How to sew a towel turban with your own hands for drying

These bath accessories are decorated with pockets and appliques. The pockets are functional. You can put gold jewelry in them, since during your stay in the bath they get very hot and can burn the skin. If you want to wear a sundress-towel, then we also sew on ribbons (you can do without them)

Sew the other half of the Velcro on the other side. The bathhouse is considered an incredibly unique place where beauty and health reign. But to get the full benefit of visiting it, you need to prepare properly. There is nothing complicated, just take all the necessary supplies with you. You can buy a ready-made set or assemble it yourself, which, by the way, will be much cheaper. A mandatory attribute, without which not a single trip to the bathhouse can take place, is a kilt, which resembles a cape - it is something between a sheet and a towel, and a turban that is worn on the head. Such products are expensive in the store, especially if it is a kit, so it makes more sense to make it yourself. Actually, in this article we will look at how to sew a bath towel with Velcro.

Rules for taking measurements

A knitted hat for a child is sewn according to 2 main measurements. This is the circumference of the head and the depth (or height) of the product. For a hat with ties that covers the ears, you also need to know the measurements for the side depth of the hat.

The main measurements and measurement technology are given in the following table:

Measurement nameHow to measure
Head volumePlace the measuring tape above the ears at the level of the eyebrows, at the back - along the most convex part of the back of the head.
Cap depthMeasure the distance up to the forehead from the crown to the point between the eyebrows, back to the base of the skull and along the sides to the edge of the earlobe.
Rear WidthMeasure the distance from your earlobe to the posterior center line at the base of the skull.

To create a hat pattern, take any pattern from a sewing magazine as a basis or print out a ready-made pattern. You can also trace the outline of another baby hat and add seam allowances.

Handmade bath sundress is the squeak of fashion!

We will learn how to sew an incredibly comfortable and indescribably beautiful sundress! How to sew such a wonderful product? Very simple! For those whose hands grow out of place, we stock up on the following:

  • a towel (size and color is a personal matter for each beauty);
  • braid;
  • material for decoration;
  • rubber band;
  • Velcro;
  • needle and thread.

We take a towel and put it on the table. Sew an elastic band to the wide edge. We cut out strips of fabric and sew around the edges of the product (you can also make a pocket). We take Velcro, apply it to the inner front shelves of the sundress and secure it. Using braid or tape, we form the straps (you can, of course, do without them). Do you have any fabric left for decoration? We form a bow or flower from it and attach it to the bath sundress. Voila! The miracle dress is ready!

The simplest manipulations will allow you to create a real masterpiece. The right bath towel will give you a mind-blowing experience. At least the female half will definitely appreciate it!

Simple version of the product

It is recommended to iron the fabric before cutting. If the knitwear has a pattern, it is necessary to position the pattern so that the objects are placed centrally or symmetrically around the center line.

A knitted hat for a child, the pattern of which can be created in just 10 minutes, can be single-layered or with a lining.

First you need to decide on the size of the hat: measure the volume of your head and choose the desired height of the product.

Next, to create a pattern you need:

  1. Divide the head circumference measurement by 4 and make a deduction for the stretch of the product (for dense fabrics, subtract 0.5 cm, for thinner and more elastic ones - 1 cm).
  2. On a sheet of paper, construct a rectangle with the following parameters: the width is equal to a quarter of the circumference of the head, taking into account the necessary deductions, the length is the height of the hat with an increase of 5 cm for the lapel (optional).
  3. On the left side, move 2.5 cm from the corner to the left, and down ¼ of the height of the cap. Connect the dots to get a dart.
  4. Round the upper left corner of the rectangle.
  5. The resulting part is ¼ of the cap.

Knitted hat for a child, a simple pattern.

