Potato cutter, for spiral cutting. Let's try to make a delicious snack.

Appearance and presentation on the table are the main components of the success of a prepared dish, because already with our eyes we begin to feel the taste of food. Experienced housewives create entire culinary masterpieces by cutting out figures from vegetables and fruits, just like cutting potatoes into a spiral breaks all ideas about the reality of food. Today we will learn how to create a real potato tornado with our own hands, using a knife and a special device for spiral cutting potatoes.

It seems that so much has been said and written about cooking potatoes that all that remains is to systematize this knowledge, collect it into one large encyclopedia and carefully store it, passing it on from generation to generation.

However, this is not a completely correct idea. If previously all the culinary secrets about potatoes and methods of preparing them could fit on one leaf of a cook’s book or simply in the housewife’s head, then with the advent of new varieties of potatoes, and with them their own nuances of preparing each, the requirements for the variety of potato delights have become more stringent.

So, for example, to spite a client of one American restaurant who was outraged by the excessive thickness of the potatoes in the served dish, chips appeared. The cook, in retaliation to the client for the returned dish, cut the potatoes as thin as he could, and then fried them and received snacks in 1853, which have gained enormous popularity in our time.

Potato cutting methods

Cutting potatoes has its own secrets: not just the taste of the potato, but also the final success of the dish you prepare depends on the chopping option. In any cookbook you can find a section “Cutting potatoes,” containing a description of simple (cubes, strips, sticks, slices, circles) and complex (barrels, shavings, spirals, garlic, balls) methods of cutting them.

Among all this variety, I especially want to draw your attention to how to cut potatoes into a beautiful spiral. You can see the entire process in great detail in our video. After all, deep-fried spiral potatoes turn out to be especially appetizing.

For those who are ready to master the process of cutting potatoes into a spiral with all the subtleties, we will show you step by step again in our photos.

Spiral potatoes on skewers in the oven

Once in one commercial I saw a special device for cutting potatoes into a spiral and a finished dish - golden-brown potatoes with a spiral on a skewer. I didn’t look for this device in stores, but I picked up the idea and now I very often cook such potatoes at home.

The most delicious potatoes from this recipe turned out when I cooked them with my granddaughter - she had so much joy when they took out the finished potatoes and invited the whole family to the table...

I have several options for preparing spiralized potatoes on skewers in the oven: I use different spices, cheese, breadcrumbs and every time the potatoes make my family happy.

I suggest cooking spiralized potatoes in the oven in the easiest way possible, using only olive oil, potato spices and dried garlic.

We take potatoes for the dish at the rate of one tuber per eater. Try to choose potatoes of the same shape and the same size, so all the tubers will be ready at the same time.

Wash the potatoes with a brush under running water and wipe dry.

Using a wooden skewer, pierce the potato tuber in the middle, as shown in the photo.

Using a knife, we begin to cut the potatoes on one side, twist the potato in a circle, as if imitating a spiral with a knife, without cutting off a potato circle, but slightly shifting the knife so that the circles remain connected to each other. It turned out to be more difficult to describe than it actually is.

Hold the potato with your hand and twist the skewer a little so that it moves easily inside the potato. After this, carefully distribute the potato spiral over the skewer. We do this with the remaining potatoes.

Don't worry if the first potato doesn't turn out to be a uniform or completely spiral straight away, the second one will be better, and then you can make a potato spiral just with your eyes closed, it's all a matter of practice!

Cover the baking sheet with foil. Lubricate each potato, outside and inside, with olive oil using a silicone brush.

Generously sprinkle the potato tubers with dried garlic powder.

We season the potatoes with potato spice with all our hearts. I have a spice - already with salt. If you don’t have salt, then sprinkle the potatoes with salt at this stage as well.

Place the baking sheet with the potatoes in a spiral on skewers into the oven preheated to 190 degrees C for 50-60 minutes.

Serve the finished potatoes with fresh vegetables and your favorite sauces.

You can remove the potatoes from the skewers and serve them in portions.

But it’s much more interesting to get potatoes like this on a skewer, you’ll agree!

Making a fixture

Making such a conductor is very simple. Take a regular jar lid and mark two holes. One hole is clearly in the middle, and the second is slightly lower from the edge. We center the marks to make drilling easier.

Use a thin drill to make two holes.

Using a regular stationery knife, cut the lid between the holes.

Next, using a flat-head screwdriver, bend the outer part of the cover as shown in the photo below.

The conductor is ready. Now we put the potatoes on a stick and start twisting them.

The result should be a spiral like this.

All that remains is to fry it!

Device for spiral cutting of vegetables (for carving)

I offer a not very serious review of a gadget for the kitchen and cooking: a knife, or rather a device that allows you to cut out the core of vegetables in the form of a spring.

