What dimensions can a homemade shield have?

The ring itself, with a diameter of 45 cm, can be easily bent from a tube or rod. It is attached to a metal corner with bolts or welding. The dimensions of the fasteners themselves are not so important; only a 15-centimeter distance between the ring and the shield should be maintained.

Setting up a basketball corner

The minimum distance between posts is 3 meters.

Foundation installation

Installing a flat cement surface involves the following work:

removal of fertile soil layer. It is necessary to dig up 40 cm of soil, first removing a layer of grass and then a small layer of soil. This is necessary to lay a drainage cushion before laying the main covering;
then geotextiles are laid on the soil. It comes as a single piece, so you must first cut it to size into separate pieces that can be laid both horizontally and vertically. The main thing is that they overlap each other by at least 30 cm. This will prevent subsidence of the upper drainage layer. Sand should be poured onto it and leveled; the approximate thickness of this layer should be 15 cm;
a geogrid is laid, which will serve to strengthen the entire structure. It is made in the form of cells, which are half filled with sand and covered with crushed stone on top. Using special tools, the latter is compacted to a thickness of 15 cm;
pouring cement in several stages, this is necessary to create expansion joints. With their help, the top coating will be permanently fixed on the cement plane, and moisture will pass through them faster.

If you still decide to lay the main surface of the sports ground on the ground, then you should remove a small layer of grass from the laying site and fill it with sand, not reaching the edges in height.

Choice of coverage

Sports turf

The easiest way is to sow this area with a sports lawn. Its grass mixture must include varieties of meadow grass. He will protect her from trampling. But it requires constant care. Thinning areas should be continually reseeded with new, fast-growing grass, and the lawn itself should be mowed every four days. Before laying it, it is necessary to provide a drainage system and ensure constant watering.

Special mixture

The next coating is a special mixture. It consists of sand, lime and clay soil. Materials with large particles are used as a drainage layer for it, but between them and the special mixture it is necessary to lay geotextile fiber, which will protect these two layers from erosion and mixing with each other. This is one of the cheapest ways to create a protective layer on sports grounds. It is noteworthy that its maintenance does not require much trouble; after the formation of irregularities, such a coating can be easily restored.

Wooden laying is rarely used for sports corners, under which it is necessary to make a strip foundation. It is raised above the horizon by about 10 cm to ensure rapid drying after rain. But this option is short-lived and traumatic, as it affects the ankle.

Roll coating

Roll coverings are easy to maintain. After installation, you don’t have to wait long; after a week you can already run and play sports on them. Its installation is carried out only on the drainage layer and foundation . In addition, it has seams. Its production takes place entirely in production, and this affects the high cost.

Regupol

Regupol is a rubber version of roll coating. Its base must be made of concrete or asphalt, and they must be perfectly smooth, otherwise unevenness will be reflected in the top layer. This is a fairly reliable and durable installation, but it can also lag behind the base over time.

For those who put quality and convenience first, they should make a platform with self-leveling coating. It has many advantages over other types: it has no seams, does not require special care, is easy to install and is also easy to restore. Required materials and tools

To prevent the shield from falling apart after several hits from the ball, you need to use durable wood materials (multi-layer plywood, MDF or fiberboard) or high-quality thick plexiglass to make it.

What else is needed:

electric jigsaw;
tape measure, square, long ruler and marking pencil;
bolts or self-tapping screws and metal brackets for attaching the shield to the support;
narrow and wide flange brush;
waterproof paint in red and white;
sandpaper;

How to choose a location for a basketball court

It is necessary to approach this responsibly, not to forget that this place for basketball will be constantly used and the ball will be played on it. Therefore, you should immediately choose a site that is located far from the house and garden. Depending on the soil and groundwater, a basketball court cannot be located in the following places:

near bodies of water - if a ball hits it, ornamental plants in the pond or children playing happily in the pool can be injured;
on the slopes . All sports fields require a perfectly flat surface for proper play;
in the lowlands After numerous rainfalls, the sunken area may take a long time to dry, and therefore its use will not last long;

: Frame

Bend a piece of flat metal, mine was 4mm thick.
Weld it to a flat point in the ring.
Cut two rods to 320 mm length.
Cook them as shown in the photo.
Drill four holes to match the size of the bolts you have.