  • To create half of the hat pattern, attach the resulting piece to a sheet of folded paper so that the side line with the dart coincides with the fold line, trace the template and cut it out.
  • Preparing fabric for cutting

    The length of the fabric cut for the hat depends on how it will be cut:

  • If the product is single-layer, then a fabric size equal to 1 cap length plus an increase for the lapel will be sufficient.
  • For a two-layer model without a seam on the bottom fold, you will need double the length of fabric.
  • If the hat is double-sided, made of knitwear of different colors, you need to take 2 pieces of fabric, equal in length to one size of the length of the hat.
  • Sequencing

    The main characteristic of knitted fabric is its elasticity. It can stretch in one direction or in two. When cutting products, you should pay attention to the main direction of stretching and place the pattern strictly perpendicular to the direction of the stretching line.

    For correct cutting you need:

    1. Fold the piece of fabric across the stretch line with the right side facing inward.
    2. Attach the hat pattern, trace it with chalk or pencil and cut out the resulting parts, leaving a 1 cm seam allowance.
    3. When cutting out two-layer products, the fabric needs to be folded across and separately cut out 2 parts with a fold at the bottom.
    4. To sew a hat with a lining, cut out 4 identical parts or 2 parts with a side fold.

    How to sew a kilt for a bath and sauna in 15 minutes from an ordinary bath towel.

    And it’s better if it’s a microfiber towel, I’ll explain why.

    Firstly, this towel is very light and takes up little space in your bag.

    Secondly, it absorbs moisture well.

    Thirdly, it is easy to wash and dries quickly.

    Fourthly, it lasts a long time, does not leave puffs and does not lose its color.

    Fifthly, it is pleasant to the body, very soft and gentle to the touch.

    Sixthly, a very low price (150-200 rubles)

    In general, there are only advantages.

    Let's start sewing a pareo, or, as it is also called, a kilt for a bath.

    I took a microfiber towel, size 140 x 70. A regular terry towel is also quite suitable.

    1st step: We wrap ourselves, see how wide the wrap we can afford to make, on average it turns out to be about 20-25 cm. We mark with chalk.

    Step 2: Take tape, braid or cut a strip of cotton fabric for an elastic band 100-115 cm long. The elastic can be any, narrow or wide. Depending on the width of the elastic band, choose the width of the braid.

    Step 3: Leave 1 cm from the top edge of the towel and attach our braid.

    Step 4: Measure yourself with an elastic band, stretching it a little, cut and thread, securing the edges with a machine stitch.

    Step 5: We sew Velcro onto the edge of the almost finished kilt. You can sew loops with buttons.

    All! Our bath kilt is ready. Enjoy Your Bath!

    Sewing

    A knitted hat for a child has a simple pattern that even an inexperienced craftswoman can handle. Sewing a hat takes no more than 30 minutes.

    To complete the work you need:

    1. Place the cut pieces right sides facing each other and pin the edges together with sewing pins.
    2. Sew the edges on a machine and overcast them with an overlocker or a special machine stitch.
    3. To ensure even seams, iron the product with an iron.
    4. Sew the darts in one line. Carefully align the previously stitched seams to create a beautiful intersection of lines on the front side.
    5. Finish the edges of the dart with an overlocker.
    6. Sew the bottom of the hat with an overlock stitch and fold it inward by 2-2.5 cm. Pin the hem and sew the edge on a machine, departing 1.5 cm from the fold.

    Pareo for different occasions

    Some people go to the bathhouse with enviable regularity to maintain health, for others this is a rare occurrence. If you often visit the sauna, a practical mid-calf-length model made of ivory terry cloth is suitable.

    It is desirable that the pareo has a great smell, and also comes complete with a turban and slippers.

    For those who occasionally go to the bathhouse with friends, you can choose a stylish option, because it is clear that even in the company of close friends you want to stand out and be brighter and more interesting, even if there are no men nearby.

    If you are going with a large group of couples, then the women's pareo for the bath and the kilt of your friend or spouse should be combined in shades and texture.

    At least it will look very impressive.

    Budenovka pattern

    Budenovka is primarily associated with the clothing of the men of the Red Army. This hat can be given as a gift or souvenir with a focus on history for the elderly. Young people use these elements in military style. The pattern can also be used when sewing carnival costumes. There is a hero with whom many children are introduced - Malchish-Kibalchish. As a result, many people are looking for where they can buy such a hat, but they don’t always find it, so there is only one option left - to sew a budenovka with your own hands.

