What you need for sewing

In addition to the trousers, which are no longer in use, you will also need other materials:

• Pillow filler. Ideally, it will be natural fluff. But such filler must be purchased separately in specialized stores. In addition to natural filler, you can use synthetic filler. Sintepon or holofiber can be cut from an old jacket or down jacket. The same filler can also be purchased in the store.
• Durable lavsan threads for sewing. It is better to choose these particular threads, since in the future they will hold the product well.
• Cord for decoration. If you plan to make a shaped pillow, you will need a round rope with which you can make an edging.
• Decor elements. This can be any available material: pompoms, tassels, rhinestones, scraps of other fabrics or faux fur.

Other tools:

• Scissors.
• Tape measure or pattern paper.
• Sewing machine or just thread and needle.
• Denim is so easy to sew that you can even sew it with ordinary thread and a needle. A sewing machine is not required for this at all. But with its help it is much easier to sew the product.

How to make a simple pattern for a pillow?

Before starting work, jeans must be washed and preferably ironed. If you have never come across such unusual creativity, below are some simple ways to create a pillow.

First you need:

• ☘️Cut off the belt;
• ☘️Make a cut from the waist to the crotch in front and back;
• ☘️After cutting the fabric along the seams along the hip line on both legs;
• ☘️Next, we take a line of crayons and cut out several rectangular parts. One piece should be the size of the pillow, the other two pieces should be 10-15 cm wider.

Step-by-step sewing instructions

To sew a pillow from jeans with your own hands, you need patterns. They determine the shape of the pillow. A simple pattern can be created directly on the fabric. To do this, use a tape measure to make marks on old jeans or a jacket and cut out pillow squares.

The optimal pattern size for a sofa pillow is 30 cm X 30 cm. When the pillowcase is full, it will become a little smaller, but at the same time more voluminous. For a living room, you can choose a slightly larger pillowcase size - 40 cm X 40 cm. For pillows in a children's room, the size can be slightly reduced to 25 cm X 25 cm.

Important! When calculating the size of a pattern, it should be taken into account that when stuffed, the product will become 4-6 cm smaller.

It is very rare to cut even large squares out of jeans. Here you can cheat - cut the front part of the pillowcase from the part of the product where the pockets are located. This option will look very stylish.

It's easier to cut out the part with the pocket from the jeans.

Advice. It is better to sew a pillow from simple calico and a pillowcase from denim. Then the pillow will last longer, and the pillowcase will be easier to wash. In this case, you don’t have to create the pillow itself, but take a ready-made one.

Easy way

The easiest way to sew a denim pillow is to create it from two squares. At the same time, if there is not enough fabric from old jeans, then the sides can be replaced with any other fabric. A colorful fabric with a bright pattern is best suited for this.

Step-by-step instruction:

1. First, two squares are created.
2. They are sewn together on three sides. The fourth side is sewn halfway. The seams are processed.
3. The pillowcase is turned inside out and stuffed. Or a ready-made pillow is inserted into it.
4. After this, the pillow is sutured.

If you plan to make the pillow not plump, but rectangular, then you need to create a pattern of squares and a long flap that will go around the perimeter of the pillow. The seams between the squares and the rectangular flap are stitched with rope. After this, the fabric is also turned inside out.

Using patchwork technique

For a rustic interior, a patchwork option is suitable. The same technique can be used to create large items and small items.

Instructions:

1. First, a general pattern is created and the size of the product is determined.
2. In addition to denim, other elements are selected: patches of cotton, viscose, wool or even fur.

Denim hexagon pillow

To make the pillow more streamlined and without hard corners, make it out of hexagons. However, cutting and sewing this shape is much more difficult. But in everyday life it is more convenient and pleasant.

Step-by-step instruction:

1. First, draw a hexagon on paper.
2. Using it, cut out fabric from jeans. Or create an ensemble from scraps of different fabrics.
3. A hexagon option - this shape in the center and trapezoidal patches around the perimeter. Cutting such patches is easy and just as easy to sew.
4. The composition looks bright and harmonious.
5. After both hexagons are ready, you need to connect them together. The corners of the seams must be trimmed. Process the seams themselves either by machine or by hand.
6. It is important to smooth out the seams. It is precisely because of the well-processed corners and seams that the pillow will retain its hexagonal shape in the future.
7. At the end, the product must be filled with filler.

It is much more difficult to make a pillow from hexagons.

Other ideas

In addition to the standard denim pillow options, you can come up with many more creative ideas:

I found original, unusual ideas on foreign websites, and sewing pillows is quite simple.

In these options, the pillowcase is sewn from additional, preferably plain, fabric, for example, canvas.

And the denim details are sewn on top of the front side of the pillowcase.
