Motorcycle trunks and bags become important when you get tired of riding around the city and want to get away somewhere far away. Carrying cargo larger than the volume of a briefcase on a motorcycle is not an easy task, and panniers will help solve the problem. Due to the variety of motorcycle models, it is often difficult to find suitable mounts and cases on sale, and many motorcyclists make motorcycle cases with their own hands. And in this article we will look at the most interesting works of our compatriots.
Side cases
A fairly common source material for cases are canisters.
Plastic
The following video shows how to make plastic side cases from 28L cans.
Judging by the video, they are made quite simply, and the functionality and appearance are at the same level. We recommend viewing.
Metal
In a similar way, you can make side cases from metal, or rather from metal canisters.
Mounts for different motorcycles are different, so we will not focus on them, but will look at the entire step-by-step manufacturing process:
Stainless steel side cases
The base of the case is a sheet of stainless steel, bent into an oval and attached to a wooden bottom.
Thanks to the thin walls, voluminous drawers were obtained.
The lids are also made of metal and are secured with fabric straps. The straps also allow you to attach additional cargo on top, which significantly increases the volume of transport.
Next, we cover it with self-adhesive film to match the color of the motorcycle.
The saddlebag mounts are made individually for each motorcycle model.
a very beautiful and inexpensive option for long journeys.
Plastic cases from tool boxes
A simple and quick option to get comfortable panniers for your motorcycle. No need to be fancy with lids and fittings, no grinder or welding required.
Why is it so important to follow age recommendations when buying a motorcycle?
Always try to buy a motorcycle based on the age of your child. This will provide your baby with maximum riding convenience, comfort and safety. After all, the position of the gas pedal, seat and steering wheel relative to each other, convenient for a child of one age, will not be suitable for another. This will lead to rapid fatigue and stress on the vestibular apparatus and spine, and as a result, loss of coordination and problems when driving. Remember that good coordination and balance are especially important when riding an electric motorcycle.
In addition, the functions implemented in tricycles for children, for example, a remote control for parents, are completely unnecessary for older children. At the same time, a small child may simply not be able to cope with a two-wheeled model recommended for older children.
You will not only introduce your child to the world of motocross, drive and breakneck speeds, but also help him develop coordination, balance, courage and imagination.
And the online store site will try to make sure that your children always have toys nearby that will help them quickly learn new and useful skills.
In the modern world there are a considerable number of creative people who are able to turn even the oldest things into something original and interesting. Many people who are not indifferent to motorcycles do not have the opportunity to buy a motorcycle for some reason. There is a way out for them - to assemble the bike with their own hands.
Not every person can assemble a motorcycle on their own. This requires a lot of time and patience. You need to use all your love for bikes as inspiration. Thanks to this, it will be possible to assemble a very good vehicle at home, which in any case will be unique.
You need to be prepared that when creating a motorcycle with your own hands, a large number of difficulties may arise. It’s not uncommon for designers to make non-standard decisions. For beginners building their own motorcycles, it is best to start by assembling the simplest models.
All homemade motorcycles are unique. Not many bike lovers know how to make a motorcycle with their own hands. This requires a lot of effort. It is impossible to do without knowledge of the design of each model of motorcycle equipment and without the necessary materials.
In any case, when creating homemade motorcycles, the ideas of craftsmen who have long developed original models of motorcycles for various manufacturers are taken as a basis.
Homemade motorcycles are designs that, in all their functional qualities, do not differ from the motorcycles offered by manufacturers. For them, amateur designers use spare parts and components from various types of motorcycle equipment. Each creator of a homemade motorcycle has the opportunity to develop for himself a bike that will meet all his requirements.
Homemade motorcycles may have different technical characteristics. They can be whatever is necessary for any motorcyclist. In most cases, amateur designers create sports motorcycles and dirt bikes. Moreover, the latter can be equipped with elements of sport bikes.
Central case
Side saddlebags are good for long journeys, but the central one is a convenient thing for the city. It can be used as a glove compartment to remove the helmet when stopping and free your hands, so as a rule the capacity is at least 1 helmet, and often 2.
Side bags, as a rule, are hung directly in front of the long-range vehicle, so the requirements for them are somewhat lower, and they can be made independently. The central trunk is usually always on the motorcycle. Therefore, store-bought options are preferable.
Factory cases already have a key lock so you can safely leave things in it; many models have additional brake lights and turn signals installed.
An electric motorcycle for the brave racer.
The boys always liked everything that had at least a little speed and risk in it. They have seen motocross races on TV more than once, heard the roar of engines, and now they themselves will have the opportunity to touch this world of speed.
Such electric motorcycles are equipped with a 6-12V battery and are designed for one passenger from 3 to 8 years. They can drive at a speed of 3-4.5 km/h for 1 – 1.5 hours. A child riding an electric car - a motorcycle - has the opportunity to send sound, light and even musical signals.
Children of this age can already begin to master riding a real two-wheeled motorcycle. To be on the safe side, they can be equipped with an additional pair of small wheels. If a child loses his balance, they, if they do not protect him from falling at all, will significantly soften him.