    Benefits of Wearing a Kilt

    A kilt for saunas and baths is a piece of natural fabric that is wrapped around the body and securely fastened with fasteners. It performs an aesthetic and hygienic function, is a bath garment and protects intimate areas on the male and female body during procedures.

    If necessary, secure fasteners can transform a traditional bath towel into a functional kilt. This is quite convenient and practical, especially when there is no time to buy a finished product, and ordinary bath towels are always at hand.

    The kilt is a traditional skirt that is part of the folk dress of the Scottish Highlanders. Woolen fabrics were used to sew skirts, which provided reliable protection for the lower body from the cold.

    A modern bath kilt when visiting a steam room is designed for quick absorption of moisture and good air exchange.

    The advantages of the product include:

    • quick transformation into a bath towel;
    • high moisture-absorbing characteristics;
    • reliable fixation on the body;
    • freedom and ease of movement;
    • sewing from natural materials;
    • practicality, durability and wear resistance.

    It’s not for nothing that many dare to sew a bath towel with Velcro with their own hands, because it has many advantages, the main of which are:

    • Ability to easily transform into a sheet or towel.
    • Ability to absorb moisture well.
    • The ability not to hinder movement.
    • The ability not to slip off the body.

    A bath kilt can be for women or men. They differ from each other not too significantly:

    1. The men's model is slightly shorter, but wider.
    2. Women's accessories are made taking into account the distance from the top of the chest to the knees. They are attached by smell, that is, one piece of fabric is placed on top of another. But to increase the strength of holding the kilt on the body, Velcro is also used.

    Important! In terms of decoration, kilts are quite diverse: men's kilts mainly have elegant decor in the form of embroidery, women's models are decorated with ribbons or bows.

    Beanie

    To make a hat with a flip at the top of the head, you only need to sew 3 seams. Job completion time: 10 minutes. To cut a hat, you need to place the fabric in front of you and set aside along the stretch line a size equal to the circumference of your head and subtract 4 cm for tension. Measure 55 cm in height and cut out the part.

    The nuances of making a beanie hat:

    • First you need to fold the rectangle in half, perpendicular to the stretch line, align the side cuts and pin them together with pins.
    • Next, lay a straight machine stitch along the edge, leaving a hole (5 cm long) in the seam for subsequent turning of the product.
    • The next step allows you to create a curl at the top of the head. To do this, you need to place the stitched part in front of you vertically, take the upper right corner and align it with the lower left corner of the rectangle. Then take the top left corner and align it with the bottom right corner.
    • The bottom cut produces 4 layers of fabric. The middle 2 layers need to be moved slightly inward and the 2 outer layers need to be pinned together.
    • Next you need to start sewing the chipped sections together using a machine. Having reached the opposite edge, you need to do the following: gradually begin to straighten the folded edges and continue sewing in a circle. As a result, the machine stitch will be laid along the entire lower circumference.
    • After stitching, the product must be turned inside out. The hole must be sewn up on the front side with a hidden seam or machine stitched.

    Materials

    You won’t surprise anyone with terry bath accessories, but they are not cheap. There are other, more budget-friendly fabrics from which towels and clothes for the sauna are made. Let's take a closer look at what materials are used to sew a kilt.

    Mahra

    The most popular bath linen, as it is dense, fluffy, pleasant to the touch, absorbs moisture well and has excellent air permeability. Terry warms in drafts and does not retain heat in hot weather. It is durable, practical, and has a large selection of textures and colors. Using a terry kilt, you can run from the pool to the steam room several times, take it off and put it back on your wet body. In this case, the kilt does not have to be endlessly twisted, as happens with thin fabrics. But a very wet product will take a long time to dry. It weighs more than thin fabrics and costs more.

