models Lorenzo Mari
, on the contrary, are suitable for every woman without fear of damaging her leg due to the high heels.
What to wear with
- If we consider color combinations, then denim shoes are most harmoniously combined with clothes in black and brown, red and orange. Outfits in light pastel colors also look good with denim, with the exception of pink and turquoise.
- As for combining different textures in an image, you should not combine denim with denim. The optimal solution in this case is clothing made of linen, chiffon or leather. You shouldn’t choose the same bag with denim shoes; it’s better to take a leather accessory.
- Feel free to wear denim sandals with urban-style trousers, light dresses, sundresses, and skirts.
- Lovers of the “sporty chic” style can complement denim sandals with a matching loose top, be sure to add a feminine accent in the form of jewelry or a glamorous lipstick.
How to choose and care
- When choosing denim sandals, give preference to a light shade of last, because it blends most harmoniously with denim. Choose the shade of denim according to your taste: stores offer a variety of shades: from light blue to dark blue.
- If you buy a model with a platform or wedge, make sure that the sole is not glued, but stitched - this significantly affects the life of the sandals.
- As for the specifics of caring for denim shoes, you need to clean them with a soft brush. Dry such products in natural conditions - this will avoid deformation.
