But lighting fires is not a safe activity; it is much better to carry out this “operation” in special containers. They are sold in specialized stores, but if you wish, you can make a garbage stove for your dacha with your own hands.

There are several options, let’s take a closer look at each of them.

Method one. Upgraded barrel

Agree, the options described above using a metal barrel are hardly able to decorate your site. Therefore, you can do it differently.

First, you will need a diagram of the future structure, so we’ll draw it up. It will look something like this.

Preparatory activities

As for the materials, more of them will be required than in any of the methods already known to us. So, in addition to the barrel, you need to prepare:

5-meter metal profile (we will cut it into five equal sections);
5-meter steel rod;
a pair of loops;
1 m2 of welded mesh;
spark arrester (the diameter of its fasteners should be 11.5 centimeters);
200 grams of wire;
1.5-meter tin pipe with a diameter of 11.5 centimeters;
degreaser;
a handle with a wooden attachment attached to it;
bolts - 6 pieces, the same number of nuts;
electric jigsaw, metal files for it;
20 self-tapping screws with wide caps;
metal drill with a diameter of 1.2 centimeters;
grinder, circles for it - emery and for metal;

Having prepared everything you need, we begin to build a garbage stove for our dacha with our own hands.

The working process

Cut out the door. To do this, draw a straight line on the bottom to which this door will be attached. We cut along the line with a grinder, while making every effort not to touch the side walls.

We make a hole in one of the corners of the formed cut. It is important that it is close to the side wall of the structure and directly on the cut line. From this point we will move forward with a jigsaw.

We insert the jigsaw into the hole and carefully cut out the bottom of the barrel. We do not touch its upper part. We move extremely close to the edges of the barrel. A grinder, of course, is not suitable for this - only a jigsaw.

We make several holes in the door through which air will flow. We do them at the bottom, you can do them in any order.
If necessary, clean the barrel from paint or rust using a grinder with an emery disc.

We build trestles. For this we use five pieces of metal profile. The goats will consist of a pair of crosses connected by a rod. We connect the profile strictly at an angle of 90 degrees, for which we make a pair of holes in each of them and tighten them with bolts.
We degrease and paint the barrel, and do not forget about the elements of the goats. It is advisable to carry out these procedures in a disassembled state. We paint all the elements in several layers, after each layer we wait for the paint to dry completely.

We collect goats. We start this a day after painting. Be sure to place washers under the nuts and securely tighten all structural elements. The resulting strength is quite enough for the barrel and the additional weight of the garbage.
We install hinges and handles. To do this, we use a screwdriver and screws with wide caps.

Note! It is advisable to install the hinges with an assistant, as the door will constantly fall through.

We form a hole for the chimney. At the top of the barrel we draw a circle with a diameter of 11.5 centimeters.

Next, we cut this circle into a kind of “petals” with a grinder. We should have about ten segments. We bend the “petals” up so that they are positioned vertically.

We equip our dacha garbage stove with a chimney with our own hands. We install it on the “petals” so that they are inside. After this, we screw the pipe to the “petals” in several places with self-tapping screws so that it does not come off.
We install the grate. We do everything as shown in the image below.

Install the cover. We secure it with clamps, although we can resort to a homemade design made from bolts.

General advantages and disadvantages

When deciding how to burn waste, people are increasingly turning to outdoor fireplaces. Organizing an open fire in a number of countries is fraught with monetary and other sanctions. A stove installed in accordance with the requirements (away from houses, plantings and other fire-hazardous objects) allows you to get rid of waste and, sometimes, use the generated heat.

Fire releases harmful substances into the atmosphere. Combustion products at industrial facilities are captured by water treatment systems or other methods. Their efficiency does not reach 80-100% even with the introduction of modern technologies and design solutions. Home incinerators are equipped with early-stage purification systems, which means that even smokeless versions pollute the air with harmful compounds. Considering the predilection of the population of rural and suburban areas for burning waste, including plastic and other hazardous products, the effect is significant.

But private burning of waste, even using smokeless units, contributes to the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. It is better to limit it by resorting to alternative solutions.

