DIY incense stand. How to make a stand for incense sticks

The East has been trending lately. Many people have begun to become interested in oriental medicine; oriental motifs can often be found in the interior. Yoga and various types of therapy, including aromatherapy, are popular. If you are into aromatherapy, then you have probably used incense sticks. These sticks fill the room with pleasant smells, but when they smolder, they fall onto the table or floor in the form of ash. To prevent this from happening, incense sticks are placed on a special stand that functions as an ashtray. You can buy a stand for incense sticks or make it yourself if you want the decor to be original. And in this article we will tell you how to make a stand for incense sticks from polymer or ordinary clay.

DIY incense stand in 3 minutes

Original and simple ways to create holders for incense sticks.
Oriental scents can create a calming and peaceful atmosphere in the home. To feel lightness and tranquility, sometimes it’s enough just to light some incense and relax, inhaling the aroma and watching the thin stream of smoke.

Special stands for placing chopsticks are sold in stores. But if you don’t want to spend money or prefer to create home decor elements with your own hands, then in a few minutes you can make your own holder from available materials.

– a round piece of wood,

- stick of incense.

Wooden blanks can be purchased at hobby stores or cut from wood yourself and processed.

Drive a nail at an angle into one side of the wood block. There is no need to hammer the nail in hard - its purpose is only to make a hole for the sticks.

Then use a hammer to remove the nail. The hole for the incense sticks is ready! All you have to do is place the incense and enjoy the smells.

The stand can be painted with special paints, varnished, or beads and other decorative elements can be glued on. Together with a set of incense, this will be a great gift for family and friends.

If you have not found a suitable wooden blank, do not despair. There are many other materials from which a similar stand can be easily made.

Making a holder for incense sticks from clay

Ideally, you can make a decorative holder from clay yourself. Moreover, it can be of absolutely any form, in the form of an animal, a person or a plant. However, in this case, firing will be required to obtain a ceramic product. But not everyone has the opportunity to use a muffle furnace. In this case, modern materials will come to the rescue.

So, an excellent material for making a decorative stand would be self-hardening polymer clay. From it you can make a beautiful bowl, a statue of a small Buddha or a frog with small holes for incense sticks. Within 24 hours, the polymer clay will dry out and turn almost into stone.

You can also use plastic. This polymer clay needs to be fired, but in order for the material to harden, 200 degrees is enough, i.e. conventional oven.

Incense stands made of plaster and salt dough

The most economical option is to create a stand from salt dough. The ingredients are available in every home, they are inexpensive, and to make an amazing and unique accessory for incense, you only need imagination and a little free time.

To make the simplest stand in the form of a pebble with small holes for sticks, you will need wheat flour (1 cup), salt (1 cup), water (0.5 cup).

First, mix salt and water, then add flour and knead until a thick consistency holds its shape. After this, you can start creating the holder. After drying, the finished product should be painted or varnished.

You can also make a nice, stable figurine from plaster that will hold incense sticks. To do this, just make holes at the top with a toothpick.

In addition, decorative gypsum products can themselves become sources of aroma if you drop a few drops of your favorite essential oil on them.

The same applies to dough crafts. It takes very little time to make incense stones from flour and salt. Previously, we wrote how to create such products.

Preparing for work

To work you will need the following materials and tools:

  • acrylic roller for cutting clay;
  • 2 small bags of polymer clay in a base color;

  • 1 small package of polymer colored clay for colored stains;
  • parchment paper;
  • aluminum can.

Incense stand

We are obsessed with all sorts of Indian stink sticks that fill the house with the magical aroma of flowers, spices and boundless joy. At first, out of stupidity, we started looking in stores for stands for such sticks, found nothing, and remembered that we are famous handicrafts. On this occasion, here are instructions with pictures, as we like.

  • The board is 30 cm long, 4.5 cm wide and 1.5 cm thick.
  • Sanding paper, file.
  • Stain.
  • Brush.
  • Drill and 2mm drill bit.

We decided not to waste time on trifles and make two stands at once. Therefore, we sawed off two 30 cm planks.

Sand your workpieces thoroughly using sandpaper and a file. We rounded the edges for aesthetics.

Well, round edges are somehow safer.

Next, we need to make a hole in the board for the stick so that it is located at an angle. We decided to make the angle of inclination larger so that the stick hung lower and the ashes did not have to fall from it “for a long time.” So, mark the point for the hole using a ruler and pencil.

Using a drill and a 2mm drill bit, make an angled hole. Not end-to-end.

Try on the stick to see if the hole is thick enough.

Then we take the stain. We chose the shade mahogany. For convenience, pour the stain into any suitable container (plastic plate) and cover the board with it on both sides. The stain dries quickly, so act quickly. We made one layer for the bottom of the board and covered the front and sides in several layers.

We leave the coasters to dry for a couple of hours, or even overnight.

All is ready. Buy sticks. Our favorite is Amber. This is a truly concentrated India.

As you can see, all the ashes remain on the stand.

Clay preparation

Divide the clay into smaller pieces and roll them into small balls to make them softer. Then combine them all and roll the clay into a sausage. Place on a sheet of parchment paper.

Use a rolling pin to flatten the cylinder so that it is about 2.5cm wide and 1cm or more thick. The length is up to you. Break the clay of a different color into very small crumbs and sprinkle them on the rolled out base.

Now gently roll the rolling pin from one end of the piece to the other to press everything together, then work back and forth across the clay until everything is a little thicker than 0.5cm.

Use a clay cutter or knife to cut off the edges to create a rectangular shape.

What types of jewelry organizers are there?

The variety of organizers for jewelry and decorations defies classification. They take a wide variety of forms: pencil cases, boxes, all kinds of hangers, stands...

Depending on the location, the organizer for storing jewelry can be:

  • Desktop. Its place is on a table, chest of drawers, shelf - in a word, on any horizontal plane. Decorations in them can either simply lie or be stored in a suspended state (for example, on an impromptu tree).
  • Wall-mounted. Organizers of this type are hung on a wall or other vertical surface. These are mainly all kinds of frames and boards with various fastening systems (nails, hooks, ribbons, door handles, chains, and so on).
  • Floor-standing. These are the most voluminous and bulky options installed on the floor. These are floor hangers and decorative trees, which also serve as interior decorations.

Whatever your organizer, its main purpose is to provide optimal conditions for storing jewelry. Ideally, they should be located away from heat sources, avoid damp places and direct sunlight.

Making a stand for incense sticks

Prepare polymer or regular clay so that its consistency resembles plasticine.

Roll out the clay on a hard, flat surface, and cut out a rectangle from the resulting layer using a knife. Smooth the surface of the clay.

Using a small mold, apply a pattern to the surface of the clay.

Using a wooden skewer or wire, pierce a hole for the incense stick.

From a strip of metal, make a template with which one edge of the clay rectangle can be bent and fixed until the clay dries. Let the clay dry for 24 hours.

Divide the stand into sections using masking tape and paint. Cover the top with spray varnish.

Bake

Place a piece of parchment paper on a glass or aluminum jar until it completely covers the cylinder. Then carefully transfer the strip to the parchment paper on your jar. This will give it shape while it bakes. Place two small pieces of clay under the sides of this jar to stabilize it, and place everything in the center of the oven. Bake according to the clay manufacturer's directions.

Now you can experience aesthetic pleasure when you light your incense.
