If you have a large piece of corrugated cardboard, then you can easily make this vegetable outfit from it. This option is suitable for mothers who do not know how to sew. It's not difficult to do. You need to cut out two ovals of the same size from cardboard - one for the chest and one for the back. You can make them small. It is permissible to make stripes on the shoulders not of cardboard, but, for example, from a wide elastic band or red or green satin ribbons. On the front oval draw green leaves and a muzzle: eyes and a smiling mouth. You can do this with applique so that the Tomato costume does not get dirty from gouache. A good option is to buy self-adhesive, then the work will shine beautifully and the details will be bright.
The Tomato hat completes the look. You can put a simple green knitted hat on your child or make a cardboard one. To do this, measure the circumference of the head and cut out a strip of corrugated cardboard of that length. You need to add a couple more centimeters for fastening. Next, having tried the cylinder on your head, we fasten the edges with a simple stapler in several places. All that remains is to glue the sharp triangles of the stalk. Options for making a Papuan skirt
The most important part of this fancy dress is the skirt. It can be made from a variety of materials. The traditional option is to sew it from green or multi-colored scraps of fabric. Since the outfit will most likely be disposable, you can not cut out the leaves, but simply sew strips of material to the elastic band. What to do if the matinee or party is literally tomorrow, but there is no costume? Take a wide elastic band, measure the desired length for the waist and sew it into a ring. After this, cut the material into strips of suitable length and simply tie them to the base. A Papuan costume will turn out no less impressive if, instead of ordinary fabric, you use tulle, New Year’s rain (you will need quite a lot of it), a net made from bath sponges, or even film from audio/video cassettes. Don't be afraid to get creative and use the most unusual materials. You can even try making a skirt from cut-up plastic bags in bright colors.
Foam Tomato
To sew such an outfit for a boy, you will need a sheet of thin foam rubber and red and green satin fabric. If you decide to decorate such a Tomato costume with eyes and mouth, you will also need to have pieces of white and black material. We start by cutting out two identical circles from foam rubber. Next we place them on red fabric, folded in four, and trace the contours. We leave another centimeter of fabric along the edges for stitching. Cut out the parts with sharp scissors.
Foam rubber is placed in the middle between pieces of fabric and sewn in a circle. This is how we design the front and back parts of the Tomato costume. Parts of the outfit are sewn together so that the neckline and holes for the arms remain open. On the front part, an applique of a cheerful vegetable face is made, if desired. All that remains is to sew the hat. It is made from diamond-shaped wedges sewn together. A branch of the stalk is attached to the top. Under a suit, you can simply wear dark trousers and a white turtleneck or shirt.
Baby outfit
The next Tomato costume is suitable for a child in the younger group. You can separately sew a sweater and pants from knitted fabric with elastic bands at the waist and on the legs at the bottom. If you have a red turtleneck or T-shirt, then you can use ready-made costume parts. The main thing is that the entire main outfit of the vegetable is red. Additional elements will be a cap, which acts as a stalk, and a collar made of green leaves around the neck.
You can buy a knitted green hat and use felt to sew a bunch of petals sewn in the center. You can make a collar around your neck. Petals are sewn around the perimeter onto a strip of green felt. It is secured at the back with a button or hook.
Features of outfits for outdoor celebrations
Children's entertainment does not always take place indoors. If everything should happen outside, then you need to think about how warm the suit should be, as well as how to protect the child from unexpected precipitation so that the clothes remain dry.
The basis of a carnival outfit can be a sports jacket and pants, and in the summer they can be perfectly replaced by jeans and a T-shirt. It will be enough to sew a few original elements to the base or draw with felt-tip pens. This option is inexpensive and very convenient, and it won’t be a pity if dirt stains or several holes appear on it, because children rarely care about the safety of things.