    Waffle fabric

    Significantly inferior in density to terry fabric, but has its advantages:

    • light;
    • dries quickly;
    • endowed with hygroscopic properties;
    • hypoallergenic;
    • It's inexpensive.

    The waffle product can be rubbed in the bath, massaging the muscles to improve blood circulation. The biggest disadvantage of fabric is that it gets wet quickly.

    Linen

    It is a natural, dense, wear-resistant fabric. It has good thermal conductivity, dries quickly, and does not stretch. But at the same time, a linen kilt wrinkles easily, gets wet quickly, and is also see-through.

    Bamboo

    Viscose bamboo fiber, especially when mixed with cotton, is exceptionally suitable for bath accessories and kilts in particular. The product consists of fluffy threads, is a good thermostat, and can absorb and retain a large amount of moisture. The fabric is strong, durable, does not collect odors, is easy to wash, it does not fade or shrink during washing. A kilt made of bamboo fabric provides excellent air circulation, making it impossible to freeze, sweat or overheat.

    Cotton

    Cotton is the most abundant fiber on the planet and is added to many natural and man-made threads. Kilts made from pure cotton are soft and pleasant to the touch, “breathe”, quickly absorb moisture, have good hygienic properties, and are inexpensive. But cotton wrinkles easily, shrinks during washing and takes a long time to dry.

    Lined

    A lined hat is made from a knitted outer material and lining fabric. If you plan to wear a hat with a lapel, then the color of the lining should be chosen so that it is in harmony with the main color of the hat. To sew, you need to create a pattern or use a ready-made printed pattern. A lined hat can have a classic cut, a beanie shape, or a model with triangular ears.

    To sew a hat with a lining, you need to do the following:

    1. Cut out 2 pieces from the main and lining fabric.
    2. Turn the hat base blank inside out and sew the back seam and darts.
    3. On the lining piece, sew a back seam and a front dart. Leave the middle undercuts unsewn.
    4. Place the lining piece into the base blank. The front sides of both parts should be facing each other.
    5. Sew the bottom edges with an overlock stitch.
    6. Turn the hat right side out through the hole in the lining. Sew the hole closed with a blind stitch.

    Styles

    Bath dresses made of terry can be decorated with embroidery and are most often made in one color; some styles are sewn with pockets. There are models with lace and bows or with ruffles at the top. Some bath towel dresses are sold complete with a turban, mitten or bath slippers. The choice of colors is very wide: pink, blue, red, green, yellow, olive and others, you can always choose according to your taste.

    Pareos made of waffle fabric most often come not only in one color, but also with patterns, for example, on a bath theme or imitating a tartan check.

    Some of the styles resemble the traditional pareo, whose homeland is the island of Tahiti. Other models look like dresses on the figure, since they are made with straps at the ends of the panel; the strap on the right side goes over the left shoulder and vice versa. In this case, the back remains practically open, and the bath dress becomes very similar to an elegant evening dress.

    Pareos can also be seen as part of gift bath sets.

    Bath dresses also vary in length: above the knee, to the knee and to the middle of the shin. For a dry bath (sauna) it is recommended to choose a longer pareo, and for a wet bath, on the contrary, a shorter one.

    Double sided

    A knitted hat for a child (the pattern and cutting diagram are presented later in the article) can be sewn from one piece of material and look exactly the same inside and out. Before sewing, you need to create a pattern.

    To do this you need:

    1. Take a sheet folded in half and set aside from the fold an amount equal to ¼ of the length of the head circumference, and at the top measure the length of the cap and build a rectangle from the resulting points.
    2. From the top, retreat 2.5 cm from the fold line, and down a distance equal to ¼ of the length of the cap. Connect the resulting points and cut the corner along the line.
    3. On the other side, smoothly round the corner of the rectangle.

    The resulting part is a pattern for half of the hat. When cut from the bottom and left, it will have folds.