Solid waste remains a promising source of energy, but today industrial and scientific structures are able to realize their potential in an environmentally friendly and efficient way. Home combustion of waste, although beneficial for the initiator, has a negative impact on the environment.

Method two. We use a metal barrel

An old, unnecessary barrel can be an ideal option for burning garbage. After some simple manipulations with it, you will get a container in which you can safely dispose of all the accumulated garbage. Of course, folk craftsmen have come up with a lot of options for converting a barrel into a stove, but we will look at just a few - the most effective and easiest to implement.

Bottomless barrel for waste disposal

A fairly simple option that does not require much effort or a large number of tools. In this case, the only equipment you will need is a hammer, a chisel, an electric drill and a bayonet shovel. The algorithm of actions should be as follows.

Step one. First, we take an old iron barrel and, using a chisel (if possible, this can be done with a “grinder”), remove its bottom.

Step two. Next, take a drill and make a couple of holes in the bottom of the barrel. They are necessary to ensure good traction during burning of garbage.

Step three. After this, we arm ourselves with a shovel and dig a small oblong hole (its length should be about 100 centimeters, width – 20 centimeters, and the depth should correspond to the height of the bayonet of the shovel).

Step four. Before we start burning garbage, we light a small fire in the pit (we use dry branches and paper for this), and place a barrel on top without a bottom, but in such a way that air from the pit freely penetrates into the previously made holes.

Step five. Now you can put garbage inside the barrel. We do this gradually, if we come across long branches, then it is not at all necessary to saw them - with proper traction they will soon turn into ash.

Barrel on bricks

This oven for garbage in the countryside is made with your own hands as follows.

Step one. We take a thick-walled barrel and make a large number of holes in its bottom. After this, we drill the same holes in the lower part of the container, approximately 1/2 of its height.

Step two. Then we prepare a brick base (such as in the image), not forgetting the spaces between the bricks necessary for normal air flow.

Step three. We place the holey barrel on the prepared base, put garbage in it and light a fire.

Note! It is quite obvious that this design is unlikely to be durable. And to extend its service life, you can place a smaller barrel in a homemade stove or, alternatively, strengthen its walls with sheet steel. In this case, after the internal parts burn out, they can be replaced with new ones.

Types of combustion devices

Iron barrel

Such a not quite dilapidated barrel can be turned into a fireplace for burning garbage. It has both pros and cons.

Pros:

Mobility (everyone can move the barrel to the right place on the site);
Lack of open fire (compared to a regular fire);
Control over the fire (if necessary, it can be extinguished immediately).

Minuses:

From constant exposure to high temperatures, the barrel will gradually become unusable and will have to be replaced;
If not positioned and used correctly, it can be as dangerous as an open fire.

a) We turn a barrel without a bottom into an oven:

Remove the bottom. The old “residents” of the country barn don’t have it anyway. Or it is so rotten that there will be no problems. If the barrel is new, then you will have to work.
We make holes in the bottom. They are needed for traction. They are easy to do with a drill or chisel.
We dig a hole. For fire safety, which will be discussed separately a little later, the barrel must be placed in a pit. Its length is approximately 1 m, and the width and depth are one bayonet of a shovel (about 30-40 cm).
We make a fire in the pit. Naturally, at this stage it should be small.
We install the barrel.
We put garbage in portions.
Thanks to good traction, boards, branches and other waste will burn without difficulty, leaving you with a pile of useful waste.

b) Turn a barrel with a bottom into an oven

Drill or punch holes in the bottom of the barrel.
We create traction at the bottom of the barrel (the same as in the case of the “bottomless”).
We are building a brick foundation. Be sure to take into account the required distance for air intake.
We put the barrel on the bricks.
Light a fire and add trash

Of course, it is less popular because it takes longer to build. And a branded oven from a store costs more.

Homemade incinerator

Let us dwell in more detail on the heater and brick stove, since everything is clear with the potbelly stove. It is enough to move it to the right place, and you can start burning. And here is the sauna stove

- a very interesting specimen. If it is no longer useful, do not rush to turn it into garbage. It is not so difficult to convert it and turn it into a recycler:

We remove the internal parts, in the end only the body and grille remain.
We make the body more durable by welding sheet iron to it from the inside.
We make a fire, load garbage on top and cover the structure with a sheet of metal so that there is no open flame. Air draft will be provided by a stone placed under this sheet.