An electric motorcycle will be an opportunity for a boy to gain his first driving skills and will help develop coordination, navigation skills and, of course, suggest a plot for a new entertaining game. After all, during games, children always imagine themselves to be part of a special world created by them.
Hard cases or bags - what to choose?
In this video, a comparative analysis will be carried out - what is better to use - trunks or bags?
A small photo report about how I made my panniers the day before the trip, so to speak, in a hurry.
Materials: plywood, galvanized, shoe nails and thin screws, thin drill, leatherette with backing, latch lock for boxes from a construction store (there was no time to embed normal ones), buttons from a stationery store))
First I drew several variants of the form.
I sawed blanks out of plywood, assembled the boxes with screws into the drilled holes, then nailed the galvanized sheet with thin nails into the end of the plywood, it turned out rigid and strong.
The inside was lined with carpet, the ends with leatherette.
Then I covered the end with leatherette with a backing - it hides the unevenness and gives it a mini-volume. Then I sewed up the side panels in the same way.
I punched the front part of the case with pushpins in the desired pattern.
I made the covers at speed, because... A trip to Voronezh for the closing of the season was scheduled for tomorrow. It was not possible to quickly make normal locks, like on boxes in supermarkets, so without bothering, I installed latch locks from household goods. Then I realized that the top bar could have been secured from the bottom of the lid, but it presses better from above. If desired, you can hang a mini-lock on it.
I hung it on the motor with two bolts slightly longer than the standard ones, through a large washer. Loaded within 15 kg, everything was fine, didn’t tear off. In principle, a spacer between the panniers under number would not hurt; they wobble on bumps, but not critically.
The standard turn signals had to be removed, and repeaters from a VAZ-2101 were embedded in the trunks, LED bulbs were installed, but I want them even brighter, it’s a little pale during the day.
In terms of capacity - 2 5-liter bottles fit with a whistle, and there is room left.
The leatherette from the muffler does not melt, the gap is sufficient for air circulation. When getting on a motorcycle, sometimes I touch the corner of the case with my shoes, marks remain, but I wiped it with a rag - and everything is fine. It hasn't been exposed to rain, but dust doesn't pull in, everything is clean.
Transport for young racers
Game elements in the form of transport always attract the attention of children. After all, sitting behind the wheel of an almost real truck or motorcycle, it’s so easy to imagine yourself as a dashing racer.
The easiest way is to buy such a complex, but it is much more interesting to make it yourself. The main criteria that must be adhered to when making a car for the playground with your own hands are safety and aesthetics. All parts must be firmly fastened together, making sure that bolts and nails do not stick out. If the car is wooden, plan the logs and boards well, protecting children's hands from splinters.
Wooden train
Train made from sawn wood
Mobile sandbox
Idea for old tires
You can make a car for the playground from a wide variety of available materials. Even if the game element only vaguely resembles a real car, it doesn’t matter. Children's imagination knows no bounds, so a simple log can turn into a racing car or a passenger train. A mandatory attribute of any vehicle is a steering wheel. It will be great if it becomes a real steering wheel. However, you can also do it yourself; realism is not at all necessary.
Children's wooden cars
Look at the photo - these wooden cars for the playground look very cute. To create them you will only need boards, logs and a little bright paint.
You can use ready-made boxes of different sizes. A large container will make a truck body or an entire bus, and smaller containers will make a cabin. A sandbox designed to look like a car looks interesting. For this purpose, the sides are made higher, wheels are attached to the sides, and a cabin is attached to the front.
Simple wooden car
Using the same principle, you can make an unusual motorcycle for the playground with your own hands. Its basis will be a small bench, the steering wheel will be blocks of wood. Wheels can be real or cut from OSB sheet.
Toy transport made from tires
It is very popular to decorate a children's playground with car tires. Game elements made from this material are durable and, most importantly, safe. Rubber is less traumatic than wooden or iron parts.
For the little ones
From old tires you can easily make unusual cars or a motorcycle for the playground. This type of transport is suitable even for the smallest children.
Metal game elements
Craftsmen who own a welding machine can build a metal car. This complex, which includes a small horizontal bar or ladder, is perfect for older children. If there is a seat in the car, it is better that it be made of wood.
A car made from a real old body will cause special delight. It is enough to clean it of rust, paint it in a bright color and attach a steering wheel. Thus, an item intended for recycling will acquire a new life.
Metal play complex made of pipes
Metal trunks from fishing boxes
The panniers are very easy to make from two fishing boxes. The plumbing work is minimal as the hinges and latch are already installed on the drawer lid. It is only necessary to make suitable fastenings and decorate them (for example, cover them with thin foam rubber and then cover them with leatherette). Thus, a winter aluminum box with dimensions 31 x 20 x 30 cm (volume 18 liters, weight 1.4 kg) costs only 980÷1100 rubles. There is no doubt about the strength of this design due to the fact that the box is designed for an adult in full winter gear to sit on it.
