In this master class, my children and I will learn how to make flowers - crocuses from corrugated paper with our own hands. These flowers can be used to decorate cards, albums, and gifts. Making these flowers is very easy!

If your children are not yet familiar with crocuses, first look at them in the photo. What kind of flowers do crocuses have? What shape and color are the petals? What kind of stems? What colors of paper can we use to make crocuses? (Crocuses come in different colors. They can be white, purple, lilac, blue, yellow, lilac).

Materials and tools

To make bright spring crocuses from corrugated paper with a candy inside, we will prepare the necessary tools and materials. It is better to use corrugated paper made in Italy - it is denser than Chinese paper and is of better quality. But here it’s up to you to choose.

What you will need:

• corrugated paper (density 180g/m2),
• floral wire for stems,
• scissors, ruler, glue gun,
• small candies,
• LL40 threads.

For the bouquet, I chose paper of several colors, but you can make all the flowers in the same color as you wish. We choose small size candies for our crocuses. In my case, these are caramels with different flavors that my family loves.

Crafts with crocus flowers from foamiran

Crocuses are very bright and sunny flowers. They can come in different colors, such as yellow, purple or white, so you can use colored foamiran to make them. Tinting of parts for crocuses is not necessary.

Due to the high plasticity of foamiran, flowers made from this material look very realistic.

You can make a lot of interesting crafts from artificial crocuses made from plastic suede (as foamiran is sometimes called). Multi-colored flowers make a wonderful bright bouquet for home decoration; white crocuses are used to create wedding bouquets. You can also use these spring plants to make a cute wreath, photo frame, or Easter egg holder. Where to use artificial crocuses depends only on your imagination, because any product decorated with these flowers will look wonderful.

Do-it-yourself corrugated paper crocuses, step-by-step photos

From a piece of yellow paper 8x5 cm we form the center of the future flower with stamens. We cut the upper part of the segment into small fringe and slightly curl it with our fingers.

We stretch the workpiece a little in the middle and wrap the candy in it. We tuck the lower tail of the candy, but the upper one remains free. Using this tail, it is very easy to get the candy out later without damaging the flower itself. The candy itself is not glued and therefore can be removed without problems.

We glue the wire into the base of the center with the candy using hot glue and secure it with additional threads in several turns. The length of the wire for the stem in my version is 14 cm, but you can change it as you wish.

For the petals, cut the paper into 2x7 cm pieces and twist the top part 180 degrees. We secure this tail with a drop of glue and slightly stretch the upper part of the petal in the shape of a boat so that it becomes slightly convex. You will need three identical petals for one flower..

We secure the finished petals with threads around the center with the stamens in several turns and secure with a drop of hot glue.

We wrap the flower stem with a 1x10 cm strip of green paper from top to bottom, securing it at the base of the bud and at the end of the stem with hot glue.

Glue three narrow leaves. We cut them out from 1x8cm pieces of green paper. We try to do everything carefully so that in the end your work looks beautiful.

Tip: choose a glue gun with a narrow spout and a switch to regulate the degree of heating of the glue stick and prevent hot glue from flowing out of the gun uncontrollably. This way you can avoid burns while working and ultimately get an excellent result of your creative process in the form of a neat craft.

Work process

1. First of all, you need to fix the candy on a skewer. Having first unwrapped it, we twist the wrapper onto a skewer, you can use double-sided tape, you can do without it if the truffle is held on a stick. This procedure must be done with all chocolates. The quantity depends on you. It is better to take round candies, with one tail on the wrapper.

2. Next we will make the petals. The stores provide a huge selection of corrugated paper in color and quality. It is better to take a tougher one and several shades at once. Having measured the height of the candy, we will determine the height and width of the stripes. Our candy is not very large, so 14 cm by 4 cm will be enough for us. The height and width of the strip depends on the diameter of the truffle. The larger the candy, the wider and longer the strip is needed and vice versa. For 1 flower you need 3 strips. After we have cut the required number of strips, let's start creating the petals. Take a strip, fold it like an accordion and twist it 180 degrees. Then we bend it inward. We straighten all the edges; if anything sticks out, you need to trim it with scissors. Then we stretch it a little, giving it a concave shape.

Crocuses - one of the first spring flowers - give joy and anticipation of warmth, sun and love. Made using the sweet design technique, crocuses are perfect for putting bouquets of sweets into baskets. There are several options for making candy crocuses. Let's look at one of them using the example of a basket of delicate yellow-green crocuses.

For work we will need the following materials:

1. for flowers:

• candies, crepe plain paper,
• wooden sticks,
• scotch,

• scissors.

2. To decorate a basket with candy crocuses:

• small basket “hat”,

• sisal,
• ribbon “aspidistra leaf”,

11. Having stretched it, glue it with PVA, winding it from the petals down the stick.

12. Also secure the tip with glue. The candy crocus is ready. You can collect a basket of spring flowers.

13. Fill the basket with mena and cover it with sisal. We arrange our crocuses as your heart desires.

14. Decorate the handle of the basket with a ribbon and a felt butterfly.

15. Cut out thin strips of leaves from an aspidistra leaf, attach them with tape to a skewer and insert them between the crocuses. A ladybug will complement the spring picture.

To make flowers from foamiran look realistic, you will have to “conjure” their patterns. The main properties of foamiran are its plasticity when heated and the ability to maintain a given shape after cooling. It is thanks to these qualities that we will be able to give the desired shape to the petals and leaves.