Branded incinerators

Manufacturers of stoves unanimously claim that such stoves are comfortable, functional and aesthetically pleasing. This is confirmed by summer residents. If you compare ready-made stoves with barrels or home-made options, the advantages of the former are obvious. You don’t need to make anything or invent anything: you buy, install and use. Some people manage to not only burn garbage in them, but also heat water or cook dinner if the stove is equipped with a stove on top, and wood is burned inside, not polyethylene.

A conventional incinerator has two “floors”: a combustion chamber and an ash pit. An improved kit will also include a chimney or the stove mentioned above. As for appearance, there are round, square or barrel-shaped stoves - with or without handles and wheels. The steel body is coated with fire-resistant enamel. The volume varies: there are smaller or larger ovens, 160 liters. Prices also vary: from 6 to 15 thousand rubles.

The design of any furnace isolates waste, protects against sparks and allows for hassle-free collection of ash.

Garbage should be burned as far as possible from dry vegetation and flammable materials.
The fireplace must not be left unattended.
Do not get carried away with burning plastic and polyethylene: combustion products release toxic substances.
Do not burn garbage in dry, hot or windy weather.
Near the fireplace there should be a “kit” for extinguishing a fire - sand and water.
Do not place the fireplace on dry grass, boards or other flammable materials.
Access of animals and small children to the fire should be limited.

An incinerator barrel is an excellent solution for disposing of waste. Summer residents should know how to properly handle waste produced in their garden plots. Ignorance of the laws regarding waste disposal is no excuse for those who break them.

Method three. We use an old heater to dispose of waste

If you have an old sauna stove lying around, do not rush to send it to the landfill. Even if it is very rotten or rusty. We can turn a heater that has long been unusable into a fairly good garbage disposal by installing it at our summer cottage. We do it as follows. First, using available tools, we remove all internal elements from the heater - leaving only the grate and, of course, the body itself.

After this, we take sheet steel and weld it to the base from the inside, thus strengthening the entire structure.

In this case, we will be able to load garbage directly from above, although before loading large items, it is recommended to light a flame in advance using dry branches and paper. Directly during the combustion process, it is advisable to cover the stove with an iron sheet, placing pieces of brick under it - this will ensure the unhindered escape of smoky gases.

Ready-made solutions for waste incinerators

You can burn garbage not only in barrels. Various objects are suitable for these purposes, for example, the body of an old refrigerator, large buckets, stoves. You can build a special oven or purchase ready-made solutions.

A store-bought solution is more practical. If you don't want to poke around in the ground and rotten iron, you should think about buying one. An outdoor oven can be used for wood-fired cooking. The presence of an ash pan will make working with ash easier. Most models are equipped with a spark arrester, which makes operation safer.

The decision depends on the budget, the volume of waste, and the frequency of work. It is important not to neglect safety requirements and remember the appropriateness of such decisions.

Method four. Brick stove for waste disposal

Let’s immediately say that a permanent brick structure will last an order of magnitude longer than the metal waste disposal devices described above. And its aesthetic indicators are at a fairly high level, because such a stove will be a wonderful decoration for any suburban area. With average volumes of waste, a smaller structure will be required (only 115 units of brick will be needed), although if necessary we can increase its dimensions. The procedure in this case is given below.

Step one. First, we clear an area measuring 1x0.7 meters, after which we fill it with sand (the layer thickness should be at least 5 centimeters).

Step two. We lay the first layer of bricks along the perimeter of the future structure. We don’t use the solution for this, but put it “dry”. It is important that there is a slight gap between the bricks (at least 1.5 centimeters) to ensure good traction. In total, the first layer will require eight bricks: one each on the right and left, three each in the upper and lower parts.