    To cut and sew a hat, you need to do the following:

    1. Fold the fabric so that the fold lines on the fabric coincide with the fold lines on the pattern, and cut out 1 solid piece of the hat with undercuts and seam allowances.
    2. Sew the middle undercuts using a machine.
    3. Fold the piece in half with the right side inward and sew with a continuous stitch in a circle. For turning inside out, leave an unstitched space of 4-5 cm long.
    4. Turn the hat inside out through the hole left and sew it with a hidden seam.

    In addition, you can sew a simple scarf from the same fabric with a button closure. To do this, sew a rectangle of the desired length (so that it fits freely around the neck) from the inside out around the perimeter using an overlocker. Sew a fabric loop on one narrow side. Next, turn the product inside out through the hole left and sew on a button.

    What are they?

    Bath dresses are made from the same fabrics as ordinary towels. Pareo can be:

    • Makhrov. Terry fabric is most often made from cotton, however, it can also be made from linen with the addition of cotton.
    • Waffle. This is 100% cotton.
    • Made from linen fabric.
    • Made from bamboo fabric.

    Cotton pareo

    When choosing a pareo for a bath, you should pay attention to the properties of the fabric from which this clothing is made. Two types of bath dresses are made from cotton: terry and waffle.

    Terry fabric absorbs moisture well and produces a light massage effect; does not cause allergies or irritation to the skin, due to the fact that it is made from natural materials.

    Terry is very practical: it is highly wear-resistant, a high-quality product made from such fabric can withstand hundreds of washes, and you don’t have to worry about the item shrinking or, conversely, stretching. Terry fabric tolerates washing perfectly at a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius, which allows you to get rid of dirt and germs.

    The disadvantage of terry fabric is that it takes a long time to dry. In addition, a terry product, which absorbs moisture very well, has a thick and high pile and is therefore quite heavy. The fabric must be protected from contact with objects that can get caught in the pile and pull out its loops.

    Waffle fabric also perfectly absorbs moisture and is hypoallergenic, while it has good breathability (that is, it allows air to pass well to the body) and dries quickly. Waffle fabric is also wear-resistant, durable and can be washed at high temperatures. It is also lightweight and does not take up much space in your bag. In addition, a waffle fabric pareo is cheaper than other options.

    Linen and bamboo

    Bath towel dresses are also made from linen fabric. It is considered the most durable and wear-resistant among natural fabrics, it also has excellent breathability (allows the body to breathe) and is very durable, while not requiring special care. Moisture evaporates from it faster than from other types of fabrics, so clothes made of linen are very comfortable to wear in the heat - you don’t have to worry about overheating, and a linen dress-towel is very suitable for a bath.

    It is generally accepted that linen has natural antiseptic properties.

    The disadvantage of linen clothing is that it wrinkles very much. However, this can be considered as evidence of the naturalness of the fabric from which it is sewn, and even during a stay in the bathhouse this drawback does not have much significance.

    Fabric made from bamboo fiber is similar to linen in some of its properties. It has excellent breathability, wear resistance, strength, and a natural antimicrobial effect. Fabric made from bamboo fiber is considered artificial, but it is made from natural raw materials. Does not wrinkle and is pleasant to the touch.

    With ears

    Making a model for a baby with ears does not have significant differences in sewing technology. The difference is that the pattern is not rounded, but has corners at the top in the form of ears.

    The pattern of 1 half of the hat is a rectangle, the width of which is equal to the half-circumference of the head minus 1.5-2 cm for the tightness of the fit. The length of the rectangle is determined by the height of the header. To do this, you need to measure the distance from the line between the eyebrows to the back of the head and make an increase for the ears and lapel.

    Doctors' opinion

    Staying in a sauna in the nude has a medical basis. Exposure to high temperatures on the body provokes intense sweating. Sweat not only removes excess fluids, but also protects the skin from excessive overheating (drops of sweat cool the body). If you have clothes on your body, sweat is instantly absorbed and does not cool the skin. Because of this, the body may overheat. In young sauna visitors with strong blood vessels, it can pass without consequences, but people with excess body weight and hypertension are at risk.