Materials and tools for making a shield in the yard

Professional basketball backboards are made of transparent, unbreakable plastic. At home, they use boards on a frame, moisture-resistant plywood and chipboard, OSB and MDF boards. We decided to make a basketball backboard for a children's playground from 16 mm thick plywood. Since the plywood sheet was not of sufficient height, it was built up from below with a board with a section of 25x120 mm. To make a basketball backboard outdoors, you need the following tools and materials:

brown and white PF paint;
emery cloth;
self-tapping screws;
masking tape 50 mm wide;
electric drill and jigsaw;
flat brush;
roulette:
square;
pencil.

: Color the shield

Once you have all the lines drawn on the backboard, place masking tape over them. If you try, everything will look neat.

If you are using MDF, you will need to take care to protect the edges from moisture (as shown in photo 2).

Carefully paint the areas around the masking tape.

Remove the masking tape once you have applied enough coats of paint and the board looks finished.

Making a basketball hoop with a net

The basis for making a homemade ring can be a strip of metal with a cross-section of 40x4 mm, a tube with a diameter of 15-20 mm, or a sports hoop. It is easy to bend the strip using a large diameter object as a mandrel. To bend a regular steel tube, you will need a pipe bender. The easiest way is to cut the desired segment from the hoop and fasten the ends again.

To simplify the task at home, the ends of the ring can be screwed with self-tapping screws to a wooden block, which can easily be secured to the shield. The ring should be painted in several layers of weather-resistant red enamel. Drawings of the ring according to the standard are presented in the following photo.

The mesh on the ring is often considered an unnecessary element. However, it is designed to throw the ball in a certain direction and is necessary for serious play. The mesh can be tied from twine and secured through 12 holes, which must be drilled evenly along the diameter of the ring.

It is more correct to weld a series of wire loops to the ring. As a last resort, pieces of rope can be secured around the perimeter of the ring with loops, and then tied together to form a mesh. For the simplest example of making a mesh with your own hands, see the following video.

Bag

(Fig. 173) is woven from threads, twine, and cord. Prepare a block of thick plywood or thin board according to the size of the bag: for example, 20 centimeters high, 22 centimeters wide. Drive nails with a diameter of 2-2.5 millimeters into one end of the block at a distance of 2 centimeters from each other (Fig. 173 (2)). You need to cut twice as many pieces of rope as there are nails driven into the block, hence 22 pieces. The length of the segment should be four times longer than the bag, that is, 80 centimeters.

Each piece of cord or twine is folded in half, connected in pairs with a knot (Fig. 173 (3)) and secured to a nail. Then the pieces of rope are distributed as follows: from one nail to one side of the block, and from the next nail to the other side of the block. Now you can start weaving the bag. What knots are used to weave it? From each nail there are four segments, which we will denote by numbers 1, 2, 3, 4. When tying a knot, the first segment is thrown from the left side to the right, and the fourth - from the right side to the left. Then vice versa (Fig. 173 (4)). The 2nd and 3rd sections remain in the middle of the knot. In subsequent rows, knots are tied from two sections from one knot and two sections from another knot (Fig. 173 (5). Bag weave until the ends of the segments reach a length of 8-10 centimeters. Then they are tied two or four together with an ordinary knot, resulting in the formation of tassels. After this, the bag is removed from the nails, a cord is threaded through the loops and a headband is made (Fig. 173 (6) Handles are attached to the rim, which are woven in the same way as the rim (Fig. 173(7).

: Color the ring

First you need to sand the metal. I used a sanding disc on my grinder.

The ring should not be black or white, it should stand out relative to the shield. Typically the ring is orange or red in color.

The easiest way would be to spray paint the equipment.

Results

Which ring is better, homemade or purchased? There is no clear answer here. A homemade product performs sporting functions and is aesthetically pleasing to family members and friends of the manufacturer.

Even if outwardly it is a little more unsightly than store-bought. In addition, homemade is designed for certain loads . Whereas a store-bought product, it is unknown how long it will sag under harsh conditions.

On the other hand, a high-quality, expensive ring with a shield, produced at the factory in compliance with all sizes and GOST standards , handmade, is unique. So it’s up to the players to choose.
