Selecting fabric and taking measurements
Before sewing a cardigan, you will need to take measurements of the chest, hip, arm and wrist girth. You will also need to know the length of the arm, the length of the entire product and the test measurement for shoulder length and arm length. Then you need to go to the store for a suitable fabric.
Note! A cardigan can be made from tweed, mohair, neoprene, cashmere, knitwear, angora, wool, footer, boucle, suede, mink, fleece and leather.
Cashmere cardigan
It is most pleasant to work with melange knitwear. For a standard product you need to take fabric with a width of 180 centimeters. If the width of the fabric is 160 centimeters, and the girth is over 120 centimeters, then you need to take one roll of knitwear and add another meter per sleeve.

The beauty of a cardigan is that it can be sewn using any fabric. At the same time, using the presented pattern it is possible to make a jacket with a robe and a kimono.

To get started, all you need to do is master simple knitting techniques. Each needlewoman starts with a standard set of loops. There are many of them, but for now it’s enough to master the classic version.
The working thread is tied on two folded needles and tightened, then placed on the thumb. The second part of the thread, which will now hold the edge, lies on the index finger.
The needles are threaded from left to right, forming a new loop. The thread on the knitting needles is tightened and another approach is made.
Preparing for armhole processing
Take the ribbing, fold it in half, right side up, and iron it in the middle. You should end up with a “book” along its entire length.
Then fold each outer side along its entire length so that the edges point inward. This bend should be small, one centimeter on each side is enough. Use the iron again to get an even edge. Cut the strip into four parts (if you originally added the length of two armholes) or into two parts (if you cut out each sleeve separately). You should have four pieces: two strips for the front and two for the back.

"Rice" pattern
For many experienced needlewomen, this form of knitting may resemble crochet embroidery on canvas. It can often be heard under the name "Rice", or the more beautiful "Pearl" pattern.
In each row we alternate the purl with the front loop. In the next row, if there was a knit stitch, then we make a purl loop.

Place a large sweater on the table surface and place your child's small sweater or shirt (this will work too) on top, securing it with pins. Outline the contours of the back and front so that there are a few centimeters left around the perimeter for seam allowances.
You shouldn’t make the vest too big, but it’s also not recommended to skimp on fabric so that the product has a loose fit. Place the small sweater so that the bottom elastic of the larger item is engaged. Using scissors, cut out the pieces along the marked lines. The neckline and armhole should be cut, focusing on the child's item (make sure that the corner of the neckline with the toe is in the center).
After this, measure the length of the armhole (on the back and front details), as well as the length of the neck (including the back). Cut strips of the same length and width of approximately seven centimeters from the prepared elastic band.
Knitting tools
Knitting needles vary in thickness and are usually numbered. In this case, it is optimal that they should be thicker than the working thread.
They are divided into metal and wood. You can knit a sweater in any way, but it is believed that for beginners it will be easier to work with wooden ones. It is more difficult to “lose” the loops from them, and sometimes it can be difficult to “put” them back on the knitting needle.
There are also regular, circular and double needles. Circular ones look like two small knitting needles connected by a fishing line.
Hosiery knitting needles are two small, usually metal, knitting needles designed for knitting socks, hats and mittens. For a sweater, you will need regular and round knitting needles for tying the neckline.
Elastic band 2x2
This combination is often used in work when you need to knit the elastic of a sweater, sleeves, and in some cases a collar.
The most popular is the 2x2 elastic band. It is used in blouses, socks and other things. This happens by alternating two purl loops with two front loops.

Armhole processing
Mark the armhole on the back piece in a “book” of knitted elastic so that the cut is in the middle and secure with pins. Feel free to baste if you prefer pinning to sewing. Do this on both halves of the back armhole. Then carefully machine stitch along the edge of the ribbon. If you are sewing by hand, try to sew the tape on both sides of the back material.
Do the same with half the armhole of the front piece. If it is difficult to align the sides of the ribbon, sew one and then the other. Remember that the neatest seam should be on the front side, so first sew the tape to the back and then to the front surface of the product.