    The Germans follow the recommendation to go naked to saunas (even public ones). Moreover, the first point of the rules that guests of a German sauna will see is: “Von der Kleidung verboten” (“No clothing allowed”). The democratic nature of the Germans is not entirely appropriate in a more conservative Russia. If you plan to go to the sauna with us, you should wear a more covered outfit than a hat and flip-flops.

    What does a real Budenovka look like?

    The budenovka pattern is very simple. Initially, the hat was sewn in the form of a helmet made of cloth with a cotton lining. The cap consisted of 6 spherical triangles; a metal plate of about 2 cm was sewn into the top. An oval-shaped visor and a backplate with long edges were sewn to the cap so that they could be fastened under the chin. A mandatory element of any budenovka was a cloth star. Its color depended on the type of troops. In the winter version of the hat, the size of the star was 10.5 cm, in the lighter version - 8.8 cm. The star was the location for attaching the badge - the cockade.

    As you can see in the photo, the winter budenovka was made of felt and had a quilted insulated inner layer. With minor changes, the budenovka served in the Red Army wars until the introduction of new uniforms with shoulder straps. The last photo of a fighter in Budenovka dates back to 1943.

    Public bath kit

    Shared saunas usually have swimming pools or plunge pools. In addition to a bathhouse dress, you will also need a swimsuit made from natural fabric such as cotton or linen.

    Another essential item there will be a bathrobe, it is advisable to purchase one with long pile, it will be pleasant to the body and quickly absorb moisture.

    It is important to know! When wet, such robes become quite heavy and require a long time to dry.

    If this turns out to be a problem for you, then an option made from waffle or bamboo fabric is quite suitable, although the cost of the product of the second option will be many times higher.

    What to look for when choosing

    The choice of a bath cap does not depend on which bath you like best.

    Try to be guided by the following criteria:

    • comfort of wearing;
    • health safety;
    • ease of maintenance and operation - washing, drying;
    • the beauty of the headdress;
    • head protection from heat stroke.

    Let's look at the last point in more detail.

    In the photo - options for bath caps

    Knitting

    The hat is knitted using stockinette stitch; the increases form six wedges.
    ADDI circular knitting needles No. 3.5 (like these). Yarn thickness 8/2 (400 m per 100 grams), color Flame. Yarn consumption - 70 grams. You can knit in the round, you can knit flat, and then sew a hat. I knitted the first 30 rows not in the round, and when the width of the hat became large enough, I switched to circular knitting. The whole hat was knitted in 2.5 hours.

    Having read advice on Osinka that shrinkage after felting can be 35-50%, I started knitting a large hat. (In the photo, the finished hat lies on an inch grid)

    Knitting instructions:

    We cast on 18 loops. We evenly add 6 loops in every second row until there are 120 loops on the knitting needles (20 loops in each wedge) Then we make increases in every fourth row until there are 156 loops on the knitting needles (26 loops in each wedge) Then we knit without increases of 6 cm. For the brim of the hat, again evenly add 6 loops in every second row until you get 198 loops (33 loops in each wedge). Close the loops, sew up the crown and hide the ends of the threads.

    Primary requirements

    Before purchasing a product, you need to know exactly what requirements apply to it. The first factor is safety to stay healthy.

    The best option would be a product based on natural materials.

    Important! It is not recommended to use a cap made of rubber. They are prohibited from wearing when visiting the bath and health complex.

    When the rubber heats up, it can shrink, which can compress the blood vessels of the head. This negatively affects the blood circulation of the brain vessels. The consequences are nausea, soreness and fainting.

    One of the selection criteria is protection. The product eliminates possible burns and overheating. It also prevents the development of fungus and bacteria on the scalp. Thus, seborrhea can be excluded. Based on these parameters, the material should not serve as a source of the “greenhouse effect”, but maintain a comfortable temperature.

    The requirement for the product is practicality. The hat should not shrink; on the contrary, it should be washable and quickly become dry. When worn, it should be comfortable and match the size of your head. Positive emotions from hygiene procedures increase when the product has an attractive appearance.