The history of mini-bikes
Today, the market for goods for little ones can offer a huge range of children's gasoline motorcycles. The history of their creation began in distant Japan, and they were not intended for children at all. Mini bikes were designed for local racing. The first models appeared in garage workshops, where motorcycle enthusiasts assembled bikes in makeshift conditions and from scrap materials. Small dimensions significantly improved performance, including maneuverability, making it possible to quickly overcome small city streets. A little later, teenagers began to turn their attention to homemade models, which led to an incredible demand for children's mini-motorcycles powered by gasoline. And already in the mid-70s of the 20th century, several companies from the USA established their production. Modern children's gasoline motorcycles are produced not only on the American continent, but also in Europe and Asia.
Cases made from plastic canisters
The process of making panniers from plastic canisters is in many ways similar to making side racks from metal containers. The only difference is that plastic cases have insufficient rigidity, so to manufacture them you will have to install additional metal elements (strips and sheets) that strengthen the structure. The main disadvantages of this method include the large labor costs and the amount of time it takes to make plastic luggage racks for a motorcycle (compared to metal counterparts). And although plastic cans are much cheaper than metal cans, additional costs for metal and hardware can reduce the cost savings to nothing.
Electric motorcycles for girls.
Not only boys, but also girls can take part in this game. If, of course, they have their own motorcycles: bright, colorful, decorated in the style of Disney cartoons about beauties and princesses.
The creators tried to give these motorcycles an unusual design, which also shows that the owner of the toy is a little motorcycle racer. But for all their sweetness and tenderness, these are real motorcycles and tricycles, with all the functionality inherent in boys’ models. Who said that a young lady can't be brave!?
Homemade leather trunks
Leather has been and remains the most favorite material for various biker accessories. You can sew trunks from this material yourself.
Required tools and materials:
- tape measure, metal ruler, marker, narrow construction knife, needle with a thick eye, groove cutter;
- a piece of leather (saddle leather, 3÷4 mm thick), thick synthetic threads, accessories (buckles, fasteners, rivets, etc.).
How to make leather trunks:
- From thick cardboard we cut out patterns for all parts of the future case (sides, bottom, closing flap, etc.), taking into account seam allowance (0.7÷0.9 mm).
- We lay out the finished patterns on the back of the leather and trace them with a marker.
- We cut out the blanks using a construction knife.
- Using a groove cutter and a wooden mallet, we make holes in the places where the individual parts are fastened.
- We sew all the parts together using a thick needle and nylon threads.
- We strengthen the corners with special rivets (holniten).
- We attach all the necessary accessories (buckles, frame holders and decorative elements). The result: we have made strong and durable trunks.
To make a motorcycle hip bag, leather with a thickness of 1.0÷1.5 mm is sufficient.
Electric motorcycles for the little ones.
types are recommended for children of different age groups.
. For the youngest children, it is better to purchase the simplest small electric vehicles - tricycles:
These are small in size and quite easy to operate models, reaching speeds of up to 2.5 km/h and working without recharging for 1 - 1.5 hours. They can give sound and light signals, move forward and backward.
Some models are equipped with a remote control, with which parents can simply give the youngest motorcyclists a ride or provide assistance to children who are already able to control an electric motorcycle themselves, but are not yet very confident in doing so. Adults, if necessary, can always intervene in the riding process, keep it under control and ensure the safety of their child, even from a distance. Such an “assistant” will save you from having to be near your baby all the time, because now you can help him at a distance of up to 20 m.
At the same time, your child will have the impression that he has overcome all the obstacles himself!
Some models even have drawers in which your baby will be very proud to transport small loads or .
Thanks to the small size and excellent maneuverability of the electric motorcycle, your child will be able to ride it even around a city apartment.
Motorcycle panniers made of plywood
The advantages of such a material as moisture-resistant plywood (in the manufacture of trunks) include:
- ease of processing using an electric jigsaw or circular saw;
- availability and low price;
- ease of connecting individual parts to each other using glue, self-tapping screws, wooden blocks and metal corners.
The disadvantage of this material is the impossibility of manufacturing motorcycle side racks with complex curved geometric shapes from plywood. Such a box is attached in the same way as metal or plastic products.
Children's sports bikes
Sports motorcycles designed for young audiences are equipped with wide wheels that provide better stability. The design has a wide frame and a modern control system. Some models have the same power-to-weight ratio as professional sportbikes. To operate such motorcycles, you must have certain driving skills, as well as be able to fully concentrate on the road.
Such motorcycles have enough power to accelerate to a speed of 24 km/h. Therefore, when wondering how much a children’s gasoline motorcycle costs, you need to consider the cost of a protective suit and helmet, which will help avoid serious injuries. You should not save on your child's health.
Children's motocross bikes
As a rule, motocross motorcycles are used in sports competitions, as well as for riding on rough terrain. They are as lightweight as possible, have a fast and powerful engine, which allows them to overcome various difficult off-road areas, for example, swampy areas, sand dunes, etc. Taking into account the wishes of teenagers, the designers decided to create children's cross bikes, which in their characteristics are very similar to their “big brothers.” " They are just as reliable, have excellent suspension, a durable frame and a powerful engine, which is usually a two-stroke. A boy who decides to become a motorcycle racer can begin training at the age of six, if, of course, his parents give their approval.