For me, this is a small flashback to my childhood; there was a similar Soviet one (old school full metal), but over time it fell into disrepair or was lost. I couldn't find a replacement until today)))

So, we will talk about one of the options for carving - figured cutting of vegetables, which is used to decorate, for example, formal dishes. For me, this is just a tool with which you can brighten up everyday life a little and prepare something interesting for the child, and most importantly, together with the child)))))

I accidentally found this lot: Manual Screw Slicer Vegetables Spiral Knife Carving Tool. Don't look too hard at the price; usually something like this costs around a dollar or two. This is a tool that is screwed into a vegetable (by and large - there are no restrictions on use, but it makes sense to use it for potatoes, cucumbers, carrots, etc.), and cuts out a spiral spring from the core.

Then, with simple manipulations, you can make decorations from the resulting vegetable springs, for example, for a salad.

The device is simple, it looks like a knitting needle with two rings, sharpened like knives. The rings are located at an angle, and with rotation and slight pressure they cut out the body of the vegetable in a spiral. There is a handle that is removable so that you can pull the spiral out through the top of the knitting needle.

There was no packaging as such, everything came in a bag with bubble wrap. There are no instructions - just a handle and a knitting needle.

The handle is surprisingly comfortable.

The mount provides installation on the flat (flattened) end of the spoke

And these are the same two pointed rings, installed at an angle to form a spiral.

The tip is moderately sharp.

Small size, can be stored in a cutlery drawer.

Complete tool.

Do you need instructions for use? In my opinion, everything is extremely clear and simple)))

For comparison, I previously bought cheap sets (at the level of a fixed-price store) with similar tools - they hardly work,

This particular one's plastic knife broke very quickly.

And in general, the idea with plastic knives was not very successful from the start. But the metal one turned up successfully))

First, I’ll make fun of the cucumber. Cucumbers with large seeds and large cucumbers in general are not suitable. In other cases, something similar happens.

This spiral can be used to decorate a vegetable salad for a holiday or force a naughty child to eat vegetables.

Decorative pepper - not at all decorative, quite edible, but mega-spicy, I also took the seeds from China, grows on the window)))

How to quickly cut potatoes into thin spirals

Modern manufacturers come up with everything they can to make kitchen processes easier for housewives and help them prepare something original.
Now the question of how to cut potatoes into a thin spiral can be easily solved by looking at any supermarket and buying a tool special for this case. I have already purchased this wonderful device and am ready to show you how you can easily use it to make homemade potato chips. Yes, yes, potato chips are a favorite dish not only of children, but of adults. After all, what manufacturers offer us today can hardly be called a healthy diet, and therefore the homemade version of potato snacks will be much healthier and tastier. In addition, this method of serving potato side dish to the table looks very original and will effectively decorate any feast with its presence.

Undoubtedly, you can try using wooden skewers and cutting the potatoes with an ordinary kitchen knife, but it will take much more time to prepare the root vegetable. But you don’t want to spend the whole day in the kitchen!?

Travertine and Venetian plaster: DIY decor

Decorative plasters have recently become very popular in apartment decoration. In this review we will tell you how to make a decorative coating yourself without spending a lot of effort.

Despite the fact that the technology is quite accessible and understandable, you will still need a little experience working with decorative materials.

The following materials are required for work: quartz primer for porous surfaces, decorative lime plaster, decorative paints, masking tape.

  • brushes;
  • sandpaper;
  • metal trowels;
  • spray.

You will also need to prepare a small piece of plastic entrance mat (or a special sponge), a regular roller with a small pile and a foam roller with the smallest pile.

Main stages of work

First, prepare the surface and mark the area with masking tape. At the top and bottom we will mark the boundaries of the strips of future travertine.

Now you can carefully roll up the entire surface using quartz primer (it resembles water-based paint with an admixture of quartz inclusions; you can also consider the option of concrete contact). Due to its rough surface, the plaster layer will adhere very well.

After the soil has dried, you can begin applying plaster. Apply in small vertical sections 1-2 mm thick and several stripes wide.

Next, using arbitrary movements (jabs) using a sponge, we will create the texture of the future decor. After half an hour, you can smooth out all the protruding edges of the plaster using a trowel.

The next day, using sandpaper and a block, smooth out all remaining unevenness. Use a brush to clean all the grooves in the texture.

Using a foam sponge, apply a base dark layer of decorative paint. This must be done carefully, without missing a single section.

After another day, you can apply the base, the lighter part of the decorative paint. We apply it with a foam roller with minimal lint. And then we smooth it out with the flat of the trowel, having previously sharpened its edge a little.

Having obtained a matte surface, you can begin to iron the entire surface. We carry out the same procedure with light paint and now try to achieve a glossy surface with the entire surface.

We highlight the vertical textured stripes with a dark base layer and smooth everything down to a glossy surface.

Without waiting for it to dry, carefully remove all the masking tape and enjoy the work done! Details can be seen in the video below. The material was prepared based on a video from the YouTube channel “ Vladislav Demchenko ”.