Tomato outfit from dad's T-shirt
If dad has an old red T-shirt in his wardrobe, you can use it to make a wonderful Tomato costume for a boy with your own hands. First of all, you need to gather the collar to reduce the neckline, roll up the sleeves on the shoulders and hem them a few centimeters. The bottom of the T-shirt is rolled up and the elastic is inserted. All that remains is to fill the middle with filler. You can use foam rubber scraps, cotton wool or padding polyester folded into several parts.
Collar
The Tomato costume for a boy can be complemented with a collar with leaves. For this, it is best to use a familiar sheet of felt. The material is often used by craftswomen for crafts. It is soft, elastic and pleasant to the touch. Various parts can be made from it, since the fabric is perfectly cut and glued, the edges do not fray, so the parts do not require additional edging.
A leaf template is drawn on cardboard. Then, outlining the contours on the fabric, several such details are cut out. They are sewn onto a strip of felt, which is placed around the boy’s neck. You can secure it at the back with a button or Velcro.
A cap
The last detail of the costume will be making the hat. It is made from a piece of knitted T-shirt. To do this, cut out a strip of material and, wrapping it around the head, sew the edges. It turns out to be a “pipe”, the upper part of which must be pulled together and stitched in the center. To prevent the seam from standing out, the headdress is decorated with leaves. They are made according to the same pattern as for the collar.
Sew them in such a way that the leaves look in different directions. The bottom does not need to be turned up, as the knitwear will remain in good shape for a long time and the edge will not fray. In any case, such a hat will withstand the celebration until the end.

Making a Tomato Costume
There are two main ways to make a DIY tomato costume for boys: from fabric and from cardboard. If you have basic sewing skills, you will need:
- red fabric (satin, silk, taffeta or any bright fabric, preferably with a shiny effect);
- green fabric of the same texture;
— padding polyester or any other filler that will add volume to your product;
- a beret or cap in a suitable color scheme;
- dark tights or leggings;
- felt, buttons and braid for decoration.
- First, we determine how much red matter you will need for the tomato costume. With a roll width of 140 or 150 cm, you will need 70-75 cm for the main element, depending on the height of your baby. Plus, you can leave it for decorative elements or make a hat with your own hands.
- We make a cut for the main element. Based on the drawing, we mark the main lines of the cutting elements with tailor's chalk, a thin piece of soap or a simple pencil. We take a piece of material and sew together a kind of pipe, leaving slits for the hands.
- Using the same pattern, we make a double lining. That is, it will need twice as much fabric. It turns out two elements that we sew together. We fill the inside with filler - padding polyester or any other.
- Sew the lining and the main part - the body of the tomato is ready!
Autumn fungus is a favorite children's holiday character
A mushroom costume is, indeed, one of the most common outfits for a children's autumn party.
The most important thing about it is the hat. There are a great many options for its manufacture. The simplest one is to cut out a circle from colored material or cardboard and, folding it into a cone, fix it with a stapler or glue (if you took cardboard, then paint it according to your idea). The radius of the circle is approximately 45 cm.
Fly agaric hat
To work you will need:
- red cloth,
- white shreds,
- cotton pads,
- glue,
- scissors,
- padding polyester
Cut out a circle from red fabric (see figure above). The width of the circle is taken arbitrarily, but not more than 50 cm.
We randomly sew cotton pads onto the fabric. Sew the edges of the product from the inside out.
From white fabric we make a circle of slightly smaller diameter than the previous one. Both pieces, leaving a hole of about 2-3 cm, are sewn together with their right sides facing each other. We fill this hole with padding polyester and sew it up.
We make small ribbons. You can put a white organza ribbon along the edge. This will give the hat a fluffy look.
A fly agaric hat can be made from polka dot fabric. And to make a basic suit, use white satin or twill.
Boletus mushroom made of papier-mâché
To work you will need:
- unnecessary beach ball,
- paste,
- foam rubber,
- scissors,
- newspapers,
- White paper,
- gouache.

We tear the newspaper into small pieces. Using paste, glue half of the ball with these pieces. Paste it in several layers.
We are waiting for it all to dry well.
We also make small pieces of white paper and cover half of the ball with them again.
Let it dry thoroughly.
We deflate the ball. We trim the edges evenly and cover them with brown paint.
We make a circle out of foam rubber, leaving a slot for the head. We put the foam circle into the hat and fix it.
The top of the hat can be decorated with leaves and mushrooms made of colored cardboard.

We cut out leaves of different shapes and sizes from felt. Sew to the neck. For cutting, you can use curly scissors and/or sew bright buttons in the form of bugs or dew drops onto the leaves.