To make your bouquet beautiful and juicy, it is better to make it from crocuses of different colors. A great combination would be a combination of purple, white and yellow crocuses.

Handicraft stores sell special molds for giving the desired shape to crafts made from foamiran and other plastic substances. These are quite convenient devices, but you can easily replace them with the help of available materials; to process a crocus pattern, for example, you only need an iron and a sheet of corrugated paper.

When making crocuses from foamiran, it is recommended to use different colors of material

Master class on processing crocus patterns:

1. Using the template, cut out 6 petals and 2 leaves for one crocus flower.
2. Heat the iron, setting the temperature to medium.
3. Place the petal on the iron for 10-15 seconds, then press it with your thumb onto a sheet of corrugated paper (this should be done with a pressing motion, rocking the pad of your thumb back and forth). The veins on a sheet of such paper should run along the petal. After all these steps, you will see that veins have appeared on the petal, and it has taken the shape of a real petal.
4. Process each of the six petals in this way.
5. If you are making a white crocus, then the lower part of the petal should be painted with a dry bed of light green color.

Petals treated in this way will not lose their shape for a long time. They look very realistic and three-dimensional. Using a hot method, you can shape the elements of any foamiran craft.

Putting together all the elements of a foamiran crocus

When the petals of all the flowers are ready, you can begin to collect all its elements together. When forming a flower, it is important to ensure that all the petals are at the same level. This is especially important for flowers with a small number of elements. This also applies to crocuses.

To form a medium-sized bouquet, you will need about forty crocuses. It is better if the composition uses artificial plants of different but compatible colors.

In addition to petals and leaves, to create a crocus you will also need a center. To make it, cut out a rectangle from yellow foamiran. Its height should be 3.5 cm and width 2 cm.

Making a crocus flower with your own hands:

1. Cut the top half of the rectangle into a fringe shape. Take the wire and, having coated the bottom of the rectangle with glue, cover it with it.
2. The bud of such a flower must also contain stamens. You can buy them at a specialty store or make them yourself. To do this, cut three pieces of wire 3.5 cm long and attach a small ball of yellow polymer clay to each of them. Place the structure in the oven, and after the stamens have dried and cooled, grease them with glue and dip them in semolina. Color dried semolina yellow.
3. Attach the stamens to the wire from different sides at the level of the fringe winding.
4. Take three crocus petals and glue them in a single row around the center so that their edges touch each other.
5. From the other three petals you need to make a second row. They are also glued right next to each other. Arrange the elements of the second row so that they cover the joints of the petals of the first row.
6. Wrap the bottom of the petals and the entire stem with green floral tape. As a last resort, you can replace it with threads of a suitable shade, but it is better to still purchase a ribbon.
7. Now you can glue the leaves. They should be parallel to each other, closer to the bottom of the stem.

Make the right number of crocuses for your arrangement. They will look most interesting if you collect them in a bouquet and place them in a wicker basket made in the shape of a flower seller’s bicycle.

Bouquets collected with your own hands are a good way to congratulate in an original way, give a gift, decorate your home and even save money. In addition, homemade sweets and flowers will delight the owner for a long time.

Materials and tools

Whatever bouquet you have to make, you will need almost the same materials. They are quite affordable. Some can be purchased at florist shops, some at sewing shops, and some at points of sale of live bouquets.

You will need:

1. Glue gun and sticks. This is a device that heats up solid glue. It flows in drops from the “nose” of the gun, which is very convenient when working with small parts.

Tips for creating candy bouquets

It’s easy to make bouquets of sweets and flowers with your own hands, the main thing is to understand the intricacies.

1. Making bouquets is a leisurely activity. A job done hastily will not be successful. In addition, in a hurry, you can get burned by glue or pricked by wire.
2. You should not skimp on materials, otherwise the entire work will look cheap and may fall apart.
3. You should work carefully, hiding extra “tails”, pieces of thread, and protruding wire. Such details reveal an inattentive craftsman; the work looks untidy.
4. At the same time, there is no need to try to recreate an exact copy of flowers, leaves from paper and candy wrappers. Artificial bouquets made by yourself do not pretend to be an exact match with natural ones, but rather to successfully imitate them.
5. Handmade gurus do not recommend using artificial leaves and other plastic elements in a bouquet. This deprives the work of its uniqueness; it takes on a noticeably cheap look.

You need to know when to stop when decorating a bouquet. A generous scattering of rhinestones, for example, will distract attention from the flowers, and due to too many petals, the flower will lose its grace and will simply be unrecognizable.

Templates for crocus from foamiran

When preparing to create foamiran flowers, the first thing you should think about is templates. After all, it is on them that you can cut out neat and identical petals. Of course, some craftswomen are able to cut out all the elements relying only on their own eye. Beginners should not experiment so much there, that once you make a template from durable paper, you will get a blank for crocus petals that will serve you for many years.

You should not throw away used templates; you may need them again after some period of time. It is better to put all the blanks you have made in a separate box, having previously signed all the details.

For simple flowers like crocuses, you only need two templates. The first blank will be the petal template. To draw it, imagine a tennis racket, draw the outline of a circle with a net and a small part of its handle. The entire template should be 5.5 cm in height, and 1.5 cm of this value should be occupied by the “handle”, the width of the template should be 2.5 cm. The blank for crocus leaves looks like a long and thin triangle, its height should exceed 2 – 4 cm, the size of the entire craft, including the stem. In order to make one crocus flower, you need to cut out 6 petals and two leaves using templates.