Step three. After this, we lay down a metal grid (you can use reinforcing rods instead), which we welded in advance from thick wire. If we talk about our specific design with its dimensions, then it requires a lattice of 3 transverse rods and 14 longitudinal ones. At the same stage, you need to take care of the ash pan. There are several options here:

lay out a brick ash pit;
pour it out of concrete;
made of sheet steel.

Which option will be chosen does not play a special role, so we will not dwell on this issue.

Step four. We continue to build a garbage stove for our dacha with our own hands. For the next row we will also need eight bricks, but here we are already observing the dressing, so we are already laying two units on each side. We lay all subsequent rows in the same way, and, as in the beginning, we do not use the solution. The last, twelfth row is made continuous. We install an iron cover on top of it.

Note! Instead of a square “garbage” oven, it is quite possible to build a cylindrical structure. If we do this, we will definitely leave air gaps between the bricks necessary to ensure traction, and install a grate. To make such a grating, we can use both strong iron mesh and steel reinforcing rods.

When can you receive an administrative fine?

Violation of fire safety rules using open fire will result in an administrative fine. So if you decide to make a fire at your dacha on open ground without complying with the above requirements, you will be subject to a fine under Art. 20.4 Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation from 2000 to 4000 rubles. And if the fire causes a fire that damages a neighbor’s property, you can face a fine of 4,000 to 5,000 rubles. with compensation for losses.

The chairman of the SNT, who allowed such disgrace on the territory of the partnership, will pay a more significant amount - from 5,000 to 6,000 rubles, and in conditions of fire safety - from 15,000 to 30,000 rubles.

More complex designs

A more complex waste incineration container can be used not only for waste disposal, but also as a heating boiler. It is equipped with a tubular water heater and a steam vacuum pump that supplies water for heating or domestic needs.

Smoke purification makes such a boiler environmentally friendly and safe for the atmosphere, since harmful combustion products are absorbed and bound by water in the chimney. A boiler filled with cut branches, old rags and other household waste will provide heating for the house for a day. Pros and cons of burning waste in a barrel stove

Each design has both its pros and cons. Of the general advantages and disadvantages, the following positive and negative points can be highlighted.

Pros:

barrel-stoves are mobile and easy to move around the garden;
allow you to avoid open fire;
the strength of the fire can be controlled.

Minuses:

constant exposure of the barrel to elevated temperatures leads to wear and tear of the structure;

Oven operation

During combustion, sparks are formed that rarely reach the ground, but otherwise the stove is simple and trouble-free to operate. If you are lighting your creation for the first time, it is worth considering the following.

Before ignition, pour the soil (with a hose from a watering can) within a radius of 2 meters from the masonry.
For kindling, use paper, birch bark, dry branches of blackcurrant, raspberry, dry wood chips and firewood. Do not use flammable liquids.
Place the next portion of green tops into the barrel when the previous one is half burned. Do not press the tops in the barrel.
Don't be afraid of flames coming from the barrel, this is normal. Hot air from the firebox accelerates combustion.
To make it easier to load tops, install a reliable stand with a height of 15-25 cm near the stove.
Use a fork when loading tops and avoid contact between the fork and the barrel. Use a poker to guide the overhanging parts of the tops into the barrel.
Do not throw firewood into a barrel, it is ineffective; place firewood only in the firebox. Try to use less wood.
Drizzling rain does not interfere with combustion. In case of heavy rain, place the poker on the barrel and cover it with an iron sheet, continue burning the garbage.
Do not touch the firebox door handle or the barrel itself with your bare hands; it gets very hot.
After burning the garbage, cover the barrel with an iron sheet and place the poker between them. The result is a roof with a slope.

Legal requirements

Burning waste in the yard of a private house is regulated by certain regulations. These include Chapter 218 of the Fire Regulations. The last section of the law is the most important. It contains norms and guidelines that allow you to burn garbage without violations.

Materials of artificial origin cannot be disposed of in these ways: plastic bottles, film, bags and tires.

At the preparatory stage, the metal surfaces of the container are cleaned of paint residues. This can be done with a wire brush. Instructions:

A simple design diagram is drawn up.
Part of the lid is cut off. Leave 10-15 cm of metal where the pipe will be located in the future.
